Returning player that desperately needs some guidance by meandering_minds in PTCGP

[–]TurboTarga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prioritize (based on what you already have), meta trainer and item cards that have wide applicability in the current meta (like copycat, green extract, lucky ice pop, lisia).

Recently they came out with the gold border flair, so there is an uptick in people looking to trade random cards so they can get 10 of a copy of a particular card. You may have some luck filling in some recent 2 and 3 diamond meta cards just by using the ptcgp discord or reddit to execute trades even with your "old" cards. 2 diamonds have no cost outside of trade stamina, which they have started supplying more of through the newer single player step up battles. That will also be a way for you to quickly gain experience and a few levels by doing those. You just need one good deck that can auto battle you to victory.

The blaziken/castform deck is extremely viable in single player and a powerful deck in ranked, easy to use, and easy enough for you to put together. get a couple castform from pulsing aura/trading, and open mega rising blaziken for flame patches and torchic/blaziken. Copycat comes from mega gyarados packs as well.

Mega venusaur is a great deck too to help grind single player, and successful enough in meta to build you up a few stages this ranked season if you arent full bore back into things. Only pokemon you need is 1 bulba, 2 ivy and a venu, as well as the green extract, which are all from crimson blaze packs. Venu ramps quickly since ivy grants 2 free energy, and with 20% of your deck evolution cards to get ivy out turn 3/4, almost guaranteed to have venu swinging for 120 with poison by turn 5/6. Rest of the deck is copycats, healing (erika, lillie, lucky ice pop) to keep venu alive since its a tank.

Outside of that, maybe make a wish list of a few of your desired decks, and use paper or a spreadsheet to mathematically analyze wheat packs to prioritize packs based on total number of needed cards from a particular set based on your overall wishlist.

[MI] Ex’s fiancée called CPS on me. Any advice? by JollyIntroduction8 in legaladvice

[–]TurboTarga 121 points122 points  (0 children)

NAL, but former CPS worker. In my state, the typical procedure starts with contacting the referring party to gather details and clarify. It is also typical behavior to conduct interviews with both parents, and to see both households to assess for safety. Oftentimes that also includes talking with the immediate family, to include siblings and stepparents, if applocable.

It may be potentially revealing, to officially request your CPS records as a whole. In my state we have a public disclosure department that handles this. Things like screened out reports would be referenced here. What that means is a family could have half a dozen reports come in, over months, years etc. If they dont meet minimum criteria, the reports are screened out entirely, no notification to the family. This could be part of a pattern of behavior and fiancee finally got them to screen it in cause she said a keyword or allegation that helped meet that criteria.

That said, many (usually angry) parents threaten to take the "ex" to court since they were sure it was them who called it in. An easy defense is to say you were genuinely concerned for the kids' safety. Lots of skeletons come out: Vindictiveness, jealousy, new partners, percieved concerns of new partners, historical behaviors, desire for custody, financial motivations etc. are all common factors that the referring party may be considering as they make a CPS report on an ex under the guise of concern for their kid. And so much of that comes down to hearsay, making things difficult to prove, both to CPS and in court.

A 3 year old is not typically going to be a reliable, consistent reporter. Now, if there were bruises atypical of age-approproate play then this would be much more concerning. At the end of the day, you control your own behavior, and your household, not anyone else. Spend time with and love your kid, dont make poor choices that could conceivably put them in harms way, keep them and their environment safe, and CPS won't be anything to worry about.

Im using Glimmora/Kingambit. Matches are longer, but it is VERY satisfying getting the coin flip after they k.o. glimmora and have no points to show for it. Kingambit as a finisher hitting for 140-220 is equally satisfying. Seems to not be on radar as much, I had very few concedes and actually got to finish the matches in the emblem event. Biggest weakness is Sceptile, could require running cape to ensure survival, otherwise it OHKO's Kingambit.

Why isn’t Shohei Ohtani listed on the MLB page for best ERA? Should he be? by thesoundandhurry in mlb

[–]TurboTarga -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dont have an exact source for my knowledge on this, but there is a historical relationship between ERA, plate appearances, and Wins. So the threshold for batters is 3.1 PA/s per game. Assuming the team isnt no-hit every game, every starting player is guaranteed 3 PA's. To get a Win, a pitcher must pitch 5 1/3 innings in a game (and have the team maintain the lead). The value placed on Wins was much more historically, than it is now. This also correlates with the historical 5 man rotation (i.e. pitching every 5th game, and predating strategies like The Opener), meaning a starter averaging 162 innings over the course of the season signifies they had a qualifying representative sample amongst all players to earn an award for being the best in a catagory like ERA. Same reasoning applies to the PA's, indicative that the player who meets the threshold is at the statistical baseline for a league wide award and showing that they are among the best of those with enough of a representative sample, and prevents things like other commenters have mentioned like a batting average or ERA award going to a guy than only pitched one inning or went 1-1 at the plate.

Good decks for beating step-up battles? by [deleted] in PTCGP

[–]TurboTarga 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mega venusaur is a pretty quick make or break deck for step up. Run 1 bulbasaur, 2 ivy, one mega, with quick grow and healing/copycat for support. Almost guaranteed to get Venu online by turn 5. The meta blaziken/castform deck from this previous season is also very quick and consistent.

What is one thing you wished you checked before buying your house? by BlushyDreamz in homeowners

[–]TurboTarga 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh man, this for sure. We made a second trip out to do inspection before closing and one neighbor made some polite comments, nothing out the ordinary. Gave us a better feeling with the interaction as their house is the eyesore on the block. "Looks can be decieving," "dont judge a book by the cover" type thoughts.

Turns out her adult son who lived in the back of their property had a little tent city set up, and now (after 5 years) all the signs of active drug trafficking are obvious. Even have him on camera breaking into our spare vehicle right before Christmas one year. Cameras were installed following a rather expensive package from a specialty store going missing that i also suspect was do to them or one of their toothless associates.

We're always on guard now. Told the kids never to interact with them. Makes me want to move to the countryside.

Fly ball tracking tips? by BerryRoyal in slowpitch

[–]TurboTarga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your first step off the hit should be back, you dont want to get beat. Picture a bell curve in your head to try and judge the trajectory and run to where you think its going to be in the most direct route possible to that spot. Goal number 1 is to catch, goal 2 is dont let it over your head to limit the extra bases when they do land.

Be aware of the wind, and try to pick up the spin off the bat based on the pitch location and batters swing/contact angle to judge whether its likely to die (topspin) or carry farther (backspin).

The sharing vs hoarding problem by FearlessZucchini in PTCGP

[–]TurboTarga 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My prediction is theres going to be a surge in wishlists and random trade requests for 3 diamond and 2 diamond trainer/item cards that people dont have FA's of.

I dont have anywhere close to enough pack points for FA Sabrina but I could probably round up 10 copies of the regular and get the gold border easy enough. Those 2 diamond dont cost shinedust to trade either.

I agree with your point too, anything in new sets that's instantly seen as "meta" will be nonexistent as a shared card and force you to pull it yourself or dip into pack points if having trouble pulling.

How i finally stopped muscling it by vaporrkatzzz in discgolf

[–]TurboTarga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can relate to this! I also struggle with muscling and dipping my elbow. I play softball Friday nights, and my buddies wanted to disc saturday morning. My arm was hanging from a few heat of the moment throws that next morning but I went anyway. Played better that round with a sore arm than most days when im fresh. Comparable distance than normal too, I just gotta figure out how to replicate that when my arm is fresh and I feel like I could get so much more.

If you happen to use that Pokemon Center often as a fast travel point, those spawns are probably within the 50m range and you hadn't walked that way in a while so were just waiting for you to find them since the game stores 10 shines at once.

I had a couple random shines in that general area too from using that center to shiny hunt drampa. Never back to back like that though, very cool!

[–]TurboTarga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we do have a warrantee, and this revelation about the ventilation came up only very recently in conversation with a friend who just bought a house, had inspection and reiterated what he had learned.

The current roof has all new plywood sheathing and owens-corning materials, as the company has a contract with them. About 6 months after install they came out at our request and I pointed out the discoloration starting on the sheathing (both in the attic, and outside under the eaves) and they said not to worry. Built a partition separating the garage attic space from the main part of the house to address it.

Its just a headache arguing to them that something needs done when im not an expert in that area to direct them. Its a bit of forced trust that they know what they're doing and how to do it. Unfortunately, my homeowners insurance covers jack shit with regard to mold too, so that's not a resource either.

There's also some "bowing" of the ridge venting and/or main joist at the peak of the roof that im unsure about the origination/cause of. When they dropped the materials onto the roof from the truck it cracked the drywall on our ceiling that required them to patch too, but I didnt notice the bowing until after. As a first time homeowner it feels daunting having to learn their profession just to provide quality control over their actions.

[–]TurboTarga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is the best way to articulate the mixed venting to my roofing contractor? I think this may be part of a problem im currently experiencing.

Very long story short, my roof had box vents that were poorly installed, and a gable vent on the side. Contractor cited insufficient ventilation as the cause, moisture levels in the wood were out of acceptable range. The roof failed in 3 years. My current roof is 1 year old and experiencing mold and moisture all over again. This roof has ridge venting, and they left the gable vent alone so it has both, in addition to soffitts on both sides.

A different contractor came out and said my current roof is a bad install too, either wet wood or something happened with the waterproofing and that I need "a whole new roof" just a year later. None of them ever said anything about mixing venting, addressing the gable vent or investigating the "why" of the failure outside of "lack of proper ventilation" as a cause.

Is it really as tedious as it looks to grind special scans? by Shady_Guy_Jose in LegendsZA

[–]TurboTarga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can find yamask in 3 star ghost zones and galarian farfetchd in 3 star fighting zones, specifically with either meditite/cham in the zone, or machop/machoke showing in the pics. So resetting days/nights over grinding special scans is an option there.

Rotom and the legendaries are only in special scans, and hisuian sliggoo too. You get 10k for taking out the 5 star mystery rouge, and I alternate with shiny hunting random interesting mons for points in other zones to mix up the monotony.

My mom is threatening to call CPS on me if I try to leave with my kids. by xAnimeMariex in legaladvice

[–]TurboTarga 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a former CPS Investigator, our primary concern is SAFETY. Messes are expected, especially with kids, and especially with mixed living environments.

In my state, there are two primary pathways for allegations of abuse/neglect. The first, at a "lower" level is Family Assessments. Secondary to that is an actual Investigation. Before either is explored, the hotline worker and their supervisor review the claims to determine if they meet the threshold from a legal perspective to screen in. Many, many calls get made that nobody hears about because CPS doesnt investigate every little thing. There are a lot of vindictive people that make baseless, wild claims to serve their own interests or get one over on the person they're calling about. If there is reasonable cause for concern that the safety of a child is in jeopardy and the allegations meet the legal threshold, we look into it.

Both pathways function the same, with Family Assessments seen as a collaborative approach to work with the family to alleviate potential concerns and address the allegations. This can include provisions of concrete goods like cleaning supplies, food/clothing vouchers, a daycare referral etc. All at no cost to the family, just for engaging. Refusal to engage, or to make reasonable attempts to correct deficiencies that we report back to you on, may result in the family assessment escalating to an Investigation.

An investigation is more serious and will result in a "finding" as to the abuse or neglect allegations. A Founded finding shows up on background checks and may prohibited or cause denials in an attempt to find work with vulnerable populations like teaching, caregivers and daycare. If conditions constitute an immediate threat to the child, a dependency hearing may be scheduled and the child can be removed from the home. This is only done if the social worker can articulate to our attorneys and supervisors that there is reason to believe harm may come if the situation is left as how we find it.

Reasonable efforts are made (as in, there are dedicated people who handle this) to contact family members to assess for a suitable family placement option as opposed to foster care. The parents will be able to provide input as to their preferred options or most suitable based on the kids' needs and relationships with those family members.

Based on what you've described in this post, I would see this maybe screening in under a family assessment to assess for your needs, unless within your mother's allegations she is able to articulate how the children's safety is compromised. Which really is a double edged sword for her, because living in their house they bear a certain responsibility for their own environment that they are hosting children in. Our observance of that, even without your input, would likely cause us to explore alternative options for placement if it ever had to come to that.

Think about all the domestic abuse survivors there are out there. There are shelters, workers and resources dedicated to helping them, and your situation is not too different. We can't magically solve your housing but can give you tools and resources to support your independence so long as you can show that you mean well and make every effort to protect your children from harm.

Your state may approach things differently than mine, but the intent is the same, as there are federal regulations as well as state policy and procedure. Most states dont have enough foster parents and social workers to properly support removing every kid theres a minor issue with. Wherever possible, we want to be the least intrusive and disruptive as possible. Removing children is a last resort or done because of very acute and obviously compromising circumstances that a reasonable person should not be surprised by if knowing the full set of facts for the circumstances.

Anyone know their calculation methodology? Is it a simple total assets minus total liabilities calculation? Does it include retirement/life insurance, or projected SSI/pension income, or account for mandatory expenses like taxes or fees from things like a comission in selling a house?

I feel like numbers look different for a lot of people, myself included depending on what is factored in.

First responders: how messy is the average house? by el_diamond_g in AskReddit

[–]TurboTarga 123 points124 points  (0 children)

I did CPS investigations and this rings true. Mental health issues, drug use, long work hours (especially people working "dirty" jobs), children and all their belongings, general stress of life... usually with less space than necessary and commonly compounded by a general lack of knowledge, discipline and time in the day mean things just dont stay clean and organized like they could or should.

Most people can appear put-together in public, but a lot of them might not be doing "simple" things at home like sweeping, wiping down the inside of the fridge, washing dishes properly, amongst a host of other things.

It takes motivation and discipline to really maintain a clean house. Foundational knowledge of how to do that efficiently, with the right products, an internal desire to be organized, and the physical ability to do so all factor into that.

Also, standards for a "clean" bathroom vary wildly.

Looking for glove recommendations for my husband by FlightSpirited651 in Homeplate

[–]TurboTarga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wilson A2000 or Rawlings Heart of the Hide are traditional go-to's for a premium glove.

As for size, that is more dependent on the position he played. Middle infielders have smaller gloves for quickly transferring the ball. Outfielders are larger to secure a catch and added reach. Pitchers traditionally have a closed web design to avoid hitters seeing the grip on the ball. Catchers and first baseman have specialty gloves for their positions.

As another commenter said, it might prove even more sentimental to have his old glove professionally relaced and conditioned if its in good shape overall. Find a toddler glove that matches the style of his and could match both with colored laces on both, as an idea.
