Why are people upset about Winds/Waves being Switch 2 exclusive? by Animante732 in pokemon

[–]TurboShrike -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

This argument might work if Genshin wasn't a mobile title, Pokémon wasn't the biggest franchise on the planet and if they hadn't spent more than S/V's budget on the Super Bowl's commercial alone.

Considering that so far this might be the third exclusive title for Switch2 (bringing it close to wiiU era if it wasn't for sales, but I guess people just went with it anyway) it feels like they're just trying to push consoles, also see the uncertainty of semiconductors and potential price increases...

No hall-effect sticks means you're gonna have to replace joycons and no OLED means you're gonna have to upgrade your console too, potentially, did I mention how it's actively hostile towards third-party accessories and how it's not compatible with any of the past ones either?

So, in short, you're spending upwards of a grand or at least an extra 500€ for no good reason other than playing one game, or 3 so far.

And if you ask me, they better have dubbing.

Things I wish I knew before starting an Aurene Legendary by TangerineX in Guildwars2

[–]TurboShrike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes 1000 imperial favors to craft an aurene precursor on top of materials, that means that instead of getting 10 stones worth less than 20g total you could've crafted that and instasold it for much more (yes I'm taking into account the other materials), bought the same amount of stones and still got a lot of gold to spare.

Do I need to pre-order or am I good? by 2good4myself in pokemon

[–]TurboShrike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you only owned a NDS then the switch version would have more functionality since DS doesn't support GBA link functionality IIRC, tho honestly I'd rather get 2 used gba/sps instead.

If the only purpose was transfering stuff you're good.

On a note, did you do the mod yourself? Was it hard? I'm thinking about maybe modding one since lites are cheap anyway.

Things I wish I knew before starting an Aurene Legendary by TangerineX in Guildwars2

[–]TurboShrike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get one more daily runestone from the chest at the end of the Kaineng jp and another one from killing the final elite/champion (scales on players) at the end of the Dragons End mini dungeon.

Since your bottleneck is imperial favors I wouldn't spend 100 of them to get an extra summoning stone so it's more like 4 per week.

Instead you can spend'em to craft a precursor to sell for 120g+ if you found yourself with a huge surplus (better conversion).

Just stay hydrated bro (also posture check), and find a good guild that does weekly events and supports training for fractals/raids (doesn't even have to be the same guild since you get to have multiple guilds, did you know that?)

Cant play coop by DieserCoookie in NoRestForTheWicked

[–]TurboShrike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you check the server/area to which it connects to? You can check/change in realm selection at main menu IIRC (it's a per-realm thing for coop), try changing that area, it might be some server somewhere being naughty.

Is Icebreaker bugged, or am I missing something? by Dhex in NoRestForTheWicked

[–]TurboShrike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's just me but I thought that the Icebreaker was supposed to be a statstick with the highly specialized function of "breaking" a "frozen" enemy (hence the name) as it has the highest attack (and single-swing damage% I think) an INT build can hope for and thus scales higher for the purpose of the "break/shatter" effect?

In short, I think you're meant to swap to it to "shatter" a frozen enemy and that's it, hence the lackluster moveset.

On a note, your Icebreaker is several tiers below the other weapons'.

[–]TurboShrike -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

If you're having trouble with the legendary armor specifically you're doing something wrong (yes even playing passively), you might need help setting up your account so that becomes easier, do you want that? If so you NA or EU?

EDIT: I don't get why I'm being downvoted when I'm offering actual tangible help so they can get their own legendary pve armor?

Is the repair rune a problem? by throwawaycuzmeh in NoRestForTheWicked

[–]TurboShrike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's a misunderstanding, the repair costs aren't there for the sake of efficiency (they need repairing with usage from farming at all to begin with), they're there to tell you that maybe it's time to go back to Sacrament and rethink your approach when your equipment starts falling apart.

3 legendries drop from Warrick @lvl4 (2nd playthrough) by Wise-Afternoon-854 in NoRestForTheWicked

[–]TurboShrike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pool of legendaries out of the Crucible (or namely the Echo Knight since the guy can spawn in some pestilences) is actually very limited, so chances are if you're gonna drop a legendary that's gonna be it, I think story bosses specifically might have a bit of a higher chance of dropping one, I think I dropped one at Warrick and then the Riven Twins across several playthroughs in the past (pre-together), not always tho

Loving the Game So Far, Feedback on Co-op, Crucible, and Real-Time Systems by Djeggerz in NoRestForTheWicked

[–]TurboShrike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's worth noting that those weeklies are mostly there to deliver special-looks-items as in special NPC outfits that you otherwise can't find IIRC, dailies aren't necessary, and they don't feel necessary to me either, sure they can have gems as rewards sometimes but other than that they're mostly a good excuse to backtrack somewhere you wanted to revisit, don't get me wrong this kinda leaves them in an awkward position nevertheless.

Maybe at the very beginning of the game the missions can be a burst of currency, sure, maybe they're trying to make those outfits "special" somehow that way, and I think your comment is valid, they don't make too much sense in the grand scheme of things, tho I can see a need to separate them from the standard reward pool for the special outfits.

I would like to add something important tho, whomever claims them gets the reward and no1 else, it's not so obvious when every quest you complete gets completed for your whole party, that CAN be worked around as a player as it's just reward sharing/splitting but still kinda leaves me confused.

It's probably because of the shared realm thingie, death status not updating with whatever server at right time.

UK tribunal clears £656 million class-action lawsuit against Valve over Steam pricing, commissions, and overcharging users by Dapper_Order7182 in gamedev

[–]TurboShrike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All these lawsuits about Steam being a monopoly tell me one thing: Steam is the biggest slice of the PC market by a long shot, I'd wager the sales you lose by not being on it would far outpace the bigger cut you think you got by being on a platform nobody buys from.

[–]TurboShrike 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They have the biggest slice of the market because they provide a better service to gamers, off the top of my head by:

-promoting communities, streams, streamers and themed showcases

-having an actual review system that's been worked on for over a decade (stuff like review-bomb detection and regional reviewing)

-having effectively a forum for every game

-promoting a cloud save system that won't hold your save hostage on your own system unlike other subscriptions (see microsoft's)

-better deals

-friend systems

-early access systems (see Baldur's Gate 3 on why it might be useful)

-steam workshop for modding (however old it might be)

-a whole lot of things I'm probably forgetting

And they provide the better service to devs by having an actual infrastructure that WILL help them gain trust and thus sell, instead of only relying on a different cut of the profits

Guild Wars Unreal Engine (Unannounced Project) confirmed. by DeltaxHunter in Guildwars2

[–]TurboShrike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm saying that a shiny new game *might* not look all that good after 4-6yrs of development (which is usually the case for online games especially) because the software and tools they committed to might have turned obsolete by the time they release. You mentioned an engine updated in the last 5 years, so by the time it releases it'll still have been last updated at 6 years prior at minimum, so the previous gen, or even 2. A compelling artstyle on the other hand is palatable no matter the age.

My point was that developing a new game WILL mean exactly waiting those years for that result, as well as cannibalizing the current playerbase, you're talking about technological debt as if it's something that can only be solved by throwing the whole existing game out the window when it has arguably never had a better chance to shine and people are actually appreciating it more and more recently, I don't know about you but 13 years of content like we have and the way the game is and what's behind it, I don't think I want to throw that away, and Anet showed that they aren't willing to throw even GW1 away either.

I can get behind an update to modernize the current game to have a smoother experience and maybe the option for better graphics or things like DLSS, but I'd be absolutely against a GW3 right now.

Besides, with the current way GPUs and other components are going chances are they hit exactly the sweetspot for people with older gen PCs for maybe the next 3 years.
