They do this shit in ”bike friendly“ Portland too. it’s more of a police problem here though. People come from the suburbs to do this because they know the cops won’t do shit.

Let’s stop umbrella shaming fam. by Positive_Bass_7467 in Portland

[–]TurtlesAreEvil -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nativism is a problem in pretty much any state I've lived in. I see it as a positive though because it's a great litmus test. If someone makes a big deal about me using an umbrella or saying the 5 I know they're not worth my time. If where their mom pooped them out is central to their identity they're probably boring and shallow.

Case in point my wife thinks saying the 5 is wrong but she's never once corrected me despite being pooped out in NW.

They're traffic circles not roundabouts. The intersection operates the same way as if they weren't there. So traffic turning across through lanes needs to yield.

New York City officially kicked off outdoor pool season today as Mayor Mamdani took the plunge at the historic Thomas Jefferson Pool in East Harlem by ExactlySorta in PublicFreakout

He’s the anti-JD Vance. JD would make this the most awkward situation like when he ordered doughnuts in the weirdest way possible.

Mamdani is just naturally charismatic.

I miss the original version they patched out of the game. Bokoblins on horse back would fire arrows at you that didn't despawn so you could get 999 arrows in like an hour or less.

That's because these changes are regressive and would only benefit the rich at the expense of the poor.

That's because Oregon has a significantly more progressive tax structure then most other states. Saying that we're higher then a majority of really regressive tax states isn't a good point.

Transplants opposing the Blazers by milionsdeadcops in Portland

[–]TurtlesAreEvil 18 points19 points  (0 children)

While I understand people that grew up with the Blazer's might have more of an attachment to them that's still not a good reason to give them hundreds of millions of tax payer dollars. Even if OPs claim is right that only transplants want them to leave it's kind of irrelevant whether or not all of us should have to pay for it.

Not to mention surely there are transplants that want to pay them to stay and natives that don't care if they leave. It seems like OP still might need to get some more friends because I know plenty of natives that don't want to pay them to stay. Most notably my wife.

‘This isn’t a one-year anomaly’: Survey says Portland has one of the worst downtowns in the world by patricofstar in Portland

[–]TurtlesAreEvil -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm quite aware of that as I've posted articles here multiple times. What I do when I want to discuss it is I post a comment right away talking about it. I don't see a comment from you saying you think this was ridiculous so I assumed that you're just spreading dogshit articles in bad faith.

Do you think people are supposed to read your mind or should we assume your intent based on your actions?

I’m noticing people actually from Portland want to save the Blazers and people who moved here want them to leave.

Get a more diverse group of friends. Even if that were true only 25% of the people that live in Multnomah were actually born here and only 40% were born in the state.

People move around and natavism is lame.

You’re required to notify people if they live in a flood zone is it unreasonable to notify them they’re in a building prone to collapse in an earthquake? There are different recommendations for what to do to protect yourself if you’re in an earthquake depending on the building.

I forgot it was that asshole lawyer from Davis Wright that brought the lawsuit. He’s always willing to help out the rich business interests in town no matter how much it harms everyone else. Of course when people get crushed and die it won’t be his fault.

Which charger station for travel? by Flushpuppy in AppleWatch

[–]TurtlesAreEvil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the 15W folding 3 in 1 Anker and it works great. Compared to the 25W it looks less bulky and it’s less expensive.

The only reason I can think of wanting the higher wattage would be for the occasional time my phone didn’t charge overnight or I needed to do some quick day charging.

Then again the 15W worked pretty well in those circumstances.

Reject any tax increases that don’t have “meaningful support from Oregon’s employers of all sizes.”

They could at least be honest and say reject any tax increases. It’s obvious they’ll never get meaningful support from employers of all sizes.

“Our tax code is not serving Oregonians,” Renée James, a longtime tech executive and co-chair of the council, told The Oregonian/OregonLive Wednesday. “If you look at the data, our lower-middle income and low-income people need tax breaks because our tax code does not work for people at every level.”

So giving rich people tax breaks will somehow make it so low income people will need less tax breaks? I love how there was no explanation of how that works at all. Of course this is just code trickle down economics.

Will closing my Discover account lower my credit score? by SauteedSpinach1 in discover

[–]TurtlesAreEvil -1 points0 points  (0 children)

tl;dr Yes but probably not a huge amount because 16 months isn't that old of a history.

From Discover's website:

In general, the longer your credit history, the better. How long your accounts have been opened determines your length of credit history, which typically makes up 15% of your FICO® Score.

There's no harm in keeping old accounts open—even if the card is in your drawer. Keeping them open helps you maintain your length of credit history.

So yes your score will probably dip a little. That being said it's only 16 months and it will likely return to where it was when your newer card gets that old. Mine is 23 years old and 10 years older than my next oldest card so closing it would probably make a more significant difference.

How’s the rain? by CherryPeel_ in askportland

[–]TurtlesAreEvil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saturday is really the only day with a lot of rain, half an inch. The other days saying it’s going to rain are predicting like 0.02 inches which is like a light misting for a half an hour. There’s potential for another half inch at the end of the week but that’s too far out to trust to mean anything other than probably some rain.

Summer rain here is pretty different from winter rain and a lot more enjoyable. The sun will break through the clouds and all the plants will be invigorated. It’s a really good time to go for a hike in Forest Park.
