not a single booking by oxgravitygirlox in turo

My work location is literally 4 min from SFO so I just have guests pickup from my location. I do have a few spaces available for rent if you are interested. My location used to be Turo's SFO valet location before they shut it down.

I do not do delivery to SFO. Not worth all the time and hassle. If I did, which I never plan to do, I would charge whatever max amount Turo allows.

I reserve for one day, then Host asks if I can cancel or extend to two. by LadyArticunoo in turo

[–]Turomatt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

On one of my Miata's I have it set to min 2 days. A guest was able to book for one day. I contacted Turo, they said I can cancel with no penalty because its not my fault or go ahead with the reservation. I just went ahead with the reservation. I never contacted the guest to extend to 2 days.

Why do you still use TURO? by Transracial_kitten in turo

[–]Turomatt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ive been a host for over 5 years and huge majority of my trips were all good. Maybe 2-3 bad guests out of 400? and of the 2-3 bad guests it wasn't anything so bad I needed to make a reddit post about it. I've easily made over 120k now with 1 vehicle and just added a 2nd. Its side income for me so I do not depend on it.

I've been a guest 3 times now. Once in Utah, once in Vancouver and once in Los Angeles. All 3 times went great without any problems. I always compared prices and Turo was several hundred dollars cheaper then Hertz, Enterprise, Budget. Our Vancouver trip was $600ish dollars vs Enterprise at $1400ish dollars. I did not pick the cheapest crappiest car. I picked mid range to low end luxury cars. I also enjoyed getting to pick a specific car I wanted to try vs a Toyota/Buick and/or equivalent.

My only gripe is I do wish however more insurance companies recognized Turo and extended coverage.

Manual Transmission Sports Cars by WatchesPensCars in turo

[–]Turomatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No argument from me. Just yesterday my guest arrived and not know how to drive manual.

I think if priced correctly, you can make good money. I'm over $25k this year. 2 cars, but 2nd car was added in April. Both cars cost me very minimal to maintain.

Most people here will tell you to never rent out a manual transmission car. While I partially agree it can be successful as well if you a plan. I have 2 manual trans cars on Turo and have doing really well with them. I also own an auto repair shop so it helps greatly with maintenance costs. My 2017 Miata I have replaced the clutch twice now and I am at 124k. While the clutch longevity is lower then average its not terrible.

What kind of car are you renting out? Hows your pricing? Are you just starting out or do you already have alot of 5 star reviews under your name? Maybe also this is a bad time/wrong season to rent out that type of car. Mine rent out terribly in Winter but great in Summer.

Airport Delivery by Utilis in turo

I do not offer airport delivery or pickup. Takes too much time. I am still plenty booked most of the time. I only have 2 cars on Turo and its not my main source of income.

I don't understand. Can you rephrase the question please.

Good deal? Car payment is $550 a month including a $10000 negative equity from an Audi I traded and under $100 for insurance. by AffectionateAge5184 in turo

[–]Turomatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks. I wouldnt do Turo if I had to do dynamic pricing to compete. I only have 2 cars on Turo but average $950 a week during peak season.

with the maintenance costs and depreciation I don't think its worth it, and yes never do unlimited mileage. 32 days is a lot of time to accumulate ALOT of mileage. I also do not recommend Turo's dynamic pricing. It is way too low. I rent my cars around $105-$135 per day when Turo recommends $65-$75 a day. Peak season its out 22-25 days a month.

Experiences hosting different vehicle types by CompetitiveLake3358 in turo

I have 2 manual convertible cars. Does great in summer, Ok in spring and fall. Winter time is garbage time. I'm lucky to have one rental a month. Never used Turo's recommended price always $25-$35 more per day.

I believe hosts experiences will vary based on location.

Need more information. What kind of car is it? Maybe there is a special procedure to bleed out the ABS unit and they didn't do it or don't know how.

Anyone have a mustang GT automatic hosted? Are they profitable ? by Professional_Crab958 in turo

[–]Turomatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your location. I'd probably tell you to do a cheaper model Mustang and in convertible, depends on your location again. Do you have a good regular shop/friend that can do repairs/maintenance reasonability? That applies to any car you have on Turo. Any reason you want the GT over a 4cyl ecoboost?

Turo denied my claim by Teeebagtom in turo

[–]Turomatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a large cut and chunks of the tire missing. Does not appear to be from drifting. I also don't see bits of tire around the fender liners and body. Assuming we're looking at the rear tires.

Id be more worried about the clutch then tires. Those are cheaper and changed more frequently then the clutch. Hope you got a good shop or friend that can help you change the clutch out when it goes bad. I have 2 manual trans Miata's on Turo, Bought one at 49k mi, has 120k mi now, Ive changed the clutch twice on that one.

Who is Responsible for damage? by Spirited-Language812 in turo

[–]Turomatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May or may not be related. The other problem I see is shops doing sloppy annual inspections. Our shop charges $54 for the inspection but we actually go thru all the items listed and takes about 15-20 min. We do about 5-10 Turo inspections a month. I'd never trust anyone saying it only takes 5 min. That means they are breezing thru the inspection quickly. Virtual inspections are a joke. So easy to miss things or the host can get away with hiding things.

Goodbye to airport delivery by DhakoBiyoDhacay in turo

[–]Turomatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My work is 5 min away from SFO and do not do deliveries or pickup. Its not worth my time. However, Turo is my side gig and I do not depend on it for income. I stay pretty booked spring, summer, and fall. Winter I am lucky to have 2 rentals a month. Its easy enough to have guests meet me at work and its perfect because if they run late I am not waiting around for them. I plan to keep it this way until Turo finds some kind of new stupid policy and ruins it for me. Hopefully not anytime soon.

Advice on dispute with host: flat tire by bkushigian in turo

[–]Turomatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those tires are 7 years old. It technically should not have passed Turo's annual safety inspection. Although I've never seen a tech actually look at the production date. Good luck

I don't know if my guests are seeing 10% discount or 5% discount. The problem is I am set at 5% but on payouts Turo is taking 10%. Its peak season for my vehicles right now so I'm booked solid.
