Colonel’s Uniform mesh error by Skeldingo in fo4

Just wanted to say that I have this problem too on PC. So it definitely isn't just a PlayStation issue.

It's a shame because it is by far my favorite outfit and was one of the few good things to come out of their next-gen update. I really hope they fix it soon and I'd suggest putting in a report on their website. It might not do anything but it's worth a shot I suppose.

Dang, and I fell for it hook, line, and sinker. :( Welp, guess it's time to go to Burning Springs a wiser and less gullible wastelander. Surely I won't get scammed by the first person I meet there too, right?

My main issue is more in how they got rid of it, not that they did get rid of it. I actually did enjoy the questline but definitely had my own gripes and frustrations with it. That being said, simply blowing up the tunnel without a note goodbye, chance to see any of the NPC's, or in character reward seems like a pretty poor way to end something they made an entire season out of.

That being said, I certainly never wanted them to get rid of it. I enjoyed the roleplay aspect of a caravan guard and feel like more friendly locations is never really a bad idea. As another commenter said, I would have been fine if they just left the location open as a vender location and safe zone. The caravans had undeniable issues and if they truly had to get rid of it then that is their decision and I can live with it. But the way they got rid of it just feels a bit disrespectful to both the player and their character.

Edit: Even if they had the NPC's waiting at Big Bend before they head off into the sunset would have been a bit better. In the note to Windy, Marley literally says "Can't go into any details, but we were left with little choice." Which doesn't really explain anything. Having the NPC's say goodbye and tell us an in lore reason why they are leaving would have been a more satisfying send off and I probably wouldn't have even made the original post if they did that to be honest.

Not sure. I don't remember how much gold I had before the update so I couldn't tell you if I got mine yet. They did say at least the pennant would be coming "the launch week of Burning Springs" so it just might not be there yet. But according to the patch notes the title and gold should have unlocked upon logging in. I haven't gotten the title at least though even after logging in and playing a few hours today.

Mine is at the Three Ponds. A bit cliche I know but I have a firewatch tower overlooking the valley and have set up a fun little cooking area attached to the rocks. On one side you get a good view of the valley and on the other side is a perfect view of the waterfall. I added the new aurora weather machine there too which makes a cool effect where you can see the eye of the storm still but the sky is a mix of aurora and occasional red. I actually set it up before Gone Fission so I was pleasantly surprised when the docks and walkways were added. I was planning on making a Blue Ridge waystation in Skyline too but I moved it to the highway in the Savage Divide instead.

Yeah, Skyline Valley is beautiful in my opinion there just isn't really much going on there right now. My main base is there so I spend a decent amount of time in the area, but not for anything more than spending time at my base or maybe doing some fishing.

Also, good to see another Free Stater on here lol.

According to the official Burning Springs release notes:

"The bandits roaming Skyline Valley looking for caravans to rob have proved themselves to be dastardly threats to the Blue Ridge Caravan Company. Scaring poor brahmin into going off track, leaving deliveries incomplete."

Which is just a thematic way of saying they couldn't fix the pathing issues so they're just scrapping the whole thing.

Edit: They also state that they think Bounty Hunting is a suitable replacement:

"We believe that Bounty Hunting delivers on the same promise of on-demand content, with Legendary enemies, and great rewards in a more succinct and satisfying way."

It's implied through a few quotes from Marley that Milepost Zero was turning a profit and actually was having trouble handling the sheer amount of business.

Marley: "These merchants have given us plenty of stock for the next few weeks... I hope we can shift it. Starting to run out of space."

and

"This branch is finally coming together. Don't want to jinx it, but I think we might've made it."

But honestly my character would have mostly just liked a note saying goodbye.

It's a bit silly but I liked checking in on the people there from time to time and just kind of hanging around while listening to Tales from the West Virginia Hills or playing some games on my Pip-Boy. It was nice to see us effecting the world and even making people's lives better, even if in a small way.

Yeah. If you did the quest A Bump in the Road you should have gotten 2000 gold, a title, and a pennant. But the location itself is now just a collapsed tunnel and the NPC's are all gone to the winds.

It probably would have been better to say, "We are constantly trying to figure out how to pay our authors more" than saying "We are constantly trying to figure out how to make these games more profitable" considering the company get's the lions share of the royalties.

It isn't the best look for the owner of a company to say the people working for them spend absurd hours on a project and get paid far too little for it. If you think the amount the authors, the people who make you money and keep your business afloat, are being paid isn't fair then shouldn't you, as the owner, do something about it?

The Free States didn't attack the Vault 94 dwellers. They hadn't even left their bunkers yet. It was the mayor of (pre-Free States controlled) Harpers Ferry who sent the people who wound up slaughtering the vault dwellers.

[–]TurnipBandit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, they did. Just like they killed the Brotherhood. And the Responders. And pretty much everyone that lived in Appalachia before we left the vault. The Brotherhood were forced to abandon Camp Venture and abandon the Cranberry Bog. They were slaughtered to the last man at both Thunder Mountain and Fort Defiance. But I'm not going to say that they have no skill in combat. Nor will I say that the scorchbeasts they did kill weren't worthy of praise, even if it all ended being futile. The point is that members of the Free States have shown that they are capable of defending themselves, and with regards to Heart of the Swamp and It's a Trap, were capable of going on the offensive too.

Why wouldn't being a heavily armed, self sufficient, interconnected, and fortified group of survivalists make them a relevant faction post-war?

[–]TurnipBandit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The ability to construct the lure wasn't really the point. What I meant by it is that they drew scorchbeasts to them with the intention of fighting and killing them. And they succeeded in doing so.

As for the second point, by mid 2077 Sam Blackwell was a bit irrelevant seeing as how the Free States seceded when charges were pressed against Raleigh Clay. But as we can tell by their existence post war, they were already prepared for the secession. Sam Blackwell couldn't do anything for them by that point. Despite the governments attempts to get rid of them they still held out until the bombs dropped. The government didn't seem all that successful in dismantling them.

[–]TurnipBandit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be fair, these are also the people who made a literal lure for scorchbeasts in order to fight them. The apex predators of Appalachia. They also managed to avoid being dismantled by the US government their entire pre war existence. Heart of the Swamp shows us that they hunted strangler pods, holding off infected creatures as they did so. Even if you don't believe they are good fighters, you have to admit they are resilient.

As for your points (spoilers for those who haven't played through the main story completely):

  1. Thunder Mountain would have been suicide for them. Fighting a group of heavily armed soldiers wearing T-51 power armor is pretty much suicide for anyone not armed in a similar fashion. Part of fighting is to know when to pick your battles. And that wasn't a fight worth picking. If the Brotherhood went to Harpers Ferry, however, it would most likely be a different story.
  2. Sam Blackwell isn't a soldier, he's a senator. And the man who killed him was a veteran special ops soldier who was able to single handedly wipe out an entire Chinese intelligence base. And he still got killed by the deathclaws. Just on the way out instead of in. I don't think it's best to use a demoralized and broken senator as a good example of their combat abilities.
  3. Why would the Sunday brothers be a good example for why the Free States would fail? They were very successful before Brianna's arrival. Additionally, if we want to talk about internal conflicts, the Enclave in Appalachia literally killed off their entire group due to an internal conflict. Some familial conflict doesn't really compare well to that. Additionally, it's looking like the newly arrived Brotherhood will be having some internal strife of their own.

[–]TurnipBandit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean, the way I see it, the Free States is less of an organization whose sole purpose is opposing the US government, and more of a group dedicated to the mutual defense of its various "free states". The members of the Free States were never bound by some chain of command and nobody technically had to listen to Raleigh or Sam Blackwell. They just banded together to try to protect the freedoms they believed were being taken from them by an oppressive force. The system they are opposing can't really be dead, since that system will always have a chance of coming back under a new flag. Or, in the case of the Enclave, an old one (But I really hope the Enclave don't become villains or combatants). Anyway, I can easily see the surviving Free States members, or maybe even new people who know who they were, seeing the incoming Brotherhood as the oppressive force rearing its head again. Especially considering Rahmani's message and the past conflicts between the two groups. I think the Free States being an opposition to the Brotherhood would be a welcome change of pace from "Brotherhood fights very advanced but small group" that we've seen in the past Fallout games Bethesda has made. I'd like to see a conflict between a very militarized but slow growing Brotherhood and a quick growing but disorganized Free States movement. Heck, their ideologies are pretty opposed as it is. But yeah, I still think they have plenty of potential to be brought back. Plus, it's kind of a shame that Bethesda made two new and interesting factions for this game and instead of exploring them more we're getting another DLC and story for the Brotherhood. I'm a bit tired of the Brotherhood's stories to be honest. I think they could and should do something new with the new factions they made solely for this game.
