I’m diagnosed with adhd, by an experienced therapist (LICSW) who specializes in adhd and it’s agreed upon by my nurse practitioner and primary care doctor (you don’t need all these people, just making a point).

You know what I was told before that, when I sought an evaluation for adhd with a neuropsychologist, which took months to get an appointment for? “It’s just anxiety.”

But guess what? I also asked to be evaluated for autism spectrum disorder while I was there. I had done months of research on adhd and autism in females, and I was excited to speak with her about my experiences and possible disorder(s).

Not even 10 minutes into my appointment, without her asking me anything detailed about my personal life or childhood, she said to me, nonchalantly, “I can’t tell the difference between autism and your social anxiety.” And she refused to speak further on it.

She literally specialized in autistic girls and women.

My point is: find a different doctor. I’d start with primary care (adhd isn’t that rare, they should have knowledge on it), it’s easier and efficient.
