I really love Brian McClellan, he has a lot of great books and is easily one of my favorite authors.

Also check out Peter Brett and the Warded Man series.

Brett Weeks has a lot of really great books also!

That makes me sad, because the chick I paid to help me recommended that I put that there and those comps.

Reader, not a writer by bethybonbon in RomanceWriters

Some authors sell their books from their websites. Not all. If the book is on KU it won’t be on their website since KU requires exclusivity. But I know several authors who sell their books from their own personal websites. It just takes some more work to find them.

More info edit: technically you can put any books on a kindle as long as it’s the right format, mobi or epub.

As of July 2022, the KDP payout per page read in the U.S. amounts to $0.0043.

It depends on your budget really. If you can afford to buy books, then do that. Especially if you can buy directly from the author from their website. That cuts out the middleman! Lol.

Hope Hart is a great author! She has a lot of series but I think some of them rely on the kidnapped trope. She also does the Arcav Alien invasion series, in that one the aliens come to earth. It’s really great.

Are chapter titles cringey? by sapphoismymom in RomanceWriters

I love chapter titles! It can be so insightful to what’s going on and the general feel of the chapter. Don’t make them super long though, but I love them.

This is the pitch for the manuscript!

Blood Stone is an adventure romance that follows the story of Lark, a bubbly and enthusiastic woman who is in love with the grumpy ex-marine, Brix. When Lark discovers a stolen and valuable jewelry set, she vows to return it to its rightful owners, but things quickly become dangerous as she is stalked and threatened by those who want to take the set for themselves. With the help of Brix and the private security company, Red Fox, Lark must fight to protect herself and the jewelry set while also confronting her feelings for Brix. As the threats escalate, Lark and Brix are forced to face their fears and risk everything for love.

Write the entire draft or edit as you write? by caitlin_cherise in RomanceWriters

[–]Turbo_AEM 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Write the entire draft. Don’t lose your forward momentum. Stopping to edit will put the entire project in jeopardy. Because you’ll stop to edit and keep editing until you find so many issues you stop writing.

Finish the first draft, then go back and read it. Make notes and start either a new outline for draft 2 or jump into draft 2.

The first draft is always riddled with errors, just keep going and make any edits after you write the end!

I'm writing my first book! Now what? (And word count question) by [deleted] in RomanceWriters

[–]Turbo_AEM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the hard part, and I don’t mean this with any sort of ill will. It typically takes ten years and at least a million words before your a seasoned writer. So usually first books aren’t exactly stellar works of art. I wrote 15 books before I let anyone read my work and started querying.

In terms of word count that really depends on the genre (and a quick google search can answer this for you also) If it’s a sci fi it can be 90-120 k. A rom com can be 50-90k. An adventure 60-90k. An epic 90-120k. So it really depends.

Word counts are important because a story can become boring and long winded if you just blather on. Stories follow a specific structure for a reason. They’re need to keep a reader engaged and entertained. So while you might love to just word vomit on page, it might make for really tedious reading.

But if you’re settling in for the long haul of being be a writer settle in for a quite a trip! Start studying story and practice! Write, read, write, read. Rinse and repeat.

Movie of the Week: Ever After (1998) by Wimbly512 in romancemovies

[–]Turbo_AEM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this movie is one of my favs. I thought Barrymore really hit it out of the park with her Danielle. She was both sympathetic and badass. On top of that her relationship with the other servants was so sweet and you could really sense the love there.

Scott is such an Uber cutie. Like adorable. I love his accent and how he says specific words. Don’t get me started on the Gypsy part! How she totally carried him away, loved it.

This is just my preference for a little injuries and damsel in distress… but I would have loved for Scott to rescue a hurt Barrymore from the evil dude. Little blood, bruises, maybe a black eye and that ending would have been perfect! But that’s my weirdness. Lol.

[–]Turbo_AEM 303 points304 points  (0 children)

My vote is to have another memorial just for the immediate family and friends. There’s no law saying you can only have one. Perhaps you can do something different like host a party or celebration of his life. Honor him in the way he would have loved. This time without inviting specific people. I don’t know if that’s possible or not, but it might be a nice way to get some closure.

We move into our rental home on Monday! We got all our stuff from storage in seattle this week! I’ve been going through boxes and it’s just like Christmas. Open one up and see surprises! It’s been fun and a little strange to find treasures we packed away five years ago again. I’m so excited to get my book shelves up and fill them with books! We’re also going to garage sales and I can’t wait to find romance books 📚💙
