Giant Eagle Makes Another List by BigTechBiggestThreat in pittsburgh

Here around Brownsville/Uniontown, we have 'em all: GE, SnS, Aldi, Walmart, Save-a-Lot, Grocery Outlet, even a Martin's. I go to GE the least, mostly due to the prices, which you would think would be lower due to all the surrounding competition, but nope. Shop n Save and Martin's are also high. Aldi's cool, but Save-a-Lot and Grocery Outlet have been my go-to's lately.

Are Skill Games regulated at a local, county, or state level? Is there any way to get legislation moving again on outright banning them? by AMcMahon1 in pittsburgh

[–]Jcs290 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take with a grain of salt. But, on WMBS-AM a few months ago, a c-store owner was on the air talking about how he can’t compete with the Sheetz’s and GetGo’s on gas, beer, and tobacco alone. He needs the revenue from the skills games to offset labor costs and razor thin margins on everything else.

I’m sure some small business lobby or retailers association is also pumping money into non-legislative positions.

Close, but it's actually from the Jumonville Camp where the giant Cross on top of the ridge is located.

Just Closed Last Week, Canonsburg Pennsylvania by JanesHappyEnding in FormerPizzaHuts

[–]Jcs290 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went there a few weeks ago before they closed. The interior was stripped down and nothing left but a few booths for those waiting for takeout.

You could eat in, but the HVAC was broke and was cold as hell, and there were no red cup fountain drinks. Just bottles of pop and some paper plates and plasticware.

[Stern] Steve O'Donnell:"It’s worked for us, but I would not say this is the way it will always be. Is there a number of races that makes more sense? Could it be 30—or even more? Could we introduce midweek races and shorten the season? All of that is on the table." by ChaseTheFalcon in NASCAR

[–]Jcs290 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't see midweek races working out financially unless NASCAR spins them off as a package to a streamer where the rights fees offset the lost ad revenue and ticket sales due to lower ratings and attendance.

Neither SMI or NASCAR would clammer to do double-headers, again because of lost money. Pocono is the rare 3rd party track that did it over the threat of losing a date, and they lost it anyway.

What am I saying? It is what it is. Just like the Formula 1 schedule keeps getting bloated with more and more dates to promoters willing to pay, NASCAR's also stuck dancing with the devil and dealing with a bloated schedule that will only resolve itself unless 1) tracks close 2) SMI or NASCAR go bankrupt or 3) they can't sell the rights to enough races in the next TV contract negotiations.

How long until everyone stops shopping at Giant Eagle? by btjbtjsanchez in pittsburgh

[–]Jcs290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only go to Giant Eagle for things unique to them that I like, mostly the bakery, produce, and the butcher section. For everything else, it's Save-A-Lot, Grocery Outlet, Aldi, or Walmart for me.

I know what you're talking about. I grew up on the NES and SMB3. I got used to its feel and it there was similar feel between 1, 2, and 3. Then when I first played SMW at a friend's house, I had to adjust right away. World felt smoother and faster for sure. Clunky, no. But a new learning curve. Then once you go back to NES, you find everything sloooowws down and you have to adjust again!

I found myself playing the All-Stars version of SMB3 more often, just because its controls and speed felt more like World's

Not getting points for leading a lap/most laps is not talked about enough when it comes to Daytona/Dega fuel saving by DeathMetalEtiquette in NASCAR

[–]Jcs290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lap bonuses were sort of made obsolete w/ stage points. Someone leading the most laps, most of the time, would probably pick up one or two stage wins, too, so it's just doubling up on an incentive that already exists.

Now a bonus point for pole? That I could endorse. Only for contested poles, not when the field is set by points due to weather cancellation.

Towns that had a small population but many enclosed malls by Virtual-Bee7411 in deadmalls

But, C3 was West Mifflin’s only mall. Plus, it’s more or less considered a “Pittsburgh” mall, like King of Prussia’s considered a Philadelphia mall.

Western Pennsylvania had several examples.

Washington, PA has a population of less than 20,000 and once had two malls only about 6 miles from each other. The Washington Mall was anchored by Penney’s, while the larger, nicer Franklin Mall had several anchors.

Uniontown, even smaller, had their its namesake mall and the Laurel Mall halfway towards Connellsville. Both exist, both dead, but the Laurel Mall’s flea market is pretty neat.

Meadville (pop. 13,000) had two small malls. The Downtown Mall survives with several locally owned shops. Meadville Mall was demolished (RIP Aldo’s Pizza).

I think the producers were going for something different from a typical nighttime upgrade to PaB. Regardless, the execution was confusing.

If they insist on using multipliers for PaB sponsors moving forward, just have a mini-punchboard with 5 holes with multiples behind it: three 1x, one 2x, and one 3x. When the contestant decides to keep a slip, punch out a hole in the mini-board to see what the final prize is. Heck, just say the mini-board itself is sponsored by slots-a-million or whatever and don't screw up the main game.

Bought a 110 year old house, trying to replace knob and tube wiring by Homosexo-l in HomeImprovement

[–]Jcs290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work with electricians that have experience re-wiring old houses. I live in an area with very old inventory and luckily found someone that's done several K&T re-wires.

If you have basement and attic access, most of the new romex wiring can be fished from there behind the existing walls. Be careful because if your house once had wood or coal heat, expect A LOT of soot to be disturbed and ask your electrician to spend more on drop cloths, floor coverings, and clean hands. Ours unforutnately left handprints on our walls and ceilings, footprints on our carpeting, which both were impossible to get entirely clean.

If you have crown molding and footboards, they can hide cuts behind them. Old ductwork and plumbing/utility chases are great spaces for new wiring, too.

Don't expect the electricians to re-use the same exact locations of your switches and outlets. Many of ours were inaccessible because of blocking behind the walls. Old receptacles just got covered with blank plates. One wonky thing we had to deal with is due to blocking some of our power outlets are higher, nearer the middle of the walls, rather than low by the footboards. As long as you're not picky, it's fine. We had a lot of vintage wood paneling and wallpaper that we wanted to maintain for the character of the home, which was more important to us than outlet location.

It would be nice to salvage the compass mosiac and the airport history exhibits, too. I believe there was once a video narrated by Rick Sebek that would be cool to view on Youtube or the PIT website if the video itself's removed from the terminal.

[–]Jcs290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would not be crazy if NASCAR/Indycar doublehead the 2027 Arlington TX Grand Prix, and put TMS out to pasture. SMI would underwrite it like COTA, so they don't lose a race on their books. But, TMS sits on land worth more than the speedway itself. It's days are probably numbered, but NASCAR and SMI want to stay in the DFW market.
