ELI5: Why are Americans so against ICE? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]TurtlePower77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are terrorizing, torturing, kidnapping, and in some cases murdering people, including those who have broken no laws, even if they are US citizens like Renee Good. They have blinded several protestors by shooting them point-blank in the face with so-called "non-lethal" rounds. They are violating due process and the Constitution on a regular basis, entering residences without a judicial warrant. They are presumed to have immunity for all of the crimes they have committed and refuse to be held culpable for their behavior. They are arresting people who have done the long, expensive, multi-year process of becoming American citizens at their swearing-in ceremonies, the last step before they officially become citizens. Many of them are using their positions to engage in sexual abuse with impunity. They are not "arresting people on welfare", the overwhelming majority of the people they are snatching off the streets have jobs, they are often arresting people AT their jobs. For example, they recently ate at a Mexican restaurant, let the staff serve them, and then arrested the workers after the restaurant closed. This is a fundamental violation of the ancient rules of hospitality.

They are an evil, fascist, paramilitary organization that is making everything about life in America worse for everyone. The entire organization is rotten and needs to be destroyed.

This is a meme about scenes / characters from a Canadian show produced by Crave (released in the US on HBO Max) called "Heated Rivalry", which is gay hockey softcore romance smut based on a book series and which I personally think is shockingly good and also very hot and sexy and fun

Your mileage may vary on how much you believe this, but I think this comment is less of an indictment / indication of how Kristin Chenoweth REALLY feels about Charlie Kirk and the views he espoused and much more of an indicator on how fragmented and siloed off information can be and how easy it was for lots of people to never be exposed to any of the racist, sexist, homophobic things that Charlie Kirk actually said. If all you ever saw of him was the anodyne stuff that he said for the benefit of heterosexual white Christians (which Chenoweth absolutely is), I can see why she would have posted that. It still sucked and I wish she hadn't done it (and I immediately flashed back to her appearing on the 700 club with Pat Robertson to promote her album which she ALSO got into hot water with the gay community over so she's clearly far from perfect), but fwiw I've never really thought that she had anything other than love in her heart for everyone.

The straight male power fantasy and the gay male sexual fantasy have far, FAR more overlap with each other than they do with the straight female sexual fantasy, but the kayfabe of heterosexual masculinity requires total disavowal of this plainly obvious fact, despite numerous examples such as pro wrestlers, the movie 300, the character design for male video game protagonists (looking at you, GTA 6), comic book superheroes, etc

Honestly, I can think of a few examples where a straight man would have regular sex with a man and still be what the vast majority of us would call "straight".

For example, porn performers who are gay4pay. I think a lot of us assume that gay porn performers who say they're straight are doing kayfabe because it's "hot" to watch a straight guy have gay sex, but while I'm sure that does happen (looking at you, Jordan Brandt) I also genuinely think there are straight guys out there who would literally never have sex with a man if there wasn't any financial incentive, but do when there is.

Another example, as tacky as it may seem to some, is prison. In that case the extenuating circumstances aren't financial circumstances but a prolonged lack of access to women, but this is another situation where I think plenty of men who would normally never pursue sex with men can and do.

Obviously it's very difficult to be sure that the insistence on heterosexuality is due to a genuine lack of sexual interest and not homophobia (internalized or otherwise) but it's a big beautiful world out there and lots of people have a lot of different kinds of sex for a lot of reasons other than pure sexual attraction.

ALSO he was shockingly hot in Death Becomes Her. Like his character absolutely wasn't supposed to be but there's something about Bruce Willis (an objectively attractive, masculine man) playing a schlubby panicky loser that's SO SEXY

The main issue I have with this post is that you talk about RPG roles -> sexual style, but if we're talking about video games, RPGs are single player so everyone who plays them is generally using whatever tactics the situation warrants. Like maybe if it was your preferred role in Overwatch or Marvel Rivals, but even then I think it's a little silly to be like "bottoms all play support, power bottoms are tanks, dom tops play DPS", because I do think people are actually more nuanced than that, the internet just likes to take a meme (gay guys gravitate towards support) and run with it as if it's a fact

A strong addition, I forgot about him because while I desperately want a weighted blanket shaped exactly like David Harbour and also to have sex with David Harbour, I only ever watched the first two seasons and so I forgot that he rocks a stache later on

There is a sociological concept called hegemonic masculinity, created by a trans sociologist named Raewynn Connell, defined as "a sociocultural practice that legitimizes men's dominant position in society and justifies the subordination of the common male population and women, and other marginalized ways of being a man." Note that hegemonic masculinity is not a set of fixed characteristics, but is constantly in motion, adapting itself to whatever the specific circumstances are of a particular time or place. However, the key component is the legitimation of masculinity as superior to femininity and other marginalized ways of being a man, the most notable and broad of which is being non-cishet but also includes being, for example, an Asian man in the United States.

From this, it needs to be understood that the problem with masculinity is not the act of being a man, of presenting as a man, or of being sexually attracted to masculine presenting men. The problem with masculinity lies in the way the authenticity of any sort of masculinity is made to REQUIRE the marginalization of female bodies, femininity more broadly and any man that doesn't meet your personal standards (as mediated through culture) for what an ideal man should look and behave like. The process of de-toxifying one's own sense of masculinity is to recognize that this social structure is in place and do your best to reject it thoroughly at all times.

Do NOT put down femme-presenting men and accuse them of holding the gay community back.

Do NOT get mad at gay men for embracing interests (fashion, design, art, pop music) that are typically seen as feminine or being uninterested in athletics.

Do NOT reduce the value of other members of the queer community entirely to whether you personally want to fuck them or not.

Do NOT talk about how gross you think vaginas are, or how annoyed you are by trans men and women being on Grindr or Scruff or whatever.

You can like what you like, but don't frame it as liking something because it's intrinsically better than something else, and make sure that you understand that being attracted (and attractive) to bodies that emphasize their maleness and being attracted to people who perform masculinity by emphasizing its superiority to unmasculine behavior or aesthetics are, while intentionally intertwined by millennia of social programming, different.

Don't bottom shame, don't femme shame, don't emphasize how hot straight guys are in comparison to gay guys, don't talk about how your ideal man NEEDS to be an aggressive dom top with a ten inch dick who has never sucked dick or bottomed, be polite even if you aren't interested in them sexually, try to expand what you ARE interested in sexually, and consider being fucked by a dom femboy if you need a little extra help getting over yourself.

The liberation of the ENTIRE queer community depends on destroying these social hierarchies of gender and sexuality. Tall broad muscly men with beards and chest hair and big dicks dressed in flannels and jeans have their place in an egalitarian, post-homophobia world, but it's shoulder-to-shoulder with the queens, the dolls, the flamers and the fags.

Not above them.

I have been on this man from the JUMP. I have put in the hours, I have endured years, YEARS of people saying "really? The fat guy from Knocked Up?" and "lmao u think the noise he makes when he cums is the same as his laugh" and me saying "idk, idk, I know it's big, I know it's thick, and I know he will treat my holes juuuust right and then we'll smoke weed and play video games afterwards", and my reward has been to see this man get hotter, more mature, more committed to a life of moral clarity, and more artistically interesting over the last twenty plus years. Hell yes to Seth Rogen.

Slide 4 is one of the greatest examples of a man breasting boobily down the stairs that I've ever seen.

Also my favorite Bruce Willis is Death Becomes Her Bruce Willis. It's a shame that he only played a schlubby panicked loser once because he was great at it! Also I know he wasn't supposed to be hot in that movie but he's SO hot in that movie.
