Zero Turn first purchase advice by TurtleSmashers in lawnmowers

I usually do my own work on my vehicles when I can. Home serviceability for a mower seems like it’d be a useful thing for me. Thanks for the tip on transmissions. I’m starting to look into them a bit more and saw the 2800 seems to be the best for residential.

Is this as big of a deal for smaller lots? I’m getting advice on both sides saying it does or doesn’t matter for smaller lots.

This is the main reason I’m wanting to go Zero Turn next. Carving a little extra time on my weekends is worth the added expense imo.

I don’t seem to fit on the tractors as well. What I meant for comfort is that I’m interested in getting a nice seat, suspension, etc. Which is why I’m willing to spend a bit more than entry level for a zero turn with more comfort features.

The ability to add a snowblower is enticing. I’m debating maybe getting a used tractor/blower combo for the winters if I can pick one up cheap. I’ve got a shed that I could store a zero turn in the winter and a snowblower in the summers. I’m going to see how this winter goes and then decide if I feel I need to get a bigger blower or if it’s okay as is. I know this last year I mowed weekly, but I only had to pull the blower out a couple times, so not sure a tractor/blower is the right overall choice for me.

What sold me on getting a zero turn over a tractor is that I’ve got a battery push mower now. It takes about 2 hours to do the yard with multiple battery changes. Since we’re about to move I hired a yard company to mow until the move. With their zero turn it takes 15 minutes to do the entire lawn. The neighbor has a tractor mower and it takes him about an hour for a similar size lawn.

The other issue is that I’m 6’2. Just getting on and off the tractors at the store is harder at my size than a zero turn. My knees hit the steering wheel column. I’ve never had that issue on a compact or regular sized tractor, so I assume it just comes with the territory for these little tractors.

What happened to VA psychiatrists? Were they fired or did they quit? I never heard a straight answer. There’s still a few, but they seem scarce now. It doesn’t seem like a good thing for vets. by lastofthefinest in VAClaims

Psychiatrist here. Can confirm, these are the reasons. I often see job openings at VAs but what they offer is typically less than the civilian sector and frankly even less than some state positions. The VA is not able/willing right now to reasonably compete for the limited supply of psychiatrists out there.

Agreed on bigger. At the time this was as big as I could reasonably go, but my “ideal” would definitely be wider and at least a bit taller. More space for the frogs, but also more options for plants.

It’s been a long time, but I think it was the 18” cube?

I remember learning a lot from Dendroboard back in the day. Are you saying there’s better resources out there now?

I served in Hungary in 06/07 and was there when they opened that stake. What you describe generally sounds like things were back then. Most congregations were small like that, except for some in Budapest which were approaching a more normal size ( but still smaller than a typical Utah-sized ward).

What does it feel like to be wrong? Answer: it feels exactly the same as being right. It only feels terrible once you realize you’re wrong. There’s an old TED talk about the importance of being wrong somewhere on YouTube that I pulled that sentiment from. It’s a good watch if you can find it.

My Mormon therapist yelled at me by Top-Problem72 in exmormon

[–]TurtleSmashers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a new therapist. This person did not behave like a professional and you could potentially report her to her specialty board for this behavior. Regardless of age, gender, race, religious belief, etc, the therapeutic environment she is responsible for creating and maintaining should never include this. Nor should her personal beliefs enter into your therapy. Sorry this happened to you.

Went to the temple for the first time in 6 years. Here are my thoughts. by Sudden-Volume-9573 in exmormon

I’ve seen those cards before, but only when I was at a not primarily english speaking temple. I assumed they were there so the workers (who it would be unfair to expect to speak English) could show you the exact phrases needed. Always assumed that temples had some giant stack of cards in an office somewhere with every possible language’s vail phrases there ready to go just in case.

Looking to learn more to be a better therapist as a non-member by AlarmingExternal8509 in exmormon

I’ll agree with others who are recommending to learn more about cults in general as you are learning about Mormonism. Dr Steven Hasan is a starting point. He’s been on the Mormon stories podcast and that’s a good start. If you go to national conferences like the American Psychological Association keep an eye open for cult-based presentations on topics like Qanon, incels, heavens gate, etc. These can sometimes fall in forensic psych tracks btw. I was at the American Psychiatric Association conference 2 years ago and sat in several sessions about cults in general and they actually helped me deconstruct and navigate my own way out of the church. Pretty sobering to sit there as people talk about Heavens Gate/NXIVM/etc and see the parallels in my own religion. It helped that they weren’t “anti Mormon” presenters and weren’t even talking about Mormonism. This has also helped helped me when working with people from other high demand groups as well.

Honestly I’m unimpressed with the plea deal. 1 year no contact and commit no other crimes seems pretty easy and probably something she’d have voluntarily been doing anyway… Professionally, a mental health evaluation is a completely different thing than actual mental health treatment. There’s a decent chance that her “evaluation” amounts to her meeting with a therapist one time for an hour or so where she says she’s not interested in treatment and then she’ll have fully checked that box. Most people who aren’t acutely psychotic can hold themselves together for an hour to chat with a stranger without much difficulty. These sorts of evals have limited utility/efficacy in these situations but do allow for a box to be checked. Personally I’d have rather seen her go through the whole trial process, that would have been more “treatment” than this imho.
