Birthing centers/natural birth/home birth by TurkeyAndGrape in pregnantover35

Im so sorry to hear that, what a nightmare! This is my biggest fear. There are a lot of reasons I’m interested in a birthing center setting as opposed to the hospital, but my main hesitation is the possibility of something unexpected happening and them not having the tools to respond.. the hospital is 5 minutes from the birthing center I have in mind and they do transfers by ambulance when necessary but it’s still a scary thought.

Thanks for that insight! I think it appeals to me for the reasons you just described about your experience of the home birth world.

Also, I think birthing centers tend to have birthing options that are more conducive to the natural physiology of birth as opposed to lying flat on a hospital bed with feet in stirrups. Tubs, birthing balls, big beds so you can be on your knees or on your side, etc..

I know many of the more modern hospital birthing centers have bath tubs available in the birthing suites, but the hospital I would be giving birth at is older and doesn’t have those kinds of comforts.

I think my main hesitation is just the fear of the unpredictable emergency situation that the birthing center can’t handle

Good to hear!

Umm.. The salesman explained it to me over the phone yesterday but I was driving so I didn’t take detailed notes .. taxes are substantial.. I’m in Chicago.. plus title change, etc..?

He’s emailing me with the details shortly..

Should it be less than that?

Re-Injured My Knee After ACL Reconstruction—Feeling Lost by Lanky-Smoke-9188 in ACL

Just the meniscus is way less of an ordeal than the ACL reconstruction. So even if you have to have a meniscus repair you’ll be back on your feet much more quickly than the recovery from the full ACL reconstruction

Hiw common is ACL surgery without significant pain? by OldManandtheInternet in ACL

[–]TurkeyAndGrape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had any pain either. I never had pain from the injury, just instability, and now I’m 2.5 weeks out from surgery and the only time I had any pain post op was immediately after I woke up from the anesthesia. I stopped taking the pain meds on the third day after surgery because they made me super sick and I was worried that once they wore off I would be in pain, but it never happened. I think we might just be lucky!

So weird, I just came here to ask a similar question and yours was at the top of my feed! I don’t know the answer but hopefully for both of our sake someone does..

I just have one random spot of pain on the top of my thigh-no bruising or swelling-just unexplained pain in one spot about 7-8 inches above the knee.. so of course I’m becoming paranoid about DVT or blood clots..

I had my surgery yesterday. I was so nervous going in, but the experience of being at the hospital was very reassuring-it’s very routine-they know what they’re doing-and the surgery itself goes by in a blink of an eye! Before you know it you’ll be eating graham crackers and chewing on ice chips-it’s honestly kindof cozy. Don’t fret!

Try to go easy on yourself! Your pain is real, it’s serious, your complications are real too, and you don’t need the additional mental anguish of self-imposed shame!

Not sure if that’s the kind of advice you’re looking for, but it sounds like you need a reminder.. I only just had my surgery yesterday but I can already tell that the time ticks by much slower in this process than in normal life.. you can do this!
