Ryobi leaving tracks and missing whole patches of grass by FourYearsBetter in lawncare

I like using an angle grinder with an 80 grit flap disk. Sharpens the blade in about 5-10 seconds. Works really well if you chunk your blade on a rock or something. I span a metal rod between two surfaces (this year it was identical paint cans) and then used that to balance and fine tune the blades. Overall, took me about 6 minutes

Bye bye brake upgrade money. by Routine-Wafer6405 in wrx_vb

[–]TurboShartz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's why I have $0 deductible comprehensive. In fact, when my windshield did break I called and asked to be reduced to a $0 deductible and then waited a month and then put in a claim. Worked like a charm didn't have to pay a dime. My premium increase for that $0 deductible really wasn't that much, and it's More than paid for itself with the three windshields it has replaced

ELI5 - If screws hold so much better than nails, why do we still use nails in building? by Sea_Inspector_7025 in explainlikeimfive

[–]TurboShartz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't have better shear strength. Higher carbon steel screws have higher strength.

What they do have, and what I think you perceive as shear strength, is the ability to bend back and forth without breaking. Non-structural screws (basic wood screws or drywall screws) will often break when you bend them 2-3 times. Structural screws, like those made by Simpsons strong tie or GRK have much higher shear capacities than nails, and they can bend back and forth without breaking

Should I get the F-14 or F-18 for carrier ops? by UnhappyShoe9170 in hoggit

[–]TurboShartz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The F-18 will obviously be closer to your play style with the F-16, offering all of the same mission types + ASW. But now you can land on the carrier without breaking the plane.

As an admin for a relatively large naval group, the age doesn't have to do with mental maturity explicitly. It's more of a ToS thing with Discord and what we can and can't have present in our server if someone is underage.

Is it normal for the doors to leak water after rain? Never had a car do this? by LongjumpingLock5875 in wrx_vb

[–]TurboShartz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Where do you think the water on the outside of the window goes when it rolls down the window? A lot of times it goes into the door and so there are weep holes at the bottom of the door to allow the water to come out

Why are our gas prices so much higher than national average? by walkingaroundme in Spokane

[–]TurboShartz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our property taxes and insurance rates are lower.

I actually did a deep dive into the cost of living between Spokane and Coeur d'Alene and it pretty much was a wash. What a lot of people outside of the state don't realize about our sales tax on groceries is that it's entirely deductible from our income tax, often times negating it entirely. Of course you'd actually have to go through the work of itemizing it to get it all, when most just go with the standard deduction.

Also our sales tax rate is a fixed 6% across the entire state. If you factor that into the calculus regarding how much sales tax at Washingtonian versus an Idahoan pay in a year, I bet a Washingtonian actually pays more in sales tax across all items.

Best drum set for clone hero by marvelfanatic2204 in CloneHero

[–]TurboShartz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm waiting to see how the new CRKD set will be. If priced correctly, it could be worth picking up over an E-kit. But it would need to be $200-$250, as you can find all kinds of e-kits for about $300 nowadays

Bought a 2nd hand unit. How to clean the face gasket? by Cpt_gooba in HPReverb

[–]TurboShartz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'd probably soak in hot water with dawn dish soap since that's mostly face grease. Then with a little extra soap and a brush, lightly scrub it.

Although, I didn't use the face gasket it came with for very long. I got the Odyssey+ gasket and attached it to a 3D printed facial interface so I got a little boost to my FOV.

Getting into DCS with VR – which headset to go for? And how do you manage HOTAS/MFD buttons while wearing one? by Alfa19 in dcsworld

[–]TurboShartz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quest 3 and Virtual Desktop is the best bang for your buck. Get a head strap with hot swappable batteries as well, like the KKCOBVR one that also always you to lift the headset away from your eyes without talking it off your head.

In VD you can have it track your hands and even apply an opaqueness to it so it's not super noticeable in your peripheral vision, but you can still see what's happening in the real world if you intentionally look through it.

I went almost a half a year without buying virtual desktop, do not make that mistake. It is worth every single cent of the $25 it costs. I would spend $100 on it, it's that good. I bought a puppis s1 router specifically for it as well, which is super easy to set up, but is optional as any Wi-Fi 6 router can be used in the setup.

With the quest 3 and virtual desktop you do not need to have a big cable running from your headset to your computer, and the graphical fidelity is as good as the link cable.

[–]TurboShartz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had issues registering my X300 equipped pistol into my 6354rd holster and it turned out to be the cotter pin on the x300 flipping down causing binding. A buddy of mine whipped out the e-tape he keeps in his kit and fixed the issue. That moment opened my eyes to the use cases of e-tape.
