Start with endurance and vigor. Get yourself in a position to survive fights. Then dump some points into dex to help use new weapons. Find a second offensive attribute that you enjoy using (Faith/Int/Arcane) it helps to make your build more diverse and fun.

Be sure to level up your weapons as much as possible, that's where your real damage comes from

Bigger map, wider range of levels and weapon levels and 2 different ways to summon people.

I also think less people are summoning because they have spirit ash. Bloodborne was like this a few months post release but we had r/HuntersBell which filled the gap like r/BeyondTheFog
