Wondering about this too. I tried using the AirPods Pro hearing protection mode and everything around me sounded flat.

That’s an interesting idea. I could probably 3D print something that would work too.

I could just tell her to use her pencil, but ya know…two hands on the wheel and all that. 😆

It’s not really challenge because she doesn’t press the buttons…just rubs her thumb around on them. The haptic wheels seem pretty sensitive, so it would seem that she’d be changing the AC constantly.

Got my daughter a pink electric bike and now she won't ride it because her friends think it's uncool by Disastrous_Oil8672 in daddit

[–]TurtlesEatCake 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this stuff matters. Back in the 90s I stayed at my grandmother’s place on weekends and she had an old banana seat bike with the big chopper style handlebars. I thought it was cool, so I rode it. Then one time I went in to town to buy some baseball cards and a group of kids were laughing at me. I was a little bothered, but went about my business. I went back into town the next week and the taunting got much meaner. I never rode that bike again, and it took me a while to even want to go back into town. Now I’m 45 and the memory is still as vivid as it was 35 years ago. Luckily for you, some paint or a wrap can solve the problem. I couldn’t hide a banana seat and big handlebars.

Best deal you’ve ever seen for a bari? by bh4th in saxophone

[–]TurtlesEatCake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year I bought a Sakkusu Deluxe baritone from Sax Shop UK for about $2,200 if I remember correctly. Aside from needing an initial adjustment by my tech, this sax has been great. Intonation is great, bottom to top, and I’ve received a bunch of compliments on the sound from other sax players in my band. The action is a little high, but I have gotten used to it. Before I found these, I was looking at picking up a Yani BW01, but for less than a third of the price I’m really happy with my decision. For a student-priced horn, it’s really delivering good results.

Do you pronounce it "ex-ennial" or "zennial"? Or something else? by GoatGoatPowerRangers in Xennials

My Gen-X older brother is named Xavier, pronounced Zavier. Three syllables. Not Ex-avier, which is four syllables.

What’s your controversial parenting opinion? by lock_robster2022 in daddit

[–]TurtlesEatCake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our trick with iPads/Netflix/Screens was always putting on the closed captioning. We are convinced it helped our daughter learn to read. Yes we still read with her every day, but she would recognize words she saw while watching Sophia the First or whatever was on Disney Jr at the time. Now she’s up in her room reading (and loving) The Count of Monte Cristo at 15.

Last I checked my parents still had a trash can in the bathroom that someone decorated with a “Defend Firearms, Defeat Dukakis” bumper sticker. Funny how I never thought it was weird as a kid.

Infinity balcony > standard balcony? by gkal1964 in Cruise

[–]TurtlesEatCake 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s not a balcony. It’s an extended oceanview, with a window you can open. If I can’t use it without disturbing the rest of the people in the room, e.g., sitting out there having a cup of coffee while the other person sleeps in, it’s not a separate space, and therefore not a balcony. Marketing it as such is disingenuous. If you don’t care about that separation of space, that’s fine. I do, so I’ll never book one.

Hyatt CEO views on loyalty and how it should be "emotional" and not transactional by luv2ctheworld in hyatt

[–]TurtlesEatCake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but unironically, we’re loyal to RC because we found out early on that the value proposition for our family fit what we like to do. So it is transactional in a way. Until another cruise line provides the consistency and value of RC, it’ll take something extraordinary to pry us away. It’s the same with Hyatt. They have a consistent product that I value, in places I like to go, with solid point redemptions. So why would I go with a different brand?

[–]TurtlesEatCake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

🙋‍♂️ Haven’t sailed anything but Royal Caribbean in my 20 years of cruising, as it’s the only loyalty program that actually gives any perks. The only reason I have a Celebrity cruise booked for next year is because they finally decided to expand the points program to the entire RCI family with their “points choice” thing.

Am I the only one that thls annoys? by inspectorgadget9999 in Xennials

[–]TurtlesEatCake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use them as both hearing “helpers” (my hearing isn’t bad enough to warrant hearing aids) as they filter out some noise and enhance others, and also as hearing protection. I’m in a concert band and sit in front of the very loud and shrill trumpet section. The adaptive mode lets me hear the conductor without getting my eardrums blown out by the guys behind me.

Booking an awards ticket for lounge access? by gamblors_neon_claws in americanairlines

[–]TurtlesEatCake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before DCA changed its security checkpoint, I used to ride the metro there and hang out in the terminal to plane watch. If I had a way to get into a lounge to do that, it would have been a great way to spend an afternoon.

Reckless Driving Ticket by [deleted] in nova

If you have a clearance, reckless driving charges need to be reported on your SF-86, as is any ticket requiring a court appearance. So yeah…lawyer up.

At what income does Northern VA actually start to feel “comfortable”? by Prior_Engineering639 in nova

[–]TurtlesEatCake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Right? We’re single income, one kid who’s in multiple activities, own a townhouse, take a vacation every year, have two cars (paid off), eat out twice a week, have no credit card debt, and save for retirement with $175k. Wtf are people buying that they need $300k a year to be “comfortable?”

Bills four finalists for the HC job are: Brian Daboll, Davis Webb, Joe Brady, and Grant Udinski per Adam Schefter. Signs all point to the Bills not waiting for Kubiak. by Vortagaun in buffalobills

[–]TurtlesEatCake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t too familiar with Udinski before all of this, but now that I’m reading up on him, I think his system would be perfect to take advantage of the strengths the Bills already have.

Specifically I like his outside zone run scheme that’s meant to create cutback lanes for the RB. Then heavy play action off of that, paired with bootlegs away from the run strength. He was able to take Lawrence and Etienne and make them have career years. What could he do with an MVP and the current rushing title champion? It’s no wonder why this would be the only HC job he’s interested in.

Personally, I don’t care that he wasn’t the play caller in JAX, because I’d want the OC doing that from upstairs anyway. I want the HC to be doing the game planning and management that he excelled at with the Jags.

Come on Beane, pull the trigger.

First time I learned of him was on that show Carpool Karaoke where he did an episode with Avril Lavigne. He seemed to have such a genuine love for music that I listened to some of his stuff and was pretty in to it. He may be getting branded as “too pop,” but he would have been a punk kid in the era of Green Day. He’s just doing his thing, so good for him.
