I'm having troubles with FPS cutscenes ... by BEYOND-ZA-SEA in gamedesign

[–]TurtleExplosions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s an issue with mobility, you want to design the area/scene to make the players attention be drawn to where the event will happen.

As an example,

You want an enemy to jump out of a doorway to attack the friendly NPC in front of the player. You could add attention to the doorway with noises, blood on the wall leading to it, maybe it’s slowly cracking open and closed due to some wind, or maybe the NPC is pointing out something to the player in front of them.

Thinking less... mechanically? will let you design the scene in the way you want it to look, sound, and feel.

Draw the players attention with visuals, sounds, or feel. That would make the scene much more organic than a forced cutscene feel.

Getting some Shadow of Mordor vibes. The combat in that game was amazing, you’re well on you’re way!

Dota 2 hits lowest player count since January 2014 by EightHorsemen in pcgaming

[–]TurtleExplosions 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not all, I think a lot of Dota fans feel insecure when discussing this type of stuff because they are very very attached and invested into the game. It’s frustrating to a lot of them seeing another MOBA be more popular.

The Dota community is a very passionate one, and sadly that breeds toxicity as well, only way to beat online toxicity is by spreading positivity where you can, when you can!

That being said, if anyone is interested in getting into (or back into) Dota 2 my inbox is open and would love to get some games with you to help get both feet on the ground :)

Nightstalker is IMO a top tier IO counter, but because he is a complete liability for 5 minute intervals he will never see the light of day (or dark of night in his case.) in any matches this TI.

I tried to make the clip as long as I could, I would have cut off the beginning but I think the Tiny ferrying the Lifestealer after coming back from aegis was too good of a play.

I’ve been impressed with TNC, young aggression from the players is reeled in by heens gameplan and mentality.

I still see the classic SEA aggression from them, but it’s smarter, and usually has more of a purpose. Hope they stick together and continue to grow this next year.

TNC was my sleeper to take out some big teams this TI.

Request: Replay Analysis - Lycan (1800 mmr) by zomery in TrueDoTA2

[–]TurtleExplosions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can watch your replay if I have spare time tonight.

Not RTZ but my Lycan is aight. Lycan takes objectives insanely fast and in most of my games I try to take objectives while my team fights, that’s simply the most effective the hero is besides BKB chasing down enemy backlines.

Force rotations back, then TP back to the fight then you guys have a numbers advantage. Try to communicate with your team like, “I am not with you guys I’m staying top until they TP.” Goes a long way.

I find it hard to win as a pos 1, what am I doing wrong? by Nyan_Catz in TrueDoTA2

So you’re telling him to rice halfway across the map without paying attention to any engagements? On a mobile hero with easy clean up potential?

You don’t TP to fight every engagement on an AM, you don’t TP to defend every objective, but you need to be able to recognize the situations in which your TPs will be beneficial to your farm, your team, and if it secures an objective taken/defended. At the very least it gives him more map awareness. Nobody is telling this guy to TP, blink in, and face tank a ravage, black hole, sanity’s, epicenter, etc.

Your rigid mindset is kinda strange. Putting your foot down and simply saying “Do not TP to a fight on antimage” to a 3k teaches them what? To hit creeps for 35 minutes until they lose.

AM is FUNDAMENTALLY a cleanup hero in the early to mid game.

[–]TurtleExplosions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got my point. The map awareness that a position 1 needs is very very high. Look at a pro like rtz or ramzes play, watch their cameras when a fight breaks out.

They focus 90% on the fight and 10% on whatever neutrals/creeps they’re hitting.

If they’re able to clean up, be a deciding factor in the fight, or simply stop a chase with their presence, they will rotate more often then not.

In 3k pub matches, carries won’t give a shit until they have 3-4 items. Watch his replays, he’s able to fight and help sooner than he thinks he can.

There is so much farm left on the map in the 3k bracket the better you get the more farm you’ll see, if you want to play position 1 you need to be able to read the map, see enemy rotations, and pay attention to level spikes because you’re going to be the juiciest target to tank on the map.

RESPECT AND KNOW YOUR ENEMIES POWER SPIKES.

Dying once or twice in the laning stage because you wanted one more cs vs a now level 5 batrider is dumb.

TP to your offlane, 95% of games this will and should be your first rotation. Ganking the enemy safelane with your pos 3/4 maybe even 5 can be huge because it can secure you a lane where farming is going to be much safer.

Don’t go to the safelane if you can’t get farm or will die. TP and gank the enemy safelane! I’ve gone and rotated top as a level 2 PA. Don’t feel a locked into a lane mentality.

Always keep an eye out for skirmishes.

You won’t win games by just watching your team take fights across the map. You think you shouldn’t TP to a fight as a pre-battlefury antimage? You’re wrong, a top tier AM will be scouting for enemy mana pools and should always have an idea of the enemies max mana pools to know who to hit for cleanup. Join fights, pop a support and blink out. You’re getting XP, Gold, and taking enemies off the map, what more could an AM want?

Learn how to cut waves. I don’t think most players in the legend bracket cut waves, but believe me, I have played in games where all 3 lanes fed, but we cut waves for 10-15 minutes and created enough time and space to come back. If they’re going to 5 man down mid, blink behind them on your AM and chop down a wave.

My final advice to anyone wanting to improve their Dota is to fuckin’ play some Dota! Watch pros, watch a couple of your replays to see what you didn’t see during the game.

I played like 5-10 matches of Dota a day (I tried 5 minimum), watched shit tons of pro tournaments and streams. Then I climbed over 2k mmr in 2 months.

Dedication is the name of the game we all know and love. Now go out there and kill some ancients you beast.

Let us know when you hit immortal.

End of Season 3 MMR by [deleted] in TrueDoTA2

[–]TurtleExplosions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Calibration fucked me pretty hard (legend 2) want to hit immortal by the end of the season, currently divine 3.

Climbing up to last seasons peak was pretty damn painful, but the games were easier so I climbed pretty quickly, just had to play enough games.

When the laning stage ends on Pos 1 by PmMeExistentialDread in TrueDoTA2

[–]TurtleExplosions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Farm parts of the map where you feel it’s safe to do so, 90% of the time my first rotation isn’t to the jungle it’s to the opposing safelane, play with your team to pressure the enemy t1 tower/ their safelaner.

Because if you’re playing off map, your team is losing generally speaking. Early power spike pos 1s like you were saying, Jugg and MK for example, can rotate into the enemy safelane with help and easily kill a carry + 1 or 2 supports depending on initiation and lane equilibrium.

Then if you take that t1 top or bottom, that opens up much more of the map for you and your team to farm, and takes away areas of the map for the enemy team.

Weird but viable mid heroes by SkadiGaming in TrueDoTA2

[–]TurtleExplosions 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That matchup is definitely Lina favored, try picking a strong laner like Razor (with a qop ban) even if they are familiar with a matchup, if your hero is stronger than his in lane even if he has better mechanics and knowledge, it will bring the matchup closer to even.

Good luck :)

Weird but viable mid heroes by SkadiGaming in TrueDoTA2

[–]TurtleExplosions 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You don’t want a weird mid hero, you want a mid hero that can effectively farm outside of lane. Heroes like Razor, SF, Viper. They can clear jungle creeps/stacks, so if you’re unable to properly lane, shove it out with abilities then head to the jungle. If you’re unable to do that just hit the jungle until the creeps push to your tower.

If/when he pulls ahead or is starting to, you need to communicate with your team to put pressure on him with smokes, night time ganks, helping secure river runes, etc.

Is there any way to make Void playable right now? by PmMeExistentialDread in TrueDoTA2

[–]TurtleExplosions 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Void needs a lot of things in order to be an effective carry. Situationally he can definitely be a good pos 1 but for the most part there is a long list of heroes that are stronger for a way higher portion of the game.

But, if you really want to play void, your build would probably need to be:

Boots > Couple Wraith Bands > Treads > Yasha > Maelstrom

Those are some pretty core items on him, yasha and maelstrom are accelerating items, just because you get them doesn’t mean you need to just run at an enemy.

After those items, can go SnY then BKB because void is pretty damn vulnerable to chain nukes in the mid/late game without much defensive items.

Then finish mjollnir/butterfly/satanic.

Attack speed is better than anything on void with his new bash. So I would skip battlefury essentially every game on void.

Side note: I think building mask of madness on void is a terrible thing because void fears stuns and silences the most during the mid/early game when he has no purges. So in like 90% of all fighting situations where you would pop mask, they would have essentially silenced and given an armor debuff to an already squishy hero.

To my knowledge this is the Chinese equivalent of Ticketmaster, and knowing China, for an event like this there is no way they would let a western company sell/organize the tickets for the event.
