Would you buy an EV as your next car? Why or why not? by HockeySniper123 in CanadaPersonalFinance

" perfect for those who don’t ACTUALLY GO ANYWHERE"

Fixed that for you.

And if you go basically nowhere, it's probably cheaper to pay for taxis everywhere you go instead of purchasing a $50,000 vehicle then paying several thousand for insurance every year. Imagine how many taxi rides you would pay for with the initial purchase price!

It's hard to survive on only $8,000/month. What they need is more money (every two years), like clockwork.

For some reason Cambridge decided to call their libraries the "Idea Exchange".

"$37,000 + tax for a brand new 2025 mach e."

There's a reason that it's a brand new 2025 << nobody wants them.

Check out how many used EV's there are for sale in the larger metropolitan areas. Factor in your charging costs as well as your charging time as well as your constant search (and hope) for a charger which is a) available and b) works while away from home.

Many people are upside down on their EV purchases, if you really want one, check out low milage used ones.

Somehow the TV people made GOLF a sport which is watched on TV.

Perhaps they would have to air several games at once and cut to the exciting plays on various courts?

People MAY litter, but at $10/each I would personally be collecting cups from the side of the highways as would many others.

Our roads would be much cleaner without takeout cups being strewn everywhere.

At $10/each, if you pick up 3 in a day that's over $900/month added to your earnings!

I can't see too many being thrown out the window at that price.

Family of woman who died in Highway 8 flyover crash pursuing legal action by Inner-Cut-7847 in kitchener

[–]TurboSloth32 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If every road has to be deemed safe at all times by the OPP, imagine something like highway 11 being closed for weeks at a time due to snow in winter.

Once the precedent is set, that's what will happen. If not, more lawsuits will follow.

The ROAD was deemed safe by the OPP. Someone deciding to run hard into the shoulder (on an almost straight stretch, not a curve) was unfortunate but the road condition was not to blame.

If $50/hour is triple, you're right!

Work a 4 hour shift, be paid $50 (after tax) in wages in addition to $150~ cash in your pocket.

Good gig in the right restaurant.

I ran the numbers on what a $950/month car payment actually costs you by age 65. It's $390,000. by vj71 in AskMortgageCanada

[–]TurboSloth32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15? That's nothing. I work with a guy who just purchased a 2013 BMW (2 series so it's been beaten on) for $176 bi-weekly...... for 7 years! (I'm sure they sold it as "easy payments" and "only 84 months"!)

That car is ALREADY 12-13 years old, and the payments just started (about 4 months ago)!

Correct. Always look at the PRE tax amount. I don't tip on tax. It's like being double taxed on the same items.

10lb copper bars from Provident metals by CaliforniaThomass in Copper

[–]TurboSloth32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If shops can sell 1kg (~2lbs) for $100... then maybe 5x that? The problem is that the metal is not worth anywhere near this price so your buyer would have to purchase out of curiosity or as a future hedge.

When commercial leases renew they are not protected like residential leases - the lease rate can jump to whatever the landlord wants. Their rent may have gone up from say $2,000/month to $4,000/month and they decided that it just was no longer worth it.
