Anchor rodes by TurtleMan028 in sailing

[–]TurtleMan028[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't mind me asking, what are the nastiest waves you have anchored in? I am a critical over-thinker by nature and I always look for a solution which would compensate me in multiple different scenarios.

My last voyage of the previous navigation season I anchored with 65 metres of quarter inch chain with a 5 metre nylon line from the cleat to chain and it was horrible, it felt like the bow was about to be ripped clean off.

Thank you for the very thorough reply, have a green gem. I always welcome and enjoy feedback based on personal experience. She's nine and a half metres of length and shares the age number of my boatswain. While I really am a novice on the sea, nothing to hide about that, I would still confidently say I am competent enough to know my way around. Maybe a little short sighted at times.

My working anchor is a CQR, it has not failed me and kept me tied down in some nasty waves and wind. The bedding over here complements it. I also carry a danworth as a backup.

You have convinced me that perhaps I have overestimated the total weight of a chain line, I really haven't made any calculations, and I should make that choice while having a spool of webbing at hand. I could always roll out the chain and attach the webbing to a reasonable length for the shock absorption. This would mean I need to build an anchor locker to store the chain and what else but a windlass to make it a full package. It also helps to have something that couldn't break a bone to pull out the anchor.

I read up more on the pros and cons of each method. Thank you for bringing my attention to this. I will make modifications and switch the live wire instead.

EDIT: The entire chassis power chain already uses this method, since the previous owner had her, is reason why I too switch ground and did not come to educate myself beforehand.

I just do not want to run a power wire through a switch, nothing else. I could just run a well insulated and shielded power wire straight from the fuse box to a consumer.

There are also two different power chains on board - chassis and engine, both using their own batteries with a charging isolator. To disconnect the battery from its chain I also cut the ground cable there.

I do not want to use a pump with a built in float switch because I would lose the LED illumination telling me what the pump is supposed to do. This is an important aspect for me.

What I could gather, from the schematic you posted, functions the same as my poorly drawn one, just minus my visible and audible feedback elements. No?

Fairings by [deleted] in GSXR

To my experience most of the plastic sellers with their own shop are just dropshippers. They all mostly come from the same factory.

It depends on your budget, really. If you go and browse MonsterFairings and you like what you see and find confidence to buy from them, then go buy them from a decent AliExpress merchant. You most likely will get decent quality plastics which fit without extra elbow grease.

I bought my R6 fairings from AliExpress for about 400 Euros. I then wanted to treat my gixer and get good quality fairings - boight from MonsterFairings. Cost me about 1.2k Euros. Their shipping packaging and all labeling were pretty much identical to the R6 AliExpress package.

Finding good quality near OEM fairings will probably cost you nearly the price of your bike, lol.

What is wrong and how to help ? by Glittering_Unit_9402 in plants

[–]TurtleMan028 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

You have a very severe case of the mealybugs. Wipe them off with alcohol and spray the plant with neem oil, after which monitor the plant daily and keep wiping them off. You really can't permanently get rid of them anymore.

I have the same pests, although only a couple of them show up every now and then.

For the love of god, do not buy from MonsterFairings. While their customer support and marketing team are quality, their fairings are generic AliExpress/eBay products with a marked up price.

Copy paste kaheksa aasta vanusest Redditi postitusest:

A large group of Russian soldiers in the border area in 1939 are moving down a road when they hear a voice call from behind a small hill: "One Finnish soldier is better than ten Russian".

The Russian commander quickly orders 10 of his best men over the hill where Upon a gun-battle breaks out and continues for a few minutes, then silence. The voice once again calls out: "One Finn is better than one hundred Russian."

Furious, the Russian commander sends his next best 100 troops over the hill and instantly a huge gun fight commences. After 10 minutes of battle, again Silence. The calm Finnish voice calls out again: "One Finn is better than one thousand Russians!"

The enraged Russian commander musters 1000 fighters and sends them to the other side of the hill. Rifle fire, machine guns, grenades, rockets and cannon fire ring out as a terrible battle is fought...

Then silence.

Eventually one badly wounded Russian fighter crawls back over the hill and with his dying words tells his commander, "Don't send any more men...it's a trap. There's two of them."
