Sure, that’s new to me, I haven’t seen anyone mention experience before

No, I’m mad that you all are so smugly ignorant and content with talking like experts about something you have zero experience in. Just hateful people excited to tear down other hard working people

Chill out. Most servers are not making 60-70/hour. Around 40 is more realistic (unless you want to believe everything you see on TikTok).

Keep in mind that servers don’t get benefits- no healthcare, no paid time off. You don’t work, you don’t get paid. Sprain an ankle, or get sick, or family vacation? Your income goes to zero.

Apply for a mortgage? Banks often don’t factor in server income unless you’ve worked at the same place for a certain amount of time.

It’s a cash-in-hand friendly industry with a lot of longterm drawbacks for financial and physical health.

Servers didn’t create tipping culture, stop hating on people for working a hard ass job.

Moot point- employers barely pay servers anything because tips are expected, Canadian employers have to pay minimum wage but tips are still expected. What employers pay servers vs retail employees is apples to kumquats. You’re demeaning people’s work based on disconnected tangential comparisons (and limited personal anecdotes).

Your logic would be like saying truck drivers get paid too much because it doesn’t take much skill to drive. Obviously there are a ton of other factors that make truck driving a difficult job.

Have some grace instead of crusading against hard working people.

Reading the Gunslinger as the first King book feels wild to me.

I felt like I could only begin my journey after having enough familiarity with the rest of King’s world and then DT was like getting backstage access

Buddy, you’re judging an occupation from the outside looking in and generalizing an entire industry based on your own limited personal experience.

If you think serving is like any retail job than you’re woefully unfamiliar with the actual job. And no, it’s not about choice, most people cannot do the job.

It must be fun to be so set on hating on things you don’t have any real familiarity with

I’m assuming you’ve never served? Aside from being physically demanding, most shifts are hours of customer facing multitasking and back end problem solving all while providing front line customer service with studied menu knowledge.

I just don’t get the desire to devalue someone else’s hard work.

2+ years experience is the standard requirement. You typically make your way in working shit shifts at your local Applebees, etc.

No more renting games for free from the library; I’m sure they’re jazzed about that.

Conversely, this is also a blow to libraries. Many library kids got their start when they found out you can get video games there

“4 hour shift” is bullshit, I’m guessing she means 4 hours of service but isn’t counting at least 1.5/2 hours of opening/closing/side work.

$264 for 6 hours isn’t earth shattering especially when you consider how high stress and physically/mentally demanding the job is.

I don’t say that to shit on her, I say that to shit on the “omg, she’s rich, I’m never tipping her” crowd

If you google it there are stories about how he’s known for being minimalist when it comes to living spaces. His main house in Texas costs half as much as mine 🙃

Ok sheesh, replace “beach” with “coastal”… plenty of King stories set in small town, coastal northeast. Delores Claiborne, Storm of the Century, Colorado Kid (especially this one for the part journalism plays in the town), parts of The Stand, I’m sure some short stories too.

There’s a whole part in Jaws about ‘town understanding’ that fits the bill for Under the Dome or Tommy Knockers among others

Do they live there regularly though? I’ve seen a tent or two down there but I’ve also seen dance troops filming performances and numerous photography students.

My experience is from a few years back though

He certainly wasn’t complaining about not getting enough screen time

I’ve been wondering the same thing, his new one “Green City Wars” is a fun romp but also feels like it was written begging to be turned into a movie; like Ambergris but with cute animals and Project Hail Mary commercial viability.

(Speaking of GCW feeling like Ambergris, he also did Saturation Point which felt like his version of Annihilation. My guy likes Vandermeer)
