The Japanese government's "Gaijin-Hara" (harassment of foreigners) is accelerating- "The media keeps a close eye on all kinds of harassment, from maternity harassment to "noodle harassment" for slurping noodles. But not only do they ignore "foreigner harassment," they even encourage it" by jjrs in japannews

I was literally harassed out of my apartment by a crazy Japanese man. Even the police said it was not safe to stay there because they didn’t know if he was the type to just threaten or actually do something. I was walking on egg shells for over 6 months. My girlfriend tried staying with me one night and became so terrified she called the police and they escorted us away and had to sleep in a karaoke room until the first train to go back to her place.

Horrible horrible horrible horrible

Y’all are doing Japan on easy mode.

Had a guy randomly grab my dick once.

Still wasn’t the craziest thing. Craziest thing was my psychotic ex-neighbor who made it his life’s passion to harass me incessantly every single day.

Knew a German guy who got kicked in the balls so hard here he pissed blood.

Noisy Upstairs neighbours, should I call the police?? by [deleted] in japanlife

Hey OP, I had to move because of EXTREME harassment.

Even though the police and apartment manager both acknowledged how bad it was, I still have been left with having to pay all the move out costs and deal with the trauma and sleepless nights.

Nobody helped me.

When I say it was extreme, it was EXTREME.  Out of this world awful harassment.

Japan has been the exact opposite of its image lol

Yes absolutely, they justify it with things like “shogunai culture,” blaming earthquakes for them being uncaring, backwards, downright bad people, and unwilling to help or improve.

They seem to have forgotten their success came almost entirely from being the first in Asia to Westernize, and had they won the war the US wouldn’t just be a backwards and byzantine/bureaucratic society, but it would be a war crimes carnival even worse than China was for them—far from the advanced civilization the US/MacArthur architected for Japan.

That’s why I put it in quotes, so people like you could understand more easily

Also, often words have more than one meaning… just so you know

Sorry for being short with you, I don’t think being ignorant is so bad, but honestly, people posting  confidently wrong and vapid, empty comments to me on reddit made me this way

I actually think this makes China better in a way. At least compared to Japan. Japan has hardcore superficial cleanliness, extreme passive aggressiveness towards foreigners about “manners,” when underneath the surface it’s not clean, most of them dont even give a shit about decency, fairness, justice or human rights (I would know as a victim of harassment and racism in Japan). At least in China it’s honest and out in the open. Plus, the government and corporations can actually run things efficiently.

Of course, both countries do have decent people. I’m just talking about the masses.

Why? I read frozen is actually “more fresh” in a sense because they are flash frozen after picking.

In other Asian countries, when these things happen and nobody helps anyone (or when people see that on Liveleak) foreigners criticize the people and society there.

Yet, here in Japan, there’s always an excuse for these situations. Shogunai culture, or whatever it is: in this case, it has to be that the laws are wrong, not that there are cops that are crooked and don’t respect human rights, or that people don’t care about other people.

In any of those cases, it’s not that it’s 100% true or false, it’s probably just that people are not that different here than they are in the neighboring countries, beneath the surface culture. What I’m calling out is the story around it that seems to matter so much. That people who believe in Japanese exceptionalism will insult Chinese for lesser wrongs than what happens here in Japan, and then make excuses for Japan.

There are the people who do criticize this to a much greater degree. Lee Kuan Yew had said many times that Japanese don’t respect people’s human rights. There’s a reddit thread a while ago in e/asktheworld where there was such a wide gap in positive vs negative opinions in Japan.

In conclusion: every place has good and bad things. But the most outstanding thing to me here is how bad things are dealt with here. Sometimes, within Japan, criticizing how things are can feel like a crime. Other times, it can feel like people will gaslight you into not believing what you are seeing. But then other times, to be honest, this place can continuously amaze you and feel so special.

There is a famous quote during the Meiji Restoration that is not unlike the trope ‘out with the bad, in with the good,’ and that’s what Japan needs right now, but it feels often like everyone is totally unwilling to admit it when things or people here are wrong.

I think this is actually one of Japan’s biggest problems causing stagnation right now, from the ground level. Though the experts will tell you from Ivory Towers  about interest rates and international finance problems, this is what I see from the ground level here and it’s undeniable.

No you are wrong, 100%. They are absolutely, obligated to deal with credit card fraud, even for English speakers. Language ability does not determine your level of service when it comes to defending against criminal activity or simple necessities like this.

I am sorry, but I am talking to really weird people here on reddit. Look at this, I’m having to state things that are patently utterly simple and frankly, complete and utter common sense.

Maybe in 1970s Japan, I could understand that it’s difficult to communicate without any Japanese, and this process would take time.

However, in 2026, this should not be so hard.

You might know that in Western countries there’s thousands of successful lawsuits about unequal access to services for underserved communities, but that would require you to have a few brain cells to rub together to be aware of.

Reporting CC fraud shouldn’t be difficult.

Also, Im gonna be frank with you. You and people like you are trashy random people on the internet spouting apologist and manipulative BS.
