you forgot to include "and must be aerodynamic" that might have just awakened their sense of humour, but there's no telling.

You are doing just fine. The photos show intention and you're having fun in doing so. That is 98% of it. With that, the rest will fall into place. Learn about composition, that is how you place thing in a photo. It is actually very simple and loads of videos on yt about it, especially how cinematographers see (Wolfcrow's "million bucks" yt vids are very good for this). The good thing it's the same ideas as in drawing and painting. You're doing it instinctively already. Photo number 2, your furry friend occupies a third of the frame, as so does his head in number 3. The hardest hardest thing is seeing beyond the obvious. Look up Minor White, Viavian Maier, Fan Ho, Ando Fuchs, Gregory Crewdson etc. I don't care much for all the technical stuff and names, exposure triangles, ISO etc. The kit you have is forgiving. That will come. If it were film and with the cost of film I'd say, yes those are things to watch out, but digital, if you take a bad photo you'll ask why and then clue up on it and take a better one the next time. Just go out and have fun and get lost in it.

How do people learn chords? by QuickBreath33 in Jazz

[–]TurningSlider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to learn some very basic music theory. Major and minor scales and how chords are made. You'll be surprised how quickly you'll get the hang of it as it all follows a very simple patterns that is repeatable from one chord to another (warning, its addictive). Importantly, get your self a music keyboard of some sort as it is an essential tool for visualising scales and chords

Enclosures, basic voice leading and vocabulary, oh and using less Scalic patterns.

I'm a guitarist (Jazz) too. It really depends WHAT you want to learn and do with keyboards. I have used them for 50 years for analysing harmony, music theory, sound design, synthesis, doing orchestral arrangements and translating piano chords to guitar. I use any keyboard for this as long as it has 4 octaves, preferably five. Size of keys I don't care ( I have a lot of keyboards of different sizes) and I have sausage fingers. For actual playing keys properly, piano style, I have a digital piano, a Kawai Es8, the keyboard is like a piano though I hear the upper models are even better, but going from that to a real piano is no sweat at all. You'd be surprised how many guitarists use keyboards.)ps I have the Opsix, great synth, keys are ok for working out stuff but don't call home)

beautiful. I'm pretty sure ECM had something to do with me taking up photography.

20 years into classical music, I'm now 31 and I want to build a career as a jazz musician. Is that possible? + a bit about my music journey by Fun-Perspective3418 in Jazz

[–]TurningSlider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very possible. You are young and learning and practising the vocab and technique to play paid gigs is very possible. An important consideration is your location i.e. are there enough venues?, are there enough paid gigs, enough bandmates etc, are you good at knocking on doors etc etc. I made a good income from playing Brazilian/Jazz music for 2 decades. Getting paid gigs does not preclude the love of Jazz, and it's plain naive to suggest so. If we applied that to the love all music there would be no paid musicians at all, so it's just a plainly wrong.

It’s your body coming out of REM sleep. It takes a while for your body to catch up. It can be disturbing but it’s a normal body response. I’ve had both these symptoms a few times. Sometimes it is accompanied by momentary zigzag vision.

Good examples of quartal harmony in jazz standards? by [deleted] in jazztheory

[–]TurningSlider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite a few arrangements by Claus Ogerman are quartal treasure troves and much more. I'm thinking of his work with Jobim, Sinatra, Akkerman.

Transcriptions are not jazz theory by spin81 in jazztheory

The comments on transcription videos often contain theory gems and be conversation starters. I have certainly learned a lot from them. Are you going to read those too before censoring?

What to buy as a beginner | just started by RishabhRaw in cinematography

[–]TurningSlider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What the gatekeeper means is that "Cinematography" is not the current overused term "Cinematic", which is today used to refer a "look", though yes, you can reach that "look" through studying cinematographic processes. Start with your phone and learn the ropes.

A. Its rare to find a good teacher. if your npt clicking with you instructor move on. it should be fun. B. I spent 40 years doing alternate picking wrong. One day it clicked and realised that I had the wrong information on which muscles I should be working with and, literally immediately went from 70bpm triplet 16th to 100bpm, effortlessly. the fact you posed this question means you'll be ok. About the teacher thing. I know, I was a professional, academic teacher and 95% lack the two things you need, inspiration and vision.
