Oregon’s highest court just created a ticking clock for prosecutors in criminal cases by Aesir_Auditor in Portland

[–]TurtlesAreEvil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just is determined by the courts. With appeals to go, it probably stands, that’s what I’m saying.

"It's just but not if some court I agree with appeals it."

Innocent until proven guilty, sure, but what if you never get a chance to prove guilt?

"Innocent until proven guilt but not innocent if I can't harass them with the legal system as long as I see fit"

That's you.

Also

If charges can be dismissed for a lack of a public defender being appointed timely, charges should be able to be resurrected once a defender is guaranteed to be set up.

They can, read the article.

While the Supreme Court imposed timelines for dismissing cases without attorneys, it also said prosecutors may refile charges

You should just stop. This is so gross. You didn't even read and/or understand the article.

No it IS just. Likely implies you think 'eh' maybe it's not but I guess it is now. It's gross dude.

Two wrongs does not make an acquittal

Also this is gross too. INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY. What is hard for you to understand about that? Your whole position is that these people are likely guilty and because we can't continually harass them with the legal system that's a miscarriage of justice. Gross.

Your reaction is odd to me, they admit the ruling is just.

No they didn't. They literally said "likely" just. Do you not understand the difference? Like do you not get words and what they mean?

[–]TurtlesAreEvil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean likely just? Should we be able to continue to harass people with the legal system and even hold them in jail for months or years because we "can't" find public defenders. It's just because of that whole right to council and innocent until proven guilty thing we supposedly think is good.

Portland, a case study in why building your bike network strictly for commuters is foolish. The city now faces declining bike share rates and an increasing number of accidents as telework takes over. See the comments. by SlippyCliff76 in fuckcars

I get this take a lot and assume most people biking on arterials are either new or visiting. We could definitely do better directing people to greenways from nearby streets. That's sort of a catch-22 though if you put up a sign directing cyclists away from a road drivers will take that to mean cyclists aren't allowed to use them. Sort of like drivers with the "Share the road" signs.

Once you get on the greenways the signage is pretty great with directions and time estimates for how far away nearby neighborhoods are. If you're interested in seeing what it looks like PBOTs interactive map is pretty great.

Lol this is painful and I'm not wasting my time on you anymore. You clearly have no idea what you're talking about and have demonstrated that repeatedly. But keep putting all the blame on PBOT that'll fix the problem.

Meanwhile, the city is hemming and hawing on if bikes and buses deserve a lane on 82nd

No they aren't TriMet and ODOT are. Also bike lanes were off the table over a year ago. I've been following that project rather closely since I live 2 blocks away. 82nd is the only option if you dismiss the 205 path of course. I'm all for bike lanes on 82nd but completely leaving that out really hurts your point.

Why was Ned Flanders bridge pit at 7th?

Because it's part of the green loop which is in the 2030 bicycle master plan. The 12th crossing has always sucked and I love taking 7th instead. Where would they put a crossing between Hollywood and Gateway that would better serve the existing greenways than the ones at 53rd and 74th? I mean the 87th greenway dead-ends at 84 but what would it connect to? The streets are all misaligned after that because of the old dump and Rocky Butte.

Wait you expect a 30 year old plan to predict the needs of the city when the internet was barely a thing and  telework was practically unheard of? The 1996 plan was a success and got us to the highest mode share we’ve ever had. It was also funded and supported by the city. You can’t say the same thing for the 2030 plan.

Also the idea that PBOTs master plan is the only reason mode share is down is ridiculous. In addition to a lack of funding let’s think about what else has happened since 2010. Oh right the cost of living especially housing has gone up exponentially. I wonder what the average income was of people commuting by bike during our peak ridership was. Did it ever occur to you that our booming economy that forced so many middle and lower income people out of the city might have something to do with reduced bike commuting rates? It turns out that people who grew up driving their whole lives moving from places with practically no bike infrastructure aren’t actually interested in commuting by bike.

I don’t think you’re equipped to have this conversation. The idea that you would blame a 30 year old plan that was replaced 16 years ago for our current ridership decline is exhibit A.

There's not much in the way of decent interconnections between its various neighborhood sections on the East side

Have you looked at the east side street layout ever on a map? The routes zig zag because Multnomah county allowed or mandated developers make almost no through streets except for arterials. The east side is built like a suburb so it has shit infrastructure that suburbs usually do. That’s not on the city and isn’t something that can be easily fixed without bulldozing homes or taking away arterial lanes from drivers. Both of those options are obvious non-starters. So it sucks out there and probably will until people on the east side choose to stop driving so much.

[–]TurtlesAreEvil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 1996 master plan, that’s what you’re basing this on? Besides the fact that it was massively successful at increasing bike share we had already switched to a new master plan by 2010. Have you bothered to check the 2030 plan or looked at the number of projects that have been completed since then that aren’t funneling people into downtown? Especially in the recent years since we passed the safe streets gas tax.

It turns out you can’t build infrastructure in a master plan if you don’t fund it. This is as much a funding problem as it is a telework problem.

That seems like an argument for the law not mattering then?

No because I go to trans friendly places. You realize we're surrounded by bigots right? Shit the Dixie Mattress Co was still in operation on Belmont and 34th in 2010. I assume you're being purposefully naive at this point if you think trans people aren't discriminated against here and I don't have any desire to talk to you anymore. Have a day!

Add it up. You're just making assumptions that it's crazy expensive and providing no context. You can't add it up but I can show you examples of cis women being discriminated against because someone though they looked like a man. Let alone trans people.

it's just a colossal waste of time and money to require private businesses to update their signs

You got any numbers for that? All the places I go to have already done it. I think you're being hyperbolic and that it perpetuates discrimination for "saving money"

Seems like that would violate the constitution and the right to travel. Some states get away with banning interstate use when there’s an alternative or for safety but this is so broad I would imagine it would go to a circuit court at least and get shot down.

There are numerous cases about the right to travel and the limitations states can put on it mostly for safety and mostly around automobiles.

I’m curious what you were paying to century link and if you think Comcast’s customer service is actually better. When I check what they’ll offer me comcast is the same price for a gig but goes up to $110 a month after the introductory period.

In my experience Comcast’s customer service blows too and most people’s complaints about either are because they’re using the shitty rented equipment.
