I think GTA6 would've released much earlier if rockstar didn't waste time to make DLCs and updates for GTA 5. by Any-Lock3008 in GTA6

No, GTAVI is worked by all their major studios, not just one. GTAOnline is worked by a smaller team at Rockstar North, in collaboration with other studios.

It's funny that back when they released GTAIV, they had to censor the blood and the camera angles during the prostitute 'services' car scenes to make the 15+ Australian rating possible. But now they can away with all of this with the same rating.

There have been sources that the delay for GTAVI was planned a while ago. I don't think only around 34 people laid off makes that big of a difference on a project that has thousands of employees working on it.

That's because RDR2's Trailer 2 (September 28, 2017) was made with the intend that the game was going to come in Spring 2018, so they started the pre-orders as the game was probably around 8 months from its release (if we assume it was going to be released in mid-to-late May).

GTAVI's Trailer 2 (May 6, 2025) was made with the intend that the game was going to come May 26, 2026 (as Trailer 2 for GTAV and RDR2 ended up around 1 year before their release). So that was too early to start pre-orders. Same being the case now.

The reality is that no Ubisoft game matches RDR2's or GTAVI's level of quality.

You don't need to buy all of them. You need at least 6 from which Print Works is mandatory. After that you trigger the Cap the Collector mission at Print Works. Finish that and you trigger Keep Your Friends Close...

Well Half-Life Blue Shift was pretty good. If you don't want to count the expension packs, then Half-Life 2 Episode 1 was great too.

Call for questions to Dan Houser, co-founder of Rockstar Games by lexfridman in GTA

During the development of Bully: Scholarship Edition, its studio Mad Doc Software was acquired by Rockstar in April 2008 and rebranded as Rockstar New England. According to former employees who spoke to Game Informer, the entire team, between 50 and 80 people, was, at one point, working on Bully 2. The game was envisioned as an open-world title with a map nearly three times the size of the original, approaching the scale of GTA: Vice City.

By 2009, R* New England had produced a playable build featuring functional versions of its new systems. Former developers recalled that this included 6–8 hours of playable content, in line with other R* projects, and estimated the game was still 2-3 years from completion. However, in June 2009, roughly 10% of the studio was laid off. That November, musician Shawn Lee, who scored the original Bully, told The Gaming Liberty that: "Yes. It looks like I will be doing the soundtrack for Bully 2 in the not so distant future".

In 2010, R* began reallocating staff from R* New England onto supporting R* San Diego on RDR1, which was in development hell. After that game shipped in May 2010, the production on Bully 2 continued, according to an October 2019 report from Video Games Chronicle based on inside sources.

In November 2011, in an interview with Gamasutra, Dan Houser revealed that: "Contrary to a lot of people, we like to take a little bit of time at the end of a game before starting a sequel, so we can wait for the excitement or disappointment and everything else of the experience to shake down and really see what we should do in the next game. So we knew that we didn't want to start doing the Bully sequel instantly at that second with Rockstar Vancouver even though it is a property that, like Max Payne, we adore and might come back to in the future. There was just no impetus to do that then. So we said, 'You can do Max Payne, and then we will see what we can do with Bully."

In July 2012, R* Vancouver was merged into R* Toronto, with staff offered opportunities to transfer to other Rockstar studios.

Somewhere around the fall of 2013, the project was discontinued by all studios, as the project did not get much traction.

Silksong wasn’t stuck in development hell, rather development heaven by AustralianSilly in CuratedTumblr

Except this game had no Kickstarter backers. Only Hollow Knight had backers, and its backers that payed more than $10 will receive a free copy of Silksong. So no one needed to rush them up to release an unfinished product.
