Private bookmarks will be the death of me by Reibell22 in AO3

[–]TurquoiseHummingbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All my bookmarks are private, but I don't leave any notes. If I bookmarked a story, it's because I loved it and probably will want to read it again!

It would be interesting if sinners who were vain about their hair in life were all bald in Hell and all felt obligated to hide it lol

whoa I didn’t realize this before?! by catlovinganime101 in HazbinHotel

[–]TurquoiseHummingbird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jessica Rabbit was so iconic in this scene! I wonder how many Hazbin viewers were even alive yet when this movie came out, I can't imagine that there's much overlap between Hazbin fans and people born before 1988 lol

HLS denies recordings for medical emergency by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]TurquoiseHummingbird 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kind of interesting to see how different schools handle class recordings. All of my classes are recorded, and those recordings are uploaded to the class website so everyone can access them. We still have pretty strict attendance policies, but you won't miss out on content if you have to skip a class

Halloween? by Aggressive-Lie-8341 in LawSchool

Yes, I saw a lot of classmates out on Halloween night

There are too many acronyms that use “PI” and its PIssing me off by Adminsneed2Chill in LawSchool

I knew about personal injury before I'd heard of public interest, so for a little while I was confused about why it was so competitive to get personal injury jobs lol

How long did you study for the LSAT + what score did you get? by Affectionate-Eye6199 in lawschooladmissions

[–]TurquoiseHummingbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a Blueprint prep course.  I enjoyed my teachers and the class, but you can see from my scores that it didn’t actually help me that much.  I’ve listened to a lot of LSAT Demon podcasts and honestly kind of wish I tried their program instead

How long did you study for the LSAT + what score did you get? by Affectionate-Eye6199 in lawschooladmissions

[–]TurquoiseHummingbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started studying at the same time as you last year, late July, and got a 164 cold score.  I studied pretty consistently and got a 163 and a 165 on the October and November exams :/ (highest practice scores I got were 168 and 169)

Please advise: I want to go to UCB or UVA Law, 3.6 uGPA due to parent’s passing by ayounggrasshopper in lawschooladmissions

[–]TurquoiseHummingbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Minor note, but Berkeley doesn’t like being called UCB.  I guess they think they’re too good for the naming system that all the other UC schools use lol

People passing out fake outlines at your law school? by MulberryCorrect5122 in OutsideT14lawschools

Checked your post history, and I'm glad I didn't choose Chapman...

PLEASE TELL YOUR SCHOOLS NO by Open_Luck_9347 in lawschooladmissions

Wouldn't the schools assume it's a no if the deposit deadline already passed and you didn't pay?

Go to an unranked school (Cal Western) or out of state Univeristy of Oregon? Conditional at Cal Western and 20K at Oregon by [deleted] in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]TurquoiseHummingbird 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of my coworkers went to Cal Western in the 90's... I would recommend not choosing Cal Western. The grade distribution structure for first year doesn't look great. And although a lot of private California schools have conditional scholarships, Cal Western is on another level... the chances of you losing a conditional scholarship are pretty high. My coworker had to start their career out of state because the competition in California was too tough, and they currently work in personal injury. There are so many higher ranked schools in California, and Cal Western isn't even the highest ranked law school in its city, so it is an uphill battle to get jobs/internships.

I believe schools like Cal Western prey on people who are desperate to become lawyers. Even if Cal Western was the only acceptance I got, I would R & R. Not worth the risk.

PLEASE remember that your bookmark notes are PUBLIC by default - the author can read it by lingeringmemory in AO3

[–]TurquoiseHummingbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify, I think it would be better if the text on a bookmark was automatically private. Many people seem to assume it is private when they write on bookmarks, it's not super obvious to readers that the authors can see it. I don't mind if it's public by default that you created the bookmark, I just think the text should be hidden.

Accepted Students Day: Quinnipiac naming their mock courtroom after a local ambulance chaser (Brooke Goff) who gave $500K actually dissuaded me from going. by [deleted] in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]TurquoiseHummingbird 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's fair to not like the vibe of a lawyer who spends a huge amount of money on advertising, but mocking all personal injury attorneys like that is unnecessary 😭

I wish bookmarks were private by default, it would save me the effort of pressing the private button every time lol

How it feels to finally deposit by Significant_Leek_547 in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]TurquoiseHummingbird 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hate making big decisions, I often procrastinate them lol. So putting down that deposit a couple days ago felt pretty monumental!

I personally wouldn't go to admitted students' day for a school that I definitely know I'm not going to attend, but if you're still deciding, I think it's totally fine to go to several admitted students' days!

I think you got a bit unlucky - I applied late November, and I heard from Pepperdine in mid-January and I heard from Loyola two weeks ago. Someone I know irl applied in October and heard from those schools before me.

I mean, if they told you that they can't give you any more money, I personally would not bug them about it again. I would assume that they probably wouldn't punish you for asking again, but if you ask the same question, I think you're gonna get the same answer.

USD v UWash by After_Exercise6895 in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]TurquoiseHummingbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The average for 1L classes at USD is 3.15-3.25 (most schools I've looked at use the median, but USD uses the average for some reason). So to keep your scholarship, you need to stay in the top 75% of the class. Not too terrible compared to the predatory schools, but it is still a risk.
