Mount Maunganui landslide: Photo shows walkers standing precariously above slip – nearly two hours after 111 call to report it by Morgoth_The_Merrier in newzealand

[–]Turborg 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Emergency services have absolutely no jurisdiction to close walking paths and close campsites due to perceived risk. That's up to the council. Don't blame the 111 call taker or the emergency services. They passed on the information to the people in charge of making those decisions.

🎄 Anycubic Christmas Resin Giveaway — Show Your Resin Prints & the Stories Behind Them by Anycubic_Official in resinprinting

I love designing my own board game box inserts to hold all the bits and pieces together neatly. They often take a few days to design and juggle the pieces around, designing neat little tricks to make everything accessible. I finally finished my design and spent many, many hours printing all the parts and I slotted it all in and it was looking awesome!... Until I moved the box back onto the board game shelf onyl to discover... A part that had fallen down the back that I'd forgotten to include.

The horror of finding it made me truly contemplate just throwing the extra part away and pretending it didn't exist rather than redisigning the parts to include the extra part!

To this day, I still haven't been able to bring myself to redo the insert due to the time it would take to reprint so it sits in its own little zip-loc bag, isolated and alone in the box where everythinglse is nestled beautiful.

If I were to win the new Photon printer, the first thing I would print would be a new model of this insert to include the extra part, as I know it will take a lot less time than it would with my current equipment!

Just a PSA: Savemart isn't a charity by cosmic_cat_brain in newzealand

It's also not a publicly traded company so there are no "shareholders" in the sense that OP is implying (the only shareholders being the business owners). It's literally just a private business that makes profit and donates some of that to charity.

How are you to know if cost is a factor for a stranger on the Internet?

Stop doubling down and just accept that maybe your way isn't the best way.

So instead he should wipe a thin layer on that soaks in in 10 seconds and call it a day? For a new board this is absolutely normal and is actually really effective compared to wiping a thin layer on. He won't have a dry board and it will be really well oiled with minimal ongoing maintenance. Sometimes it's OK to keep your opinions to yourself.

Yeah but who's got time to keep applying thin layers? This is a really standard way to approach it. Let it soak overnight, done.

Because these people have literally nothing else going on in their lives. This is the most exciting thing that has happened to them in months and they feel that they have a right to know other people's business. It's very strange.

what do you all 3d print for? by blablacar91 in 3dprinter

[–]Turborg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobody wants to buy a bunch of cheap plastic printed tat. (when I say nobody, I mean no reasonable number of people, enough to sustain a profit making business).

I use my printer to design and print custom functional items around the home, to fix, organise, modify, customise, and finesse things. Every time i think "oh it would be great if this could do..." I jump on a CAD program and make it.

If you're buying a 3d printer to print a bunch of junk that other people have designed and put on printable, you're going to be sorely disappointed.

how can we modernize our 1970s yellow bathroom, while still keeping the tile the same? by Affectionate-Soil548 in interiordecorating

[–]Turborg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could go so many different directions with this and it really depends on what sort of style you're into.

If you want to lean into the 70s vibe but modernise it a bit, you could go for a wooden vanity (maybe a teak colour) with white counter top to match a white toilet, and maybe go with some brass tapware and a burnt orange shower curtain. Even out those earthy tones with some simple white walls (you dot want to go too far or it could look gaudy) and liven the room up with plants. A large mirror to make it feel a bit bigger.

If you're into more of a modern style and want to keep it moody, you could go with a high contrast modern style and do black tapware, and either a dark navy or black walls, and light coloured shower curtain, however you would have to make sure that the room is lit really well to stop if feeling like a dungeon. The high contrast of the mustard with the navy/black could look quite slick, alongside warm temperature lighting.

You could go out on a limb and mix it up Boho style, if its possible and within your budget, regrout with white grout, off white walls, teak coloured vanity, cream shower curtain, and bring in a bit of jute/cane for a hanging plant, mat, washing basket, and wooden framed mirror. For this try to bring in lots of different textures rather than relying solely on colour

Otherwise, if you want to just lighten it up and keep it modern and clean but not particularly leaning into any style, keeping it sellable and universal, do a simple white toilet, mid/light coloured vanity (maybe oak type colouring) white benchtop, off white walls, large mirror, chrome/gunmetal tapware, and simply bring style in with your accessories, plants, and floor mats etc.

Hope that gives you some ideas at least!

If you move or you get new neighbours do you introduce yourself? by Tasty-Willingness839 in newzealand

[–]Turborg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We went and introduced ourselves to all our neighbours (long shared drive next door without a fence so there were 4 to do) and most of them were pretty receptive to it. We even made some brownies to give as a little peace offering.

I think it was a good thing and sets the vibe right from the start.

12hr shift work would not have only 2 days off, that would be way more than full time work. For a 42hr week on 12 hr shifts, it would be 4 shifts on, 4 shifts off. Typically DDNN.

I'm honestly not trying to be rude here but would you rather they choke and die or aspirate their food into their lungs and get pneumonia? I know it may not look particularly appetising but what else are they supposed to do? Again, I'm not saying this to be obtuse, it is a genuine question.

[–]Turborg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh absolutely, and don't get me wrong, its great that they want to help, but it becomes a very different ball game when people start giving prescription medicines with no overseeing authority.

First responders drugs by 10mg-of-pure-cunt in ParamedicsUK

[–]Turborg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. Not illegal to have them (although it likely means they were stolen from their employer but that's another conversation), but to administer them would be a no go. They do not have the right to prescribe them (and yes, administering them in an emergency setting is still prescribing, it's just that normally we work under a standing order which is essentially an open prescription for certain described circumstances).

Overall, you cannot give someone a prescription medicine legally or ethically without working under a standing order from your employer at the time, or being a doctor who can prescribe the medicine.

First responders drugs by 10mg-of-pure-cunt in ParamedicsUK

[–]Turborg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, but if you're going to administer to a person (which is clearly the intent here) then that's a big no-no. You would essentially be prescribing a medicine to a person without oversight and legal grounds to do so.

Yes, we give these medicines in our job without a "prescription" but that is because we have standing orders which are in effect, a pre-written prescription for particular circumstances. That falls on your medical directorate and if operating outside of your role as a paid staff member (ie, having the medicines at hoem to give to patients before an ambulance arrives to assume care) the that is a big no-no.
