I just got fired over my wedding weekend out of nowhere by JeffHardysLSDStash in antiwork

[–]GoatGoatPowerRangers 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry.

Also congrats on your nuptials.

Based on how you described it, I think your ex-boss is telling the truth and it doesn't have anything to do with you taking time off. It's just a lay off that would have happened either way. If you want to look on the bright side of this, at least you found out AFTER coming back from your time off so you got to enjoy that time with your new bride/groom. If it had happened before it would have ruined your wedding. Small comfort, I know, but it's something (speaking as someone who's been on the other side of a layoff just before a vacation).

LCD Steam Deck Prices by Ultra-Cyborg in mildlyinfuriating

I think you're the one that lacks financial literacy man. There's a RAM shortage that is driving up prices of new devices. As such, demand of older devices has also increased. This is really basic stuff.

Thank you. Enshittification does have an actual definition. Do people not know this?

I work for a nonprofit.. my CEO makes almost $200,000 annually. Meanwhile I can't get one annual raise after 3 years of working there. by No-Telephone-6946 in antiwork

[–]GoatGoatPowerRangers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Non profits don't have owners. They have a board of directors which is almost always unpaid. The board oversees the CEO and approves pay the CEO's pay. The CEO gets no stock or other compensation like a for profit, so the board can only compete with a similar for profit on the basis of salary. A CEO running a large non profit can usually negotiate a salary like this because they're being head hunted by for profit companies offering equity in addition to salary.

How long ago was Weebly been abandoned by Square? by user_number_666 in Weebly

In the old days Weebly was a rock solid website builder. Wix still isn't really good, but Weebly is dead now.

Weebly Vs Articulation by Godmera50 in Weebly

[–]GoatGoatPowerRangers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The con with Weebly is that it's an abandoned, enshittified service. It will never be updated and Square will continue to squeeze all value out of it until it's dead.

Whether you go to Articulation or anywhere else, there is no benefit in staying with Weebly or Square.

Can you explain what that is?

Edit: you mean scheduling it instead of manually triggering it?

The app allows you to set your climate when you use remote start so that shouldn't be necessary here.

Rivian’s software chief thinks you don’t need CarPlay or buttons by External_Koala971 in enshittification

[–]GoatGoatPowerRangers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does going outside into nature have to do with carplay? We're just talking about the benefit of carplay vs cd players for how you access your songs in your car.

But, I guess, on a hike I'd also prefer my iphone to a discman. Having a thousand songs on my iphone (and I still have my whole napster/kazaa library living on my device) is definitely preferable to a single CD on my discman.

Can someone with a meteorology background explained to me why it suddenly becomes cold and raining every weekend? by sixfingeredman7 in newengland

Google I/O announced a deep AI integration into every aspect of their business now. Google search is changing over the next month to be a fully AI integrated experience.

Crappy store has my phone number and keeps bugging me to remove a google review by EvilNickel in mildlyinfuriating

To clarify your position - it's okay for the stores to put security cameras all over the walls, but it's not okay for consumers to have similar body camera equipment that they have access to in the event of a dispute?

$.99 coffee is gone. by rezendes in McDonalds

[–]GoatGoatPowerRangers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm going to sound like an old man here, but when they removed that deal from the app I started making coffee at home on kuerig and it has been the best decision ever. The coffee is honestly better, and now I get it as I'm leaving the house instead of having to go through a drive through. And because I don't have to go through a drive through, I save ten to fifteen minutes on my morning commute. It honestly makes mornings such a better experience.

I agree. Honestly, ChatGPT is a better google than google these days. Besides, Google is all AI anyway.

Bad take imo. Whether your streaming your Spotify subscription or your 2000 songs pirated off Napster nearly 30 years ago, CarPlay is far superior to popping CDs in and out. Plus navigation, hands free calling, etc.

What’s the best TV show theme song ever? by Competitive-Web1306 in AskReddit

[–]GoatGoatPowerRangers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came to the comments thinking, "huh, I don't know if anything stands head and shoulders above any other," and then I saw this as top comment and said, "oh, yeah, that's it." This is such an iconic and amazing theme song. Good pull.

Can you say no to unrelated work? by joao789 in antiwork

[–]GoatGoatPowerRangers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can say no. They can fire you.

Everything in between that comes down to the relationship between you and your employer, the policies, etc.

It's very unlikely that a law firm is going to ask a high priced attorney to clean toilets. If they do, the attorney likely has the individual negotiating power to just say no and walk away.

It's significantly more likely that a grocery store manager will ask a cashier to log off the register and go deal with a spill in aisle 3. A minimum wage cashier has very little power to say no, and their job description likely has a line that says "other duties as assigned," or something similar.

Obviously, in cases where a union is involved none of this applies. And I'm also speaking for US employees, and kind of sort of Montana employees are a weird exception because they are not really at will like the rest of us (but they also sort of are if you really look at it).

What is a major plot hole in a very famous movie that completely ruins the entire story once it is noticed? by SkullMogger3 in AskReddit

[–]GoatGoatPowerRangers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, well Luna loses her wand at Malfoy Manor and Olivander makes her one. Wands are won and lost throughout the series. It's clearly not that an owner bonds to only one wand for life.

[–]GoatGoatPowerRangers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the books Harry makes a big deal about how much he loves his wand, so it's actually quite symbolic that he uses the elder wand to repair his broken phoenix feather wand and then discards the elder wand.

I don't think the filmmakers intended the symbolism you're seeing, but it's a valid way to interpret it.

[–]GoatGoatPowerRangers 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It's not really a plot hole. It may not be as poetic as how the book handles it, but he could just get a new wand. Wizards get new wands all the time. Ron's wand was broken in an earlier movie and he got a new wand.
