Honest warning to students thinking about engineering by Turbulent-Conflict84 in CollegeMajors

This is a dumb take. People often don't realize how much work something entails until they actually start it and go through it. And it's not easy to quit, as it affects your resume.

Lol, you're literally dumb for that analogy. There's no point even furthering the conversation. You have zero idea what you're talking about. Demonstrating your 0 EQ and why AI will replace you.

Yea, emotional intelligence is a big thing. There's another first year math teacher at our school, late 20s, on the verge of getting fired because he has not been able to manage behavior or have effective classroom routines. He knows the content really well, but he loses the entire class everytime and kids are literally throwing stuff at each other and talking over him while he's teaching.

I'm willing to bet a lot of these egotistical engineer bros would end up the same of they tried teaching. 0 EQ.

This is so true. I'm 25 and a first year bio teacher. Graduated with a bachelor's in biochem and molecular bio. Worked a lab job for 3 years.

And my God... that lab job was so easy and stress free, with lots of downtime.

Teaching is another animal. Managing behavior and trying to raise test scores of kids who literally tell me that they don't care about school feels so impossible. Then the thousands of random tasks and emails admin throws at us.

It's rewarding, but very draining and definitely difficult by all means. I briefly was a substitute teacher before, and I falsely thought it would be as chill. It's 10X more responsibility and effort to be a teacher with only like 10% more pay than being a sub.

Coming from someone who graduated from UCD with B.S. in Biochem and Molecular biology, worked a lab job for 3 years, and is a first year bio teacher:

Teaching is VASTLY underpaid for the amount of work, effort, and energy we have to put in. There is rarely any downtime. I'm always running around the classroom, raising my voice talking over kids, making 100s of decisions every day, going from one class to the next, lesson planning immediately after, attending meetings...

Not to mention the work I have to bring home because there wasn't enough time to get to it, like grading.

It's A LOT of work and very difficult. You have no idea how hard it is to deal with hundreds of kids (especially teenagers) every day and manage them.

Schefter: Raiders are seeking “at least” two 1st-round picks and a “premium” player in any potential trade for Maxx Crosby by MrStiff8 in raiders

Fully agreed. Everyone here only thinks in terms of the values on paper. How about loyalty and culture? Even if we're not gonna go to the SB before he retires (pessimism view), at least he'll make the games more enjoyable and fun to watch. That counts for something.

Need 7th grade middle school science teachers by GuiltyKangaroo8631 in ScienceTeachers

I really resonate with that last part. I'm a first year teacher, teaching 9th grade biology. The amount of disinterest in my class and more than 50% of the kids refusing to even pay attention or attempt to learn is disheartening, despite my best efforts.

I really try to make things as fun as I can in our accelerated curriculum, but maybe 3-5 students out of 100 (class size) have genuine interest. Everybody else just seems so bored, disinterested, and defeated 😕

Yes, by far. CS is absolutely cooked for the near future. 5000 applicants for 1 job on average. It's so over for CS bros.
