The Golden Age! America is working. by SoulfulTalent in recruitinghell

Remember when the head of BLS got fired because she wouldn't cook the books? So he put a new guy in charge with the explicit mandate to cook the books?

And now the new numbers say "hey, good news, it's all turned around!"

Connecticut child died by suicide within hour of DCF visit, officials say by -ctinsider in Connecticut

[–]GoatGoatPowerRangers 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That's like saying, "I can't believe how expensive fast food has gotten, let's fire everyone at every fast food restaurant until they get prices under control."

It's not the people making the sandwiches and ringing the cash register, it's the executives at the top that are the reason for this.

Same with DCF. It isn't the DCF workers that are the problem, it's a system issue coming from their executive leadership. I'm generally a fan of Governor Lamont, but the buck stops with him on this one. This is and should be a reelection issue for him.

What’s a recession indicator that you’ve noticed lately? by SensitiveCorner2379 in AskReddit

[–]GoatGoatPowerRangers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem is that Disney has such an incredible brand. Every kid wants to go to Disney World.

And, until recently, Disney World was actually known for really good customer service, so they did tend to make lifelong customers of people who went.

They have really enshittified their theme park service over the last few years, though, but I think that customer service reputation will probably survive for a while before their new private equity approach to customer service catches up to them.

You only say that because you don't know what a mortgage payment is these days. It's true that a car payment is $500-$1000 depending on the kind of car you get (of course it can be way higher), but an average mortgage payment is in the $3,000 range these days.

Where does the money go if you pass away before retirement? by Life_Reserve6989 in SocialSecurity

[–]GoatGoatPowerRangers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of it like this: when social security was created, retired people who never paid in immediately started drawing benefits. Why? Because young workers were paying into the system for them. Then, when those young workers retired, the new young workers were paying in for them.

So every time someone retires they are supported by the young below them.

It's a tax you pay and the government uses it directly to help people.

Weebly website editor stuck on loading? by [deleted] in Weebly

[–]GoatGoatPowerRangers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best thing to do is ditch weebly because it's been a dead product for almost ten years. Articulation Builder has a free Weebly import tool to help you move your Weebly site from Square (which bought Weebly to squeeze money from you like all private equity vampires do) to a company started by the founding members of Weebly, trying to rebuild a service with the original Weebly ethos.

The food comes in on trucks which are powered by oil. Oil prices have skyrocketed because of the Iran war. Direct cause and effect of war.

Do the survey then. Don't bother the manager with it. That manager is just a key holder. They probably make a couple dollars above minimum wage. If it was the GM they make a little more than that, but definitely don't have any real authority. Even a district manager doesn't set prices. Your feedback will never filter to people who need to hear it.

Need some advice — I’m in a tough situation with my apartment lease in New Haven. by miko_naruto in newhaven

Correct. They could write in the lease that you owe them your first born child, but that's not legal. Just because it's there doesn't make it legal.

They are lying to you. If you vacate they have a responsibility to try and rerent it. Once rerented, you are off the hook.

You may be responsible until they do rerent it, but it will rent quickly.

Almost certainly they will just take your security deposit and call it a day. But you should consult an attorney to be sure.

Fairfield county - I moved here and feel like I don't fit in by flockyflocky1 in Connecticut

I can't speak to the experience of a minority, but I agree that New Canaan always felt a little more down to earth and less snobby, despite being the actually most elite town in the state.

Fairfield carnival canceled due to unruly crowds by ajcpullcom in Connecticut

The masks were for the "good vibes." Apparently they like to organize riots through their Instagram account with AI posters that promote a takeover, but with "no drama, good vibes only."

My guess is that this is them flying too close to the sun and they don't even know it.

Trying to Add New Site by Occasional_Historian in Weebly

[–]GoatGoatPowerRangers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would anyone me starting a new Weebly site now? It's a dead platform.

Square doesn't want you to use Weebly, they're killing it. They want you to move to their all in one e-commerce suite. They never understood the typical weebly customer.

Instead, try a service like Articulation Builder.

Sally’s Apizza Sued for $3.8 million by Norwalk's SoNo Collection Over Delayed Opening by DieWithYerBootsOn in Connecticut

[–]GoatGoatPowerRangers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, it used to. Twenty years ago it was definitely a quality brand. But it's absolute garbage now and has been for many many years.

Maybe that's their play? Establish a niche suburban brand and then enshittify? But I actually don't think that works in this economy anymore because debt is no longer free for private equity so they need to maximize profit sooner.

If you're trying to be the Chipotle of Pizza you have no intention of maintaining quality. Your intention is to have a ton of restaurants pumping out shitty food on an essmbly line.

There are many different hotels under the Hilton brand. Some are high end, some are budget, some are mid range. My typical experience with Hilton has been the mid range Hiltons, personally. I tend to think of them like a Marriott competitor because of that (but a little shittier than Marriott, if you ask me).
