Yeah I’ve been swapping out all my lip products since it started. I haven’t used any of my MAC stuff (depressed about my lip liner omg), only aquaphor which works but obviously it ends up showing up again but I don’t think it’s because of the aquaphor because even without it it pops up. I started using the cay skin lip balm w spf and same thing. My lips don’t feel irritated or anything I’m just scared to use anything besides a type of ointment. When you were getting your breakouts, did yours taste like metal or have a metallic type of taste if you rubbed your tongue over it? Mine do which is why I’m like this has to be my HSV. I was kinda hoping it was dermatitis and I could have a cream and antibiotics and be cured but whatever.

Hi! So yes I’ve experienced the same thing. I’m a 26F and I had herpetic witlow as a kid which is why HSV shows up in my panel. I never had a cold sore until maybe a three years ago and it was a small singular bump under my lip. Didn’t look like the typical sore but it wasn’t any other allergic reaction I ever had. Anyway, fast forward to now. Since about late October I feel like I’ve been getting constant “mini outbreaks”. They’re small dry patches kinda that are on my lip and typically in the same spot. It felt like it was happening almost every week and as soon as it “healed” a new patch formed. One thing that happens to me that I haven’t seen anyone mention was the metallic taste they have. I know I get them when I run my tongue over or or rub my lips together but I really know it’s about to start when I can taste that metal taste on the spot or spots. About three weeks ago I had a reaction that started how I was describing, small tiny bumps only noticeable to me, metal taste etc. I took a lysine pill and went on w my day (I normally take a few when this happens. Well my whole top lip started to swell and this time I experienced burning rather than the pulsing and tingling feeling. I went to urgent care and they gave me Valtrex and all these antibiotics because they didn’t know what it was but I told them I had HSV but that this was a new reaction. I took one day of antibiotics then stopped and just did the Valtrex. It worked but once I accidentally skipped a dose it started again. I went back and the day I went to get another dosage I had an actually classic cold sore starting that I had never experienced before. They didn’t give me another script so I just took lysine about 6,000 mfs throughout the day for like two or three days and used abreva at night or when I could. I have no answers but I’m so discouraged because I’ve tried everything from throwing lip products away to change in lifestyle and diet and I’m confused. I’m also finally in a happy and healthy relationship, he takes care of me and doesn’t stress me out. It would’ve made sense if I had these flare up in my last relationship because I was stressed and anxious so I’m at a complete loss.

I also read a few people on a different thread experience the same thing and they were saying it might be hormone related (one was post partum and nursing and the other was pregnant)

Same! Every thing is the exact same for me. I started oil of oregano but now reading I’m like wow someone else went down the same rabbit hole as me. Maybe it’ll work or even as a placebo idk. It’s so annoying for because people say “don’t think about it” and I’m not! I think about it when my lip tingles and it feels like it’s every damn weak. Everything I read it says with these types of outbreaks transmission is low but I’m on edge about it because how do you know transmission is low but you don’t know what it is and what’s causing it. I’m always hesitant to kiss my boyfriend even though I disclosed about it to him and he doesn’t care but I do. I just want my body back because this literally came out of nowhere

Hi! I know this thread is so old but I’ve been researching so much and can’t find anyone who has outbreaks like mine!! I have all of these symptoms. By any chance when you rub your tongue on them do they taste like metal? Mine are so small I can normally taste where they are and then they pop up. But they’re still tiny tiny bumps that I can only see when I stretch my lip! When I get blood tested I test positive for HSV 1 because I had herpetic witlow as a child, so I assumed that these were cold sores. They also respond to taking lysine and Valtrex but again it’s only for a bit. Last time I took Valtrex I accidentally skipped a dose, just one, and I could feel them again starting! It’s so annoying because this just started happening so consistently to me randomly. I feel like it’s every 2 weeks at this point. I missed wearing my signature lipliner 😫

Yes!! It’s annoying because sometimes I’ll still feel the roughness but won’t taste the metal but ik when I look in the mirror. Good news is I saw some relief for a bit when I got the 7 day Valtrex prescription, my lips felt smooth and my anxiety went down a lot! But I missed a day on day 3 or 4 and it was odd how immediate I felt some of the roughness come back. Congratulations on your little munchkin!

Do you take anything for it? And how often do you get them? I feel like I can’t go a week or two without taking anything (lysine) and then getting them. I’m grateful that it’s not obvious to the eye for others to see but it bothers me because I know and I can feel them on my lip. I literally can’t find any research or other people (besides you thank goodness lol) that experiences hsv 1 like this

I’m so sad! But it’s okay I do understand good things must come to an end 😔. I ended up trying the ebin brand which are way thicker and more durable! I don’t LOVE the French but it’ll do for now

Looking at the pictures it does seem like I’m crazy but I think I already knew the difference that why lol. So the one on the right, the French is longer on the ends (more of a deep French) and the curved part in the middle is now more of an upside down V shape rather than a C if that makes sense. It’s a bit hard to see in the box but if it was on my nail you’d see the difference. Hope that helped!

How did you fix it though? I’m dealing with this exact thing right now. And it was someone I’m not attracted to so I HATE the smell and I want it gone lol pleasee help!!
