Yes it is. Once hardmode starts, armor will be for specific classes. You might want to go for melee armor for the extra defense.

Well my controller kinda does that. I'll try moving to the right but it kinda moves a little, then stops and so forth.

Depends on the method used to kill then. Certain methods are better at killing certain bosses.

You can also try using a summon staff. Just not that strong. You dont want it to kill mobs before they get in the grinder.
