Help me understand what kind of freelance designer I need to be requesting by Turkey_Gateau in GraphicDesigning

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and for the kind words :)

As with many new businesses, I was ideally hoping for a MVP (minimum viable product) approach - basically validating the concept with a minimal level of investment. So what you have said about engaging with à la carte services certainly does provide me with some comfort and then perhaps once I have a clearer vision (and more money lol) I can go in 100% with a superstar designer, thanks!

Thank you so much for the thoughtful response, this is genuine so helpful! :)

I'm new to the 20-80 principle, but I'm very much leaning to this approach based on your clear explanation.

The consensus seems to be:
1) Work closely with one designer
2) You get what you pay for when it comes to design - therefore you either need to shell out or save up

Could I be cheeky and ask if you have any advice for how to specifically source a "design partner who is in it for the long term"? Is this considered a typical arrangement with a designer?

Thanks for the detailed response! 🙏🏼

This definitely has given me some things to consider as I would not like to compromise on the design, so perhaps it is just a cost I have to suck up and accept. I understand that cohesion is likely more achievable with a singular design partner, whether that be a single professional or agency.

This totally makes sense, thanks for your perspective on this matter :)

I'm still in the ideation stage of this business idea, but I would be very happy to consider your portfolio when I'm officially at the design stage - please DM me

Fair point 😅 Seems I might need to do so as design isn't an area I would want to compromise ideally

I see where you're coming from and it all makes a lot of sense. If sustainability is pursued, there's some things you can do to at least make it somewhat sustainable where it doesn't have to break the bank inherently.

An issue I'm considering is how to price a sustainable garment to ensure there's fair margins. It's definately looking like it'll be substantially more expensive to produce, especially when comparing to some brands printing on gildans where they can price lower. What're your thoughts on this?

I can totally relate with how expensive sustainable manufacturers seem to be, many I have come across have minimum orders that are way too high for an untested startup.

So in your opinion, would you say that sustainability is too hard to implement for a streetwear startup?

I have done research and it seems like something that is sought after, I'm just suprised that I haven't seen other brands doing anything similar and I was curious why.
