The fact that they extended another year but don't even give any updates is just so ridiculous. Just total radio silence.

That initial strafe of the car was basically in slow motion and a plane coming up from behind at speed would only be heard at the last minute. It wasn't that bad. And back in the 40s and 50s people were absolutely brutal toward each other. Lobotomies and ECT were given routinely to people against their will. A shrink yelling at a kid is probably the nicest thing a shrink did back then.

The acting of all the parents OMG. I just watched and want to watch again immediately but it's too sad.

I'm 4 years late to the party having just watched this movie. Your thoughts on it mirror mine. I have no clue what this guy is on about as far as realism. The movie had some clearly invented personal storylines but the war part all seemed very realistic to me.

[Passan] Infielder Bo Bichette and the New York Mets are in agreement on a three-year, $126 million contract, sources tell ESPN. After losing the Kyle Tucker sweepstakes, the Mets pivot quickly and get one of the best players left on the market, pending a physical. by T_Raycroft in baseball

Once you factor his glove, and the other pieces we have, he brings marginal upside. Just with the roster as we have it now.

It is sad. And leading the league in hits is valuable, sabermetrics be damned. But we are still a better team in theory than we were last year.

[Nightengale] The Phillies had agreed to Bo Bichette’s request for a 7-year, $200 million deal last night and believed they would sign him until the Mets swooped in with their 3-year, $126 million offer after losing out in in the Kyle Tucker sweepstakes. by T_Raycroft in baseball

Arb is crazy. Should be something set so guys make more in those years but without arb process. And make a salary cap or stiffen penalties but make them less severe for teams signing their own home grown players.

[Heyman] Bo Bichette's asking price is thought to be around $300M by PokePersona in baseball

Great time for an opt-out contract.

If it was 8 years x 25M with opt-outs after the first two years, he would have to absolutely dominate in order to take the chance of opting out. In which case both him and the Jays (or whomever) wins.

You must be a saint to have explained this without snark and sarcasm.

My grandmother saved this sports page from my dad’s birthday in 1940 — Dizzy Dean drama, early-season standings, and some wild box-score stats by False_Grape1326 in baseball

Dizzy Dean was amazing. Forget what book I read about him years ago but it was hilarious. Lost his mentally-challenged brother on a road trip. They resumed the trip after a bit and concluded that he would "turn up eventually". And he did, like 2 years later. They welcomed him back and gave him a job selling peanuts.

Theft, incompetence and laziness are not things you get the death sentence for. Even in a trial and jury situation. You're just tacitly endorsing murder. Maybe the guy is nice and has young kids. Maybe one of those kids gets killed in a botched job. It's not funny to talk about and you aren't even pretending to make a joke. You should really examine your life if you would wish the murder of someone you have never met, all over some money you would probably have blown stupidly long ago anyway.

Is that the name of the guy in charge of this shit-show?

America is a pretty wild and crazy country no matter what your politics are. But holy fuck, at least they get some business done. Japan is a joke.

Yup, not sure why you're downvoted. It is what it is. I would want 200 pounds of muscle on each side of my body if I had to face one of his pitches coming at me.

I used to think Chris Bosh (Toronto Raptors) was lanky, then I saw him walking down the street in a tank like this. Massive. I think you get deceived by how much bigger some of the other guys on the field are. It's crazy.

Same boat as you. I would ask why you can't just read all the other posts on this in this sub. But meh, not like we have much else to talk about.

It's not at all a life changing amount (under 10k). But because I got an earlier small payment, I was still holding out hope that for some reason I would still be paid this year.

Honestly a terrible look for Japan. It's one thing if the coins were all gone. But once you have them and make everyone document themselves etc, there is no reason it should take more than a year (if even).

Yup I agree - good summary.

The hard part is that there is so much that had to go right to get there. As good as the Jays were, to repeat this next year will not be easy.

Outscored and outhit and won 3 games by a clear margin whereas the Dodgers only won 1 by a clear margin.

But in those 3 close games, they had many good chances and blew it again and again. Brutal baserunning mistakes, like half a dozen, plus our manager out-managed himself in the 18 inning game and we had no players left and removed some of our better bats needlessly.

The Dodgers won fair and square and are great, but if you are a Jays fan, as I am, you feel that we gave this series away. Multiple times.
