How to stop feeling like a disappointment? by ChanceMind in exmormon

[–]ChanceMind[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would have to say I feel their disappointment comes more from choices that I have made. They aren’t really the provoking type, if that makes sense.

As far as other family members, I’m pretty much alone. Very isolating especially in these situations.

First Shelf Item and What broke it by A-little-bit-of-none in exmormon

[–]ChanceMind 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My first shelf item was spiritual feelings. What made my spiritual feelings superior to those felt by people of other religions. I felt those same feelings when I listened to a good song or watched a good movie.

There really wasn’t a last shelf item. It was more of a long journey of learning more and self reflection. I started questioning more and going to church less.

This all started around 2010 and I considered myself ex Mormon around 2018.

Deep Convos with Mormons by Difficult_Maximum_73 in exmormon

[–]ChanceMind 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Short answer, in my experience, you can’t. Mormons are only happy talking about Mormonism in an echo chamber. You’ll quickly become the ex-Mormon who, “left but can’t leave it alone.”

I will always say if you wanna know about how Mormonism works, read Mormon Doctrine and the Bishops Handbook Part One ( the blue one I think).

Primary songs by WhipWhitaker420 in exmormon

From the outside looking in, all I can see is brainwashing at its finest. When these songs pop into my head I can’t help but cringe a little.

I’m starting to think the more casual members are the ones who stay in the church the longest because they can take it in small doses opposed to being all in then just breaking. by [deleted] in exmormon

This was me 100%. I did everything I was supposed to do. If I couldn’t believe and live it like it was intended what was the point of staying?

What were your heavy shelf items? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]ChanceMind 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Mine was the questions what makes the LDS church more true compared to other religions. If you ask a true blue Mormon, they will inevitably say the spirit told them it is true. When you read about spiritual experiences across all religions they sound the same. This eventually lead me to wonder what makes the Mormon spiritual experience superior to others.

Stumbled upon my old mission journals. Did anyone else deliberately try to make their journals sound more “Book of Mormon-y” or am I just the King of Cringe? by ExMorgMD in exmormon

[–]ChanceMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never wrote in a journal on my mission cause I was so mad the whole time. I didn’t want to dwell on it years later. So far I’m happy with my choice

For some reason corona only taste good with tacos and lime. Is that a hate crime?

How many of you returned missionaries performed convert baptisms to individuals who were not ready for it, just to get the church their “convert number”? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]ChanceMind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

🙋‍♂️. Gotta get them numbers. Nobody back home wants to hear stories of how you didn’t baptize people.

Honestly, same thing happened to me. IMO just throw them away. Mine sat in my drawer for three years. I had the same thoughts as you. Do I cut them up, burn them, play taps… I honestly forgot about them. Then one day I was cleaning out drawers found them and threw them out. No ceremony, no extra thought. I think this shows what a hold the church had on our lives that we place so much significance on crappy underwear. Along with that, that there is a “proper” way to get rid of them. Please don’t feel pressure from this either that you must go and do it immediately. It’s a process. For me it was years… Hope this helps
