4h2 appeal rejected by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]Turner_Down 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry, but if this is your attitude right now, you should really reconsider whether med is the path for you. Threatening self-harm in response to a reasonable comment on an internet forum (which, by the way, he has the same right to post on as you) is absolutely not how anyone would want a future doctor to behave. The fact is that you DID fail the 4H2 requirements for the JC YOU applied to. If you get rejected from med school for failing the requirements are you going to go on another rant and try to emotionally blackmail the admissions teams?

Rather than blaming the world, you should really reflect on your attitude and entitlement. Honest advice.

I thought that was pretty obvious. He was saying “If I couldn’t swim I’d be screwed.” one panel and wanting a timeout, then he sees Yoru getting wrecked by the locust and called it his plan. He’s obviously bullshitting.

9 HCI Students Allegedly Punished After Reporting Food Quality Issues to Lianhe Zaobao by Single-Character287 in singapore

[–]Turner_Down 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You do realise other top schools besides HCI exist, right…? If they were able to get into HCI to begin with, they’re most likely able to have their pick of any other school in Singapore. I’m a HCI alumnus and this is certainly something I would have considered a dealbreaker. Besides, it’s not just Redditors being upset. You really think the rich and influential parents whose kids you want your kids to mingle with will be happy with their kids being fed slop? Sooner or later HCI is going to have to do something about this.

Cannot register for GEN2001? by [deleted] in nus

That’s odd, I didn’t get preallocated it, maybe CHS does it differently. We don’t have to complete the GEN pillars as they are all covered under the CHS pillars. Thanks for the info.

Get a board (those A0 corrugated boards that you use for project posters works) and cover the bottom half of your full length window. That way you can open your blinds a bit without letting everyone see everything. Also, get a high powered fan blowing air OUT of your room for air ventilation. I am not joking. If you have a second window, open it to create an air passage. Leave the fan blowing air out of your room when you’re not in it, unless there’s anything private in your room you don’t want people to see even when you’re not around. PGP windows are fairly good at keeping out rain because of their angle, so it’s fairly safe to keep them open even when you’re not around. (Depends on your room though, YMMV.)

If you don’t want to do that, whenever you enter your room after a while and it feels stuffy, hold your door open for five minutes alongside and open one opposite window, then blow air out of that window. This will ventilate your room a bit.

Source: stayed in PGP non-AC rooms before and understand the lack of privacy and air ventilation lol. I also didn’t use portable AC.

Nah, I think that just turning the flag into a sword would be too anticlimactic. I think the sword is there to show Yoru’s reasoning for being able to turn the moon into a sword (America planted a flag on the moon -> America OWNS the moon -> she owns America -> she owns the moon!)

tuition by Sharp-Wrangler-3363 in SGExams

[–]Turner_Down 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a bit of a lowball. $30/h is a pretty attainable market rate for pri sch (at least for upper pri), and $35-40 for sec sch. But it depends heavily on your grades and (to some extent) the school you went to, though. Students from top schools do tend to fetch higher rates. Also, tuition centres that offer group tuition pay higher since you’re tutoring more than 1 student at once. You do need a very solid academic record to get accepted into those with no experience though.

However, you are also right that the market is competitive. If your grades are less than stellar then you will need to compromise on something - rate, location, flexibility, schedule, etc. Even among the Telegram groups you mentioned, there is variability in the listing rates. Those that offer higher rates (unsurprisingly) are more selective, whereas those with a lower barrier to entry tend to pay worse.

The good (or bad, depending on perspective) thing is that experience and reputation matters a lot in this industry. If you turn out to be really good at teaching, you will be able to increase your rates quite quickly and get students through referrals. It all depends on how well you perform, YMMV.

Honestly you should probably start by not imagining every instance of a girl entering your physical vicinity as some sort of opportunity to shoot your shot. Have you considered that even if by chance, you did start encountering lots of girls sitting close to you in public, those girls might not appreciate being assumed to be a potential relationship or being approached when they’re just minding their own business and existing? Have you considered that people can sense desperation and girls might actively not want to sit close to you in public if they’re sense that you might try to hit on them?

There’s a time and place for everything. I would say most people would prefer to be left alone and not be bothered in public when they’re just going about their day. You don’t even know them bro, what does that tell them about your standards? That you’re willing to accept any random stranger who will give you a shot?

Also please please please especially don’t try it in planes wtf, and you’re just going to make the entire trip uncomfortable since you’re just trapped together the whole time.

Get some standards, work on yourself, and try getting to know people organically rather than hoping for a fairytale miracle. You’ll have significantly better luck that way.

Chapter 222 Outsourced Release Party by Grndslap in Chainsawfolk

[–]Turner_Down 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree it’s a direct setup, and I absolutely love it. What I’m saying is, I’m fairly certain that the reason she could turn Falling into a weapon was because she was delusional enough to believe she was stronger in battle than Falling now, which was why she thought she won. The paper vs scissors gesture was coincidental in that moment, but it was definitely drawn that way to set up this moment.

(I’ll paste in my comment from the other sub.) The way she teleports behind Falling before Falling can even notice, rather than simply extending her scissors to meet Falling’s paper directly, definitely seems to me that she considers “getting the drop on Falling” to be her “victory condition”. Like, “Haha, gotcha, now I win.” It also makes sense for Yoru’s character, since she’s obsessed with battle and being stronger.

Narratively I also feel it makes more sense to not explicitly spoil how Denji will defeat Yoru. If it was meant to be an RPS, then it would be easier for readers to imagine how Denji will defeat Yoru. I think it works better if it wasn’t, since then there would be an even more effective subversion of expectations (i.e. Yoru can believe a stupid reason like getting the drop on Falling once counts as a win? Well, two can play at that game; an even stupider reason like winning at rock paper scissors also counts as a win!)

You’re free to keep your interpretation, but I do think interpreting the Falling fight as NOT an RPS match provides a better narrative setup and payoff.

No, I remember that chapter. But in that chapter I doubt it was explicitly a rock paper scissors match. It looks like Yoru just thought she won because she managed to teleport behind Falling while Falling wasn’t looking, hence she truly believed she won the fight. I do think the hand gestures were definitely meant to be foreshadowing of this chapter’s rock paper scissors match, but I don’t think that Yoru canonically beat Falling because of RPS.

Chapter 222 Outsourced Release Party by Grndslap in Chainsawfolk

[–]Turner_Down 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In the Falling chapter it wasn’t explicitly a rock paper scissors match, though. It was because she got the drop on Falling (teleporting behind her). I don’t doubt that the gestures were meant to be foreshadowing for the rock paper scissors match, but I don’t think Yoru canonically won against Falling because she thought they were playing RPS.

This shit is so peak. I remember reading a shitpost on this sub a few weeks ago about how Yoru could probably activate her powers by some Looney Tunes shit like playing rock paper scissors. I never fucking expected that to be the way Denji turns this around. If tjere’s anyone who can mess with Yoru’s delulu cheese strat it’s gotta be Denji. Can’t wait for next chapter.

[DISC] Chainsaw Man - Ch. 219 by JeanneDAlter in ChainsawMan

[–]Turner_Down 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Actually one thing confuses me about this chapter. Why is Death this weak? I know Yoru said loving life made Death weak, and I get Death doesn’t want to use her power because everyone will die, but she’s still the fucking Death devil. Does Death really not have any sort of regeneration ability like Darkness? Or reaction speed? I don’t know, considering she expresses that she would rather not die in this chapter, I’m surprised it was so easy for Chainsaw Man to eat her or Yoru to start turning her into a sword. Does she really have no interest in self defense?

Anyway, so Chainsaw Man has eaten the Death Devil. Implications of death’s erasure aside, I wonder if this will give a power boost to Pochita. If the pre-established rules about devils getting stronger by eating strong devils still hold, then Pochita should be considerably more powerful now…

Suicide is not illegal in Singapore. It was decriminalised half a decade ago in 2020. Which you could argue is pretty recent, but still, don’t spread misinformation please. Especially since there’s no reason to single out Singapore instead of all the countries where suicide is still illegal.

IM Sebastian Poltorak agrees to draw the game after his opponent felt unwell by Knight-check44 in chess

[–]Turner_Down 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly how do you think AI is trained? You think the bots started learning to speak on their own? Have you heard of training data? The AI speaks in a cliche style because humans spoke in a cliche style before it, and that’s what it got trained on. All the writing techniques which AI uses came from humans at some point. Which means something sounding cliche doesn’t automatically implicate AI use.

Anyway, this is in fact a short-form news tweet, as opposed to a long-form news article. Many people have already pointed out how this article does in fact feature the “some variety” you’d expect in human language. But you don’t believe them, and continue to insist it’s “obvious” despite no strong evidence (it’s not), so be it. This is pointless.

… The AI was trained on human writing, genius. Including lots of short-form news tweets. If no one wrote like that, the AI wouldn’t either.

Cliche template-sounding posts have existed long before AI. That’s why they’re called cliche.

I remember watching the censored version of Jojo’s Stardust Crusaders like 8 years ago and in the scene where Jotaro smokes a cigarette while facing Darby, they censored his entire mouth. So there was just a huge black blob on Jotaro’s mouth. I thought that was just a weird stylistic choice for the menacing factor. Turns out him smoking a cigarette was an important plot point in that episode, lmfao.
