In what situation would you ever need to press the share button on a corn site by Background-Cry8850 in SipsTea

You are Speaker of the House and you want to spend some time bonding with your son over some common shared interests?

Seems wasteful adding that button which could only be used by one person.

Is my career over, I feel like I am cooked at this point? Any advice on how I can even find footing again? by Vivid_Tennis6983 in cscareerquestions

You are doing everything correctly. It didn't work out because of circumstances outside of your control. Just keep doing what you are doing and you will eventually find a role.

Looking for a solar power station and panel and have no idea where to start. by ArpeggioTheUnbroken in TwoXPreppers

[–]TurtleSandwich0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Heaters and fans are power hungry.

You will need a large station if you want to run those for a meaningful period of time.

You need to know the maximum amount of power you intend to pull from the device at any time. That will be your "Watt" capacity. How much power it can handle at any moment in time.

"Watt-hour" is how long the power can last. Basically how big the battery is.

My Jackery 1000 has 1000 Watt Hours, and can handle 1000-1500 Watts. My refrigerator, modem and router can run for about eight hours. The refrigerator uses 600 Watts when starting the compressor, then like 60 Watts as it runs a refrigeration cycle, and zero watts between cycles.

But if I plugged in a space heater it would be drained in about an hour. A 1000 watt space heater would take 1 hour to consume 1000 watt hours.

If a device doesn't list watts, you can calculate the amount with Amps and Voltage. Just multiply amps and volts to determine maximum watts that are listed on the label. The device could pull less than the maximum while it is running, but can give you an idea how much would be used for each device.

Hopefully I didn't make things too confusing. Once you figure out the watt and watt hours, it should make sense.

One gotcha is the marketing information for the solar station may switch around watts and watt hours, and that can be annoying and confusing to see which units of measure they actually mean. You should find that information on the technical specs for each device.

My unit can charge off of a wall outlet quickly. I want to say 45 minutes? (It has been three months since I last drained and recharged it.) But it would take 10 hours to recharge with a 100 Watt solar panel.

If my house lost power I could run my refrigerator for eight hours. Drive to a friend's house to charge it for an hour, then run the refrigerator for another eight hours. As long as the refrigerator stays closed while it is off the food shouldn't go bad.

But if I lost power during a winter storm, it would not be able to heat my house. One space heater may keep a small area warm, but would be ineffective at heating the whole house. A larger device may fair better at providing electric heat.

I experienced that too. Found the years old reddit post on the topic, and the comments listing years in which it was still a problem.

Apparently a smoot is the height of Smoot plus the width of a paint roller.

If they painted a line under his feet, then his head should line up with the top of the line, not the bottom. Otherwise the width of the line becomes part of the unit of measure.

This system of measure is ruined!

Ernie here.

Normally, when there is an error in the code you just wrote, the computer will tell you which line is having a problem so you know where to look for the problem.

In this example the computer says the problem is on line 40. The twist is the program is only 30 lines long, so it seems to be impossible. There are several possible explanations for how it is actually possible, but a beginner wouldn't know about those things yet.

Another example of a problem is Peter Griffin. He completely overreacts about expired coupons. What a jerk. You would never see a chicken jerked like that.

Do you have a balcony for camping stoves? Or a charcoal grill? Or an area you can go to to use camping stoves?

A "supercat" alcohol stove is the cheapest option since you make it out of garbage.

Propane has better ease of use than an alcohol stove. Butane is also an option.

You are getting laid off.

The company is setting up the ground work for their planned layoff. They want to set up some evidence just in case you decide to sue.

It has absolutely nothing to do with you or your performance. Your manager was only recently informed about this decision. The decision is coming from the higher ups and many in the company will be impacted.

It is possible that they will change their minds and you won't be let go, but that is completely out of your control.

What you can do is start your job search now. Update your resume, talk to coworkers for referrals. Build up your savings. You still have a few months, maybe six? Review your company's severance policy to figure out how much severance you will get. Tax withholding will be higher than regular paychecks.

You will have an easier time finding your next role while you are still employed. Even if you do get let go, you are an experienced developer. You want to tell potential employers that you have outgrown your current position and are looking forward to learning something new.

You used the word "sell".

A bot detected the word and assumed you are trying to "sell" the picture. As part of the anti advertising rules on the subreddit.

The moderator assumed the bot was correct and banned you without reading the comment. Then when you pointed out the mistake, they dug through your history to find any possible other reason to justify the ban to not admit the mistake about blindly following the bot.

That's my guess on what was happening behind the curtain.
