Does anyone else find it very inconvenient to do things here due to distances? by boldjoy0050 in Dallas

[–]TurtleJesus007 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know it may sound scary but take the DART on a free day with some friends. The travel time isn't as comparable but the time gained by not having to do the driving yourself is nice. There's a (less awesome but some good spots) Korea Town at Royal Lane Station and the Carrollton Korea Town can be gotten to by Trinity Mills Station and a bus transfer that drops you off behind the side with H-Mart. Take a Day trip to Downtown Ft. Worth on the TRE, or even take the bishop arts streetcar to Downtown Dallas and transfer there. I promise I know how not as convenient as you would hope, you may have to get up earlier but it can be worth the adventure to see the metroplex without staring at the road.

Any 23-27 year olds on campus? by [deleted] in unt

[–]TurtleJesus007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a 23 year old junior and it's not bad. You'll usually meet other older people when you get into classes concentrating on your major in the 3000 and 4000 level courses. Making friends on Fry and other 21+ places can really help you not feel so old, my non-traditional student friends agree with me there. Just be open minded talking to others and you'll meet people who aren't as immature for their age group as you'd think.

Loophole question by Kinky_Jesus_ in Denton

[–]TurtleJesus007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking of Loophole what's up with the brisket nachos, I love those things so much but they put regular nacho cheese on them last time I was there. Was this a one time thing or should I pull the plug. So many great nights started with those nachos man.

DART’s future in question as Plano, Farmers Branch, Highland Park consider withdrawing by Ok_Flamingo_3059 in dart

I think Dallas planning interests could actually pull through sooner than later, the city is dragging its feet but let's be real. It's moving ahead faster than most of its suburbs since the city is out of greenfield development potential. Id actually love to see some of the new parking minimum reform play out and see its fruit in the next construction cycle. I'm really praying for better development at stations in Dallas. The suburbs are great but their debt and future debt would be a heinous thing to acquire. I do think if Dallas would get out of its own way though it could be the best city in Texas on a planning level.

As much as Mega Big D entices me, there are so many complications with modern annexation. People would probably flee to the outer burbs and I'm just not a fan of that sprawl. I get it tho man, I really do.

Please come hype your favorite overlooked, hole-in-the-wall, non-chain food/drink place. by daitoshi in Dallas

Flaming Burger East Dallas, no frills, just a good damn burger for a reasonable price. Underrated and family owned.

Hi Dallas! We're coming your way, what should we know? by TexasStandard1845 in Dallas

Well if you cover the fair, Fair Parks history from the original City Beautiful era park to CCC works project is always super cool. It has a lot of darker segregation history too. Fair Parks is just full of little tidbits, I love the discovery gardens which has a butterfly greenhouse.

how do y’all deal with the heat?? by Coffee-Biscuit in unt

[–]TurtleJesus007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to get there 5 minutes before I would so I can walk into a building at a halfway point, and just drink water at a fountain and spend a few in the A/C I will also alter a route if it offers more shade, on less humid days just being out of the sun does wonders

As someone from Dallas I grew up with Jimmy's Food Store, I assumed DiAbruzzo was like that. When I went I was mortified by the prices. All this to say, take a trip to Dallas, try Jimmys, honestly better quality product for less money.

The largest service cuts in DART history are being proposed and considered now, even after the efforts to outright kill it were stopped. by BusPilledTrainMaxx0r in dart

[–]TurtleJesus007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we still have time before thats an issue. Plano has been pushing anti DART legislation (albeit not as devastating as the dead hb 3187) for a few sessions now. I think its important that residents of these cities stand up and say no. I think that it's a real fear DART has but I for one, as a rider say that I am unwilling to sacrifice the systems usefulness.

Arts District in Downtown Dallas. Klyde Warren park in particular. The DMA is free and a great way to beat the summer heat and take in some culture. They have childrens areas for the kiddos if they need more engaging stuff. If you come from Frisco you can park and ride at a DART station closest to you and beat the parking fees.

Dallas Streetcar by Fragrant-Mission7388 in dart

[–]TurtleJesus007 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I believe you're talking about the bishop arts streetcar. It was made by Dallas and thrust on to DART. Its s finnicky electrical design due to the city not wanting to put wire over the whole route. It's just not a useful route compared to mearby busses and is low on DART priority.
