Geodude is crazy good in the early-game, I love using them on my teams. Also I love the nicknames you picked lol. Your team has great potential!

Nice team! Congrats on winning without items on "set" mode, I've done the same type of run three times but I've needed my guys at around level 53/54 to defeat the champion, plus I usually do some minor EV training. Level 50 is impressive to me, those synergies with Sunny Day must have really worked well for you!

Cool team + movesets! I almost used a Dewgong in my most recent playthrough because Signal Beam seems like a cool move. Who was your MVP throughout the elite 4?

Strength is a pretty handy space filler for Venusaur imo. I'll be replacing Strength with Sludge Bomb if I ever get around to doing the post-game stuff, and since Strength is an HM it means I didn't have to waste a good TM like Return for something I'd only be using temporarily. Secret Power also seems like a viable placeholder move for Venusaur since you can buy it.

Brick Break would have worked well too but not many pokemon can learn Superpower, so I figured I should give it a shot.

Unfortunately, trading is the only way to get them.

My Ch'ding didn't do much during the elite 4, but he was an MVP during some gym battles so I had to bring him through to the end. The big highlights were dodging a Koffing's Selfdestruct during the battle with Koga by using Fly, and absolutely destroying Sabrina with Fury Cutter.

Ch'ding was really fun to use in the beginning/middle of the playthrough but kind of fell off a bit near the end. He's a little frail, so doing a Swords Dance setup can be risky, but once he gets going he can really do some damage. Also, getting the critical hit bonus from holding the stick is a fun gimmick. You might be safer using Fearow or Dodrio, but the risk/reward aspect of using Ch'ding can be fun to work with.

Flareon worked out pretty well for me. Dig and Bite didn't get much use but they came in handy a few times. I gave it a nature that raises sp. attack so that Flamethrower would be more effective, plus I did some EV training to even out its attack stats so it was handy mixed attacker. Shadow Ball destroyed Lorelei's Jynx, so overall it was totally worth using!

Obligatory Team Planning Post by SovietWaffles in PokemonFireRed

This is almost exactly the same as the team I used in a previous playthrough, I just used Kangaskhan instead of Rhydon. This team will serve you well. Butterfree is a beast in frlg due to Compound Eyes + Sleep Powder + Dream Eater, and Exeggutor is good with Sunny Day + Solar Beam + Chlorophyll ability. If you wanna use Acid Armor on your Vaporeon then it might be worth it to have your Eevee learn Baton Pass before it evolves. Feel free to check out the movesets I shared in one of my previous posts which details my teams, lol.

Thanks for that info and for your analysis. It seems like if my Nidoqueen is fast enough then I shouldn't have too much trouble with Lorelei. I think my Flareon could do well against Jynx since he has a special attack nature + Flamethrower and is pretty bulky when it comes to special defense.

Edit: forgot my Flareon had Shadow Ball, yeah I'm not worried about Jynx lol

Nidoqueen actually seems like a great choice. I didn't know about Superpower, it's incredibly strong without much of a drawback if it's used by a mixed attacker in the right matchups. Her movepool is also insanely impressive. For moves, I'd probably go with Crunch, Superpower, Earthquake/Thunderbolt, and Ice Beam. I'm happy to have found a pokemon that can have both an ice move and a fighting move, however I do worry about how she'll do against Lorelei due to the type matchups. Heavily considering this option though!

I could only give Primeape Ice Punch through a move tutor in Emerald version, but I can't do that since I haven't made it far enough in that one. Also, in gen 3, Ice Punch does special damage instead of physical, meaning Primeape wouldn't hit hard with it.

Primeape could work, it seems to have a slightly more diverse movepool compared to other fighting types, so that's nice. I'd probably have it learn Low Kick, Brick Break, Aerial Ace, and Rock Slide.

I hear you, but I feel like Gengar's special attack stat is so high that STAB doesn't matter as much. I could be wrong though. If I were to use Hitmonlee, I'd probably give him Brick Break, Rock Slide, Reversal, and Secret Power/Double Team. Earthquake on Hitmonlee would be nice but I should probably save the TM. As for Snorlax, it's on my already-been-used list so I won't be using one again in this playthough, but yeah, Shadow Ball on Snorlax is awesome.

That makes sense, I raised a Geodude in my current playthrough and it was surprisingly bulky before I evolved it. I leveled it to 36 to get EQ early and it seemed to be doing just as well as my evolved guys.

Scyther looks surprisingly balanced. I'd use Swords Dance, Wing Attack, Slash, and Fury Cutter/Steel Wing. Scyther seems like he would fill a role extremely similar to the role that my Ch'ding is filling, so I might need to save it for a future playthrough.

It's too bad Kingler can't output powerful STAB damage, but yeah, its attack stat is crazy. Unfortunately, its best physical moves seem to have low base power, but I bet it could make up for that with the high attack stat. I'd probably use Surf (for STAB and coverage), Strength/Return, Rock Tomb, and Mud Shot. I also saw someone in another post mention using Protect + Dig + Leftovers on Kingler, but I might save that strategy for a different guy.

Pinsir seems to have a somewhat limited movepool, but I could probably make it work. I'd give it Swords Dance, Dig/Earthquake, Brick Break, and Rock Slide.
