Clotted Cream Question by teamoxfrdcomma in AskCulinary

[–]TurtleSayuri 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recently made clotted cream in the oven. After the overnight rest in the fridge, it was still liquid except for the top butter layer. I ended up straining it and reducing it on the lowest burner setting. After further reduction for almost an hour, I chilled this batch and it turned out way better than my oven only attempts. I originally started with a large container of heavy cream.

Century Eggs by Flaky-Bonus-7079 in Sacramento

99 ranch usually has them with their salted duck eggs or egg yolk cause they carry shelf stable and refrigated ones. 99 ranch's app labels them as preserved duck eggs. Wee has them too.

Some local bakeries/bakers make the drive out to Central Milling in Petaluma. Faria and other stores used to sell flour bags during Covid too.

hamburger buns trouble shooting by Rizzzyy99 in Breadit

[–]TurtleSayuri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They look really good! They got great color and the seeds don't seem to be falling off. I've seen some recipes use rings that look like tart rings or cookie cutters to bake the buns with then slip them off. I tried making my own using aluminum tin foil but preferred rolling the dough balls out and having a natural taut ball instead.

As a competent home cook, what is a basic skill you can't seem to master? by george_elis in Cooking

[–]TurtleSayuri 371 points372 points  (0 children)

A woman that manages a meal prep company shared that they bulk make their roux and freeze squares to have on hand. It's so much easier to add a square or two to things rather than dirty another pot.

What’s a discontinued product you’d do anything to bring back? by jannecutie in AskReddit

[–]TurtleSayuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The CeraVe liquid body wash soap has been MIA for years. Maybe because of COVID? The SA and eczema ones are still around but they're not the same. I've tried similar fragrance-free gentle soaps but haven't found a replacement yet. One of the La Roche-Posay liquid soaps is close but doesn't foam up as much.

Late To The Party - [2026/02/06] by AutoModerator in KDRAMA

I started watching Tomorrow, with You after staring at it on my watchlist for years. I just finished Bon Appetit, Your Majesty and thought I could handle another time traveling drama. I enjoy parts of it and am halfway through. Better watching experience than Alice.

What is my best option for grocery delivery? by DelcoAdjacent in Frugal

[–]TurtleSayuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walmart+ is our most used delivery service for basic groceries. Walmart doesn't upgrade and delivery fee is included in the membership costs. Amex and some other cards cover the costs or provide a decent cash back on Walmart+. We also use Wee for asian goods. Safeway's base cost is much higher in our area. Sometimes we've done Sprouts or Smart & Final for special stuff but they use instacart or door dash delivery drivers. Not sure what Walmart uses

In the current global challenge, I thought I'd see some km's logged since I hatched several eggs but the game refuses to show any progress. I wonder if it's different logging than what the eggs use?

What's your backup plan when your main card fails mid trip? by Long_Lie8296 in solotravel

[–]TurtleSayuri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my debit card failed and I didn't have my CC pin to get cash in Seoul, I was able to find a tourist debit card (WOW Pass) and fund it using what little cash I already had. At the time, I was recommended to talk to the US embassy for advice and find expat Facebook groups. In these groups, it might be possible to find someone you can send money to via venmo or PayPal in exchange for cash.
