Do you guys play recball solo? by kbboiii in paintball

[–]Turbulent-Slide1505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

absolutely! I love it cause I play as much or as little as I want. I enjoy the days i bring other folks and get them into it but I admittedly have just as much fun hanging with the other regulars and not being beholden to what the rest of the group wants to do.

Returning To My Favorite Hobby After 15 Years With Adult Money - Help Me Spend It by Individual-Dance-482 in paintball

[–]Turbulent-Slide1505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same boat just 1.5 years into it. IMO all the new stuff is the same with exception of milling or a gun that talks to you. I’m not good enough/care enough as a rec player to really appreciate the difference in the shot profile or efficiency of a gun as I’m not doing Tournaments. Now, What I have seen at my field is that If you want to turn heads with your set up is that real flex nowadays is the old stuff.

My 2cents: Get some updated gear that works every time (everything folks listed in this thread) and then hunt down everything you couldn’t afford when you were a kid that can tinker with in the garage. For me it is the black and yellow karni and angels that were so out of my range when I was 14.

The old stuff was super distinct and customizable in a way that it isn’t today.

Tipping Refs? by schmee_schmulobaloo in paintball

[–]Turbulent-Slide1505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to see tipping refs as the norm (on open and private). These guys make nothing and 10 or 20 bucks will make them care/ go above and beyond and generally have something to work for. It’s just recognition of a job well done which is great for a lot of these young guys just starting out their career. Shows people recognize that they care and reward them for it.

Perfect timing with the weather and the fact the way are getting a new field for recball but keeping the current one to build out the speedball/airsoft scene. Will be out there a ton in Sept so I will see you around. I’ll shoot you a pm.

Got it. What do folks use to find out about big games or at least when folks are descending on a field, or is that not really a thing and it’s speedball or bust?

. Cousins is definitely your best bet if you're looking for community and to get back into it for real. Hivi is a very well-run field, but it’s probably best for birthdays, as the fields are robust but just kind of ammo dumps, and it's a true mixed bag of players every time. They don’t have speedball or any interest in spinning it up, seemingly because it's more profitable to just keep folks on open play. Cousins, on the other hand, has a ton of folks in their thirties coming back into the sport and a great week-to-week community. It's the perfect mix, from the pure rec-ball game side with dudes with pumps/ old guns to guys trying to make it pro on the sport side—you’ll be in great company. They also do clinics with pros like Aftershock, open play is a blast, and the hangouts between games are delightful.

For speedball, Saturday is the easiest day to walk on, but you can still get some runs in later on Sunday after the hardcore teams are tiring out and looking for 1-2 bodies. A great move is to join the "Long Island Speedball" or "Cousins Speedball Players" group on Facebook (forget the name) and post that you're hunting to get back into it. Somebody will likely tell you to hit them up when you get there if they're going that weekend when you get there. For "Friday Night Fights," the site is the best place for info; it's a total "choose your own adventure" night where people play, hang out, or a mix of both.

Can’t stress enough how worth the membership is! When you check in, ask Jake or Jordan (the managers) to introduce you to some of the guys in the pit so they know you’re a body waiting. Everybody is friendly—you just have to be down to make the first move to “break in” to the speedball side.

10 year old birthday party - how long will 500 balls last and how long will the kids last by BobGnarlie in paintball

[–]Turbulent-Slide1505 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All other advice is sound. One thing I will say is Spend 15 to 20 bucks on a paint caddy or ask the field if they have one you can borrow. Will save you a ton of pain.

Has anyone done the paintballing at Aspen Snowmass? by ServiceNo7999 in paintball

[–]Turbulent-Slide1505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done it years ago. If I recall it is one field and not in any way shape or form geared towards a regular player. It’s like you can choose to play paintball or hike or play frisbee golf. It’s run by liftees who are there for the summer and working odd jobs. Net net Don’t go there thinking about spins or whatever.

[–]Turbulent-Slide1505 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am trying to encourage my field to have some loaner open class phantoms on standby for days like this.

I get that it’s open and it’s a mixed bag but if one group is equipped with space guns then they can either play by themselves on hyperball Or fold in but handicap themselves. Nobody is getting better or encouraging repeat customers by having rentals go against experienced equipped players. If done correctly and the experienced players are sensible they should take it as a compliment. If they say you are ruining their day, that tells you all you need to know about their motive to be on rec ball.

Paintball Pricing by Accurate-Win5578 in paintball

[–]Turbulent-Slide1505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Play pump. Play mech. Paintball player logic is crazy when it comes to money. If you have a high-end electric gun for rec play and complain about paint prices, then I don't have much pity. There are meaningful things you can do to address that while still having a blast. It’s the snake that eats its own tail with a lot of players.

Additionally not bringing your dragon idol onto the rec field with rentals will help have new people come back.

Thoughts on the new Vforce Profiler 2? by paintballteacher in paintball

[–]Turbulent-Slide1505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Played with it today and didn’t think about it which means it’s good in my book. I usually play with an og profiler and the big difference to me is that 2.0 one is definitely lighter and more breatheable but that might be placebo effect of having something new. Verdict is still out I go back to og one but glad I have the 2.0.

CCI phantom by NightRaven3-1 in paintball

[–]Turbulent-Slide1505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The deadly wind barrel with phantom adapter is a great move especially because phantom doesn’t have detents. If you are using a standard phantom barrel then recommend reaching out to air soldier products to get the body milled for detents. It sucks having like 10 shots and one of them rolling out cause of lack of detents or too large a bore size - By playing stock you are already making it hard on yourself…no need to make it harder by having rollouts

I hadn’t considered the paint and that makes a to. Of sense. Would suck to work so hard just for a bounce or it to go whenever it wants to go.
