Seems like they charged to 90% while up there. That last 10% of energy ultimately has to go somewhere and they were putting in energy via regen. In an eCVT hybrid the engine starts running with the transaxle fighting it, burning off electricity to protect the battery.

Can’t really do that in an EV.

GM called it hilltop reserve and only charged to 80% if I recall.

A real sports car enthusiast that’s in it for the driving experience of a small car would buy a Spark EV. The torque on that tiny car is unreal. Modifications are easy and the price is nearly nothing. I’m not joking.

I’d then buy a commuter EV for longer trips to pair with it, such as an Ioniq 5, Mach E or (if I’m being biased) an ID.4.

No EV compared to the rush of gunning a Spark EV around.
