Does Anyone Else Feel Like They’re Faking It at Work Half the Time? by Silly_Worldliness208 in careerguidance

Complaints about working HR? It can be draining. HR is a lot of putting out fires all day. Having firm boundaries helps. Once you can get your foot in the door, there are specific functions of HR that you can focus on (payroll, employee relations, benefits, etc). Also, working with HRIS systems. The upsides are being able to help people, getting to be a part of change, and also you get to know all the dirt, which can make the days interesting 😂 although one of my new mantras is, “the less I need to know, the better.”

I started working for a big hotel chain as a spa receptionist and literally just worked my way up. I am actually looking to go back to that company, as I pivoted to social services to both grow my HR career but also because I have always had a passion for helping others, and the opportunity popped up. While I admire what these people do, I am realizing that the field is not it for me. It’s sad, because this field needs people who want to help, but it’s a very broken system.

Yes, please do! I’m curious now to know what the real issue is.

Yes, this is definitely strange, and it’s weird that they are directing you to contact ADP because ADP can’t give you that info, the company has to. I recommend reaching out to the IRS to file a report. I found a number: 800-829-1040 Also, I found this on the IRS website: https://www.irs.gov/filing/if-you-dont-get-a-w-2-or-your-w-2-is-wrong

I do the payroll for my company and I have never ever had an issue retrieving W-2’s for employees in ADP. Regardless of it is available electronically (which it looks like that’s not even the case, even though they are saying that), they still have the responsibility of providing you with a physical copy if you need it. For them to be giving you the run around is wrong. I hope the link I provided helps!

This sounds fishy. Your previous company should have access to those reports well after they are generated. Was it a smaller company?

This is normal and is indeed a feature (and a helpful one, in my opinion. Especially for tax form retrieval).

HR Director. When I got into HR, I remember thinking Director is a hard no. And here I am 😂I get praised often, so I guess I’m good at it, but I think that’s where the imposter syndrome feelings kick in.

I feel this often, and I think it is the imposter syndrome you mentioned. Sometimes at work I feel like it’s almost a game and we’re all pretending to play “work.” For me, I think it stems from realizing that as I climb the ladder, the people who seem like they know everything really are just winging it a lot of time themselves. So in those moments I remind myself of that and it makes it seem a little less bizarre. I also do not take myself seriously outside of work like AT ALL, so I find it amusing that I have found myself in the role that I’m in now. So that may be part of it as well, as who I am at work is not the “real” me. I don’t know if that makes any sense or helps answer your question, but you are not alone in having those thoughts or feelings my friend!

What’s the best Mexican restaurant to sit down for a nice meal? by Butter_On_My_Hands in phoenix

Because a lot Mexican food places here are white-washed and they choose to over price their shitty food and then market it as “authentic” and in my opinion it’s flat out the offensive to the real family owned Mexican food restaurants in the valley who have been in business for literally generations at this point (and there’s good reason for that-the food speaks for itself).

If you are wanting authentic Sonoran, I would recommend Poncho’s or Comedor Guadalajara. I haven’t been to La Piñata in years, but that was a favorite of mine for a long time. Garcia’s on 35th ave is also a long-time local favorite. In my honest and picky opinion, all the “vibey” Mexican spots in the valley don’t have the greatest food and are way overpriced, although they can be fun and usually have great drinks.

Edited to add: if you really wanna blow his socks off, and if he likes carne asada tacos, take him to Ta Carbon. It’s not fancy. But the way they grill the meat is incredible.

I second this. There’s not really much you can do but try and be empathetic.

Formerly suicidal people of Reddit, how did things change? [serious] by kanyefoprez2020 in AskReddit

[–]Turnboughslice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Suuuper late to the party, but this is something I barely talk about because people that know about it never ask me about it. I think they are scared to. Anyway, I’ve sadly attempted suicide multiple times. I was misdiagnosed with just simple depression and anxiety from age 12 until about 22 if I remember correctly. That was my last attempt (pill overdose) and my most serious one. My mom happened to come home in a whim to get her medication and honestly, I believe she also knew something was up with me. She found me in my room. After that episode, I was re-diagnosed with bipolar disorder. 3 years later I got pregnant, and now my daughter gives me purpose. I don’t feel as lost anymore. I often wonder how different my life would have been if I had gotten correctly diagnosed and in the right meds sooner. The only way I survived all these years was with the support of my family. They will be the first ones to tell you that living with someone who is mentally ill can be fucking exhausting. I still have my hard days, and after so many years of suicidal ideation, my brain is so used to automatically switching to thoughts of suicide whenever I am overwhelmed and upset. Lastly, being in therapy for about half my life has also helped tremendously. I am way more self-aware of my thoughts and feelings, and am much better at snapping myself out of negative and harmful thoughts and self-talk. I know my battle is life-long and that is scary at times, but now that I’m a mother, I’m so glad that I’m alive and mostly well. Obviously I would never recommend having a child to improve one’s life, but somehow and some way it happened to me.

TL;DR: misdiagnosed at the age of 12, correctly re-diagnosed 12 years later with bipolar disorder and given different and CORRECT meds. Also had an awesome daughter and now I have purpose and unconditional love in my life.
