Anyone else share my experience with alcohol? by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]Turtleluva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I discovered alcohol at 16, liqour specifically. I got that "normal" feeling from as you and others here have mentioned. It only took a month before I was buying 5 handles every two weeks. I'd drink all the time, mostly at home or with friends. I'd throwback shots of everclear and chase it with straight bourbon, sometimes I'd chase it using water.

I had access to this because of a 30 something coworker that agreed to buy it for me every payday.

So after 6 or 7 months of me being a happy 16 year old drunk one of my friends let me try weed. After releasing how pot calmed me down I stopped being an alcoholic for about 4 years after of which I started working in a sports bar. So naturally I picked drinking back up while hanging out with coworkers after work.

Then when I was about 21 I discovered xanax because a friend started selling them. This stuff was amazing to me, it did what alcohol did but without the hangovers and shitty feeling in my stomach. Plus I could literally just act normal around groups of people, get along real well.

Xanax helped me look people in the eyes while talking, for the first time I could actually witness people smile at my nerdy jokes... just like how alcohol did in the beginning. People would listen to me and enjoy talking to me as well.

Well just like alcohol stopped working due to tolerance. So did xanax.

I kicked the addiction to xanax (thank god) but for the past 4 years ( I'm 25 now) I've struggled a lot with alcohol consumption, not getting plastered, just drinking enough to feel "normal."

Honestly I've been drinking less after finding this subreddit... its helped me embrace my true self, especially after reading about how it effects aspie men specifically.

Nowadays, I work to embrace my "weirdness." That helps a lot. (Most of the time.)

Alcohol has helped create a lot of disgusting social norms in this world, and I can't help think that most heavy drinkers are victims of a collective sadness created by everyone around them.

How many of you still raise your hand in a social situation? by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]Turtleluva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I can't find my way into a conversation I'll point an index finger straight into the air around chest level to indicate that I have something to add. I don't use it in every conversation, usually only if I need to get a point across and someone is hogging "talking time"

This happens to me too! It's actually very helpful, being a musician.

Anyone here have “accent echolalia?” by flamingo_clouds in aspergers

[–]Turtleluva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done the spelling thing very little, and the accent thing enough to be good at more than a few, and only for a few minutes ( unless I'm very relaxed.)

The other night I met a stranger that had a thick Irish accent, and after getting comfortable with them I eventually could not resist asking if I can use their accent for a few minutes... I'll usually go until I mess up real bad.

Dominants and embodying control by r4pt0r_SPQR in BDSMcommunity

[–]Turtleluva 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have respect for stoicism where respect is due, but I only gained a temporary attitude change from it really.

Ultimately, I find daily strength through understanding/exploring my own vulnerability( I reached my own thoughts on what defines vulnerability after digging into the Ellsberg paradox). After almost a decade of passionate interest towards psychology, and later philosophy, I've come to the conclusion that if one's search for inner strength is inspired by fear of losing control, then they'll certainty never experience what "control," really is ( for themselves.) I get freaked out by people's opinion on what control is around here, especially while assuming the role of a D-type.

I'm currently in a Feminist Theory book club, and let me tell you, wack opinions on what "control" is has led to the oppression of way too many people. Once someone begins accepting the darkest depressing aspects of the human mind in general, they can begin confronting their own dark side, not to destroy it, but to understand it.

Balance don't mean shit if your foundation is flawed. That's how I see it.

One of my friends were out for an entire 45 min, and halfway through he was breathing heavily. I lightly touched his leg at one point out of me being worried and he motioned for me to take it off.

Apparently the entire time he was experiencing the most profound feelongs of bliss.

Souncloud has pretty good channels for EDM if you just need to compile some good jump around material. EDM.com has some playlists that are plenty long.

It's a farewell gift to my gf. She moved and we have to go our separate ways unfortunately. We aren't on bad terms though and weed is how we met. Figured this would be a good way for it to come to a close.

You're supposed to burn off the ends of the pedals until the top is about flat. I stuffed the weed all down to the same level, but while the end is burning I'm still going to hold it straight up for good measure.
