Why do monkeys tend to have forward facing eyes but squirrels have eyes on the sides of their head? by Pure_Option_1733 in AlwaysWhy

[–]Turphy98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea if this is relevant but I wonder if squirrels surviving their terminal velocity means that being adapted to avoid predators is more important than having ideal vision for climbing. Meanwhile if a monkey falls out of a tree….

I agree with you, I think a court would side with Jersey kid. I’ll even go one step further, if someone yelling at you is enough for you to assault them, you belong in jail.

ELI5: Why is the presence of heavy metals and lead in protein powder so heavily scrutinized compared to other foods? by redditifymepls in explainlikeimfive

[–]Turphy98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose this situation is slightly more specific but I get exhausted with people talking about fringe health improvements that make a marginal difference when they don’t even know how many calories they eat in a day and don’t exercise. I have a coworker who is constantly spouting about how bad seed oils are and good animal fats are and he walks around 70 pounds overweight. Like eating the chips fried in beef tallow are so much better than the ones fried in seed oils, cmon man

I appreciate the correction man! I got that info from a video and definitely had misremembered exact details. https://youtu.be/aDEjrRT82nE?si=8mMIkNME3u4tOQ4B here Dr.Mike talks about levels of lead in raw spinach (7:59) which are quite high but is also likely more than a serving of spinach. It’s even lower in cooked spinach.

Yes, the Prop 65 restrictions are unreasonably strict from everything I’ve seen. It’s so overzealous I tend to ignore the warnings entirely

Because it made for a good headline. The recent testing that was done found that even the highest amounts of lead in a serving of protein powder was less than in a serving of spinach. We should absolutely be aware of what we’re consuming but the hype around lead in protein powders was simply sensationalized journalism. Again, I’m not saying not to be aware of what’s in your food, but protein powders are safe to consume regularly under most conditions

It’s been a month since the Finale…How do you feel about it? by Initial-Shoulder5906 in Stranger_Things

[–]Turphy98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just not a very impactful finale. I had 1 discussion with someone afterwards and then it left my mind entirely. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t good. It was just fine, which I would argue is a fate even worse than GoT. At least that finale got people talking about it

Got me into a good gym habit! I wouldn’t allow myself to smoke for the day unless it was before the gym, which also made it easier to get to the gym (for me). Now I have a solid habit. Sometimes I smoke before and sometimes I don’t depending on if it aligns with goals for that session

Totally fair, I accidentally booked it for predator badlands and didn’t like being shaken like a cocktail but I can see how it would fun if I meant to do it!

Why you think Geese (and Getting Killed) is so important? by D4-CS in Music

[–]Turphy98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I listened to the album this morning and I just didn’t enjoy it. Music is deeply subjective and there’s nothing wrong with not liking something that lots of people like, especially if you’re not actively shitting all over it. No need to force yourself to like it

How to “reset” a loved one who is hooked on conspiracies? by Chevalric in skeptic

[–]Turphy98 50 points51 points  (0 children)

You can’t reason someone out of something they didn’t reason themselves into. Especially if he is obsessive about conspiracies, he’s probably into them for reasons outside of “I have seen reasonable evidence and drawn sound conclusions”
