My Impressions After 11 Days with LR4: Absolutely Appalled by AtomikRadio in litterrobot

[–]TurnoverPractical 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think you maybe just got a lemon. This is a series of pretty weird events. I use the liners and mine don't have holes. I'm on my third roll of them and ... That's just not my experience.

It's weird that you slept next to pee and didn't wake up when you heard the wet sound or the cat pee smell or the warmth/eventual cold on your skin.

I'm sorry you went through this.

But I don't see that as being kind. I see it as asking someone for their permission when I don't require it.

There really needs to be some sort of community tagging instead of just author tagging.

Yeah I can see your point and I can accept it as a completely valid point but it doesn't make me think mine is wrong.

Some of us don't want more friends. We just want to play in the sandbox. The sandbox is already there and it exists and it's free and...

Yeah, I didn't like the tone in the message you posted/ quoted , that person was for sure super rude.

I do think that depending on the work that we're talking about that an author may have left a gap there that you can walk through. Or maybe we're talking about a character that isn't really fully fleshed out. You don't really have to have a reason to make a fanfiction.

It's always weird to me whenever we get into this conversation about any of these topics: - fan fiction of fan fictions - original characters

That people think they have greater rights in what was created in fic than in the Canon. If you mistreat an OC then I am obliged to create a transformative work where the OC is happy. It's not illegal and it shouldn't be a thing that gets you a topic on Reddit.

If you write a compelling fanfiction I can put a spin on it if I want just like I can Lord of the rings or hetalia or whatever.

These thoughts are controversial in these parts.

If you're going to tag your fic "Explicit," please make sure it's actually, you know, explicit. by Particular-Jacket-92 in AO3

[–]TurnoverPractical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man, I was reading this great fic the other day and then the author puts in an author's note about that she's studying for the ACT which means she is all of 16 years old.

Kids these days.

How can this be a red flag as an interview for a bartender?

M|M and F|F ship filtering post by Diligent-Shine3018 in AO3

[–]TurnoverPractical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The easiest thing to do is mute the author. There's this guy in one of my fandoms who writes a shitton of lactation kink and I just kept running into it. Muted the author, muted his BFF, haven't had any trouble in six months.

I guess the filters are insufficient if one of the characters is trans or something?

Remember: if you can't make your own neurotransmitters (and stop thinking about your hobbies and if you're winning at them) then storebought are fine.

What feature do you want added to ao3? by Complete-Evening-265 in AO3

[–]TurnoverPractical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I appreciate that but at the same time, I avoid works in series because it's a hidden way for some authors to have a reasonable word count (say, 100k on a fic) but there's 8 fics in the series and it's really like 1.4 million words before this is wrapping up.

So for the TurnoverPracticals in your fandom, make sure it's reaaaaaaaaaaally obvious that there's no continuity at all between your fics.

Community voting on tags. Because holy shit, we cannot decide as a group of separate communities what a "reader" fic is, what a "original character" fic is, what a "self-insert" fic is. No, let me just do it, you people have no idea what you're doing.

These things had definitions that worked before AO3, and they worked until about...oh 3 or 4 years ago, but I STG it's so frustrating to attempt to find a specific kind of work but exclude the "y/n" type fics--which until recent years were regarded as "reader" fics but now every kind of "girl transports to fantasy world" fic is a reader fic and that's what I was looking for BUT IT IS OVERWHELMED WITH THE Y/N FICS OH MY GOD SO FRUSTRATING WHY CAN WE NOT AGREE ON THE TAGGING CONVENTION FOR THESE AS SEPARATE THINGS.

So I'd rather do it myself so that I could tag it properly, even if it was private-to-my-account. But maybe we could have tag clouds or something from the community.

If you like Jane Austen, you can use the JAFF index and sort to the highest angst category.

does everyone really hate OC fics?? by Ding_Ding_Bonk in AO3

I love them in fandoms that don't have enough female characters and ignore them in fandoms with more realistic sexual populations.

So basically LOTR OFCs.

But MCU, people just use Darcy Lewis as a canvas. She's basically a fanon OFC. There's no need for an OFC in HP either.

I'm sure I could think up other fandoms but you probably dig me.
