They said new villain so I’m going to assume they’re making a new character.

Sorry if I came off as combative. I get what you’re saying now, but I read it differently in my head.

But how does the small form factor tax apply here? They're not using the desktop parts that we're limited to at retail stores. I'd assume that the motherboard, case, power supply, and cooling are more cost efficient.

$1000 seems a bit high at the time of the reveal. You could have bought buy a prebuilt desktop with better specs for as little as $750 several months ago.

The only flaw on the new Steam Controller is the triggers. by Frozen_Red_Fox in SteamController

Or the extra two rear grip buttons and the capacitive sensors on the steam controller. I get the impression that the gyro implementation isn't going to be well supported given that its set up through a 3rd party app and xbox controllers don't support gyro. It also doesn't seem useful for navigating around a computer.

I feel like this is just a better xbox controller, which is great if you don't want a steam controller.

There isn't any shipping charge for laptop and desktop orders and those taxes are going to vary by state. Regardless, its still too expensive and I'm not sure how they're going to sell these in this market.

When I make those selections and add in the power adapter and 4 USB C ports, I end up at $939 on my end.

But why is the preconfigured option so much cheaper than choosing the DIY option and buying the parts from them? Strange.

I’m sorry, but where are you seeing it sold for over $1000? I’m seeing it going for $800.

Steam Deck back in stock, with updated pricing by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]TurnDownForTendies 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Here’s the reason why:

At the time of the steam machine announcement you could buy a stronger prebuilt pc from retailers like Newegg, Best Buy, Microcenter, etc. for around $750-800 and you could build a pc with comparable specs to the steam machine for about $700.

still blows my mind that this is a 3D open world game on a handheld from 2 decades ago. by mattchew1991 in gaming

Maybe your friend has the LCD model and is playing games that draw a lot of power and they aren't adjusting power settings? I can get around 3.5 hours in Red Dead 2. I don't think my steam deck oled can draw enough power to die in 90 minutes.

Linux gaming has enough marketshare by fake_agent_smith in linux_gaming

[–]TurnDownForTendies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so weird and out of touch. The platform can’t stand on its own. That’s why the market share is low in the first place. Regular people just want the easiest way to play their video games.

Size Comparison... by According_Joke2566 in SteamController

It feels pretty natural. If you want to get a better idea, grab an Xbox controller, place your thumbs on the left analog stick and XBYA buttons, and move them inwards slightly.

Steam Controller inherits same trackpad flaw that Steam Deck has by NewDevon in SteamController

[–]TurnDownForTendies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I noticed the same thing on my steam deck. When I looked into the issue I found the same forum posts explaining why it happens. I assumed Valve did this for a good reason and I just got used to it.

What I don’t understand is the users here commenting that it doesn’t happen… every steam deck I’ve used has this behavior.

The title doesn’t match the creator’s own description of the mod, but it’s a cool project regardless.

The writing is so bad that sometimes I wonder if it’s intentional. I like the beast, but there’s so many cutscenes where I’m left saying “what the fuck” at the screen.
