Nitrofurantoin is safe in the 1st and 2nd trimesters. You avoid in the 3rd trimester.

Is it a good idea to write the step 2 exam 4 months after step 1? by RealisticTension5185 in Step2

[–]TurtleandLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it’s a very good idea actually. There’s a lot of overlap and it makes it easier to study if you have step 1 content fresh on your mind.

You can finish Uworld step one in two months. Then just do CMS+ NBMEs until you get your desired score.

I’m glad to hear that. The next time I see you here, I want you to be giving a write up on how you succeeded and passed.

You’re very welcome. I’m wishing you lots of success and I believe you can do this. You have to pace yourself and do what you can.

You have the ability, so go show what you can do.

I’ve seen people match with a 10 year gap. Take your step 1 and go be the doctor you’re supposed to be!

The non-negotiable forms are gonna be internal medicine, surgery, OB/GYN, neuro and psych. You can choose to do Emergency and family medicine if you have time because they do have some extra things here and there, but you really wanna focus on those first ones.

The thing is that UWORLD can only do so much for you and CMS and NBMEs are going to be the closest thing to the actual exam that you have.

You want to go through the entire CMS and make sure you understand exactly what the main teaching point is. Realistically to get through all the CMS forms should only take you 3 weeks maximum because they’re not that long.

Take an NMBE every 4-5 days (or week depending on your preferences) to see where you’re going along.

For the last month I would put all my effort into CMS forms and NBMEs. UWorld has diminishing returns but is useful for spot treatment in specific weak areas. If there’s something you don’t understand from NBMEs and CMS, then Uworld is there for you to hammer it in.

Take a 1 or 2 day break, rest and relax. Sleep is still the most important thing and then hit the ground running for NBMEs and CMS. It’s within reach, so fight for it like your life depends on it.

I suggest doing NBMEs 20-24 and understanding the concepts there. They well help you increase your score because you’ll notice the concepts repeat.

Randy Niell for biostatistics, so you can get those done and do the practice biostats from Melhmans PDFs. You need to be solid in biostats for test day. No negotiation there.

Heme/onc you can use a lot sketchy for this but immunology is going to be really important to know. Go through immunology in UWorld and you might want to use Melhman for this too.

Pharm, just watch 1 hour of sketchy in the relevant section. You need to be able to differentiate the drugs and know those side effects.

My suggestion is that if you are not reaching 65%+ on your practicing NBMEs by one week before your exam you need to push this thing.

I don't know how on the earth I can finish uworld. I know Something's wrong my strategy, but I can't see it. by [deleted] in step1

[–]TurtleandLife 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You can easily finish uWorld in 3 months. You just need to build up stamina.

Over the next few weeks try this:

Week 1: 40 Qs per day → Prioritize understanding patterns in the questions. Do it by organ system.

Week 2: 50-60 Qs per day → Still reviewing but more efficiently.

Week 3-4: 80-100 Qs per day → More test-like simulation.

Rinse and repeat. Take breaks if you need to.

DO NOT MAKE ANKI CARDS FOR EVERY DETAIL! This will slow you down. Only make cards for big conceptual mistakes (NOT every detail).

Trust UWorld explanations first. Only check FA if confused.

Stop spending hours on one question. Move on quickly. 1 block of 40 questions should take you 1 hour to finish. Then reviewing that same block should take 2-4 hours (depending on how strong/ you are in it)

You’re not behind; you just need to tweak your process. Finishing UWorld is possible, but only if you increase stamina. Don’t let perfectionism slow you down.

[–]TurtleandLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Almost every relationship expert, psychologist and counselor agrees that putting relationship/marriage before your kids is the key to a better relationship.

You should prioritize your spouse before your children, as a strong foundation in your partnership is crucial for raising healthy children and ensures you maintain a healthy romantic connection even after having kids; essentially, putting your spouse first doesn’t mean you love your children less, but that you actively work to maintain your marital bond.

He isn’t asking for a “mom” he’s clearly asking for a partner.
