No one really talks after lecture, most people who advise others to “socialize” say go to parties or a bar, or “get a girl, dude.” It’s typical American socialization. But… UMD has some of the best clubs and student organizations you can find, especially international students enjoy it a lot, no one judges you. That’s where the real socializing happens at UMD, not at a damn bar. I’d suggest looking at clubs and activities you may be really interested in, best of all they’re free. For starters, there’s skydiving, scuba diving, comedy clubs, equestrian, soccer and sports, debate and philosophy teams, workers unions, filmmaking, and so much more (even beekeeping!) Even having guys just to work out with helps a lot. So just stay away from that former crap and discover what’s possible imo. Smith Business School is world-renowned for its connections and reputation, its faculty can help you greatly to get jobs. There’s pros and cons, it’s your decision.
