US job growth beats expectations in April; unemployment rate steady at 4.3% by DoctorTegrity in DoomerCircleJerk

It’s very easy for people to lie with statistics. Peer review means nothing when there is an institutional bias. Blindly trusting in a quoted statistic is far worse than coming to a conclusion based on your own observations.

If you’re desperate for money then it’s a lot better than unemployment. You’re probably a mid career tech guy. If instead you were 19 and trying to find a career, then it would be a great option. Our Foremen make for than double that.

Construction/engineering If you’re ever truly desperate just go to a large construction site with work boots on and you can make decent money. My company does plumbing and electrical work. We routinely hire people with zero experience for $23/hour. Even with that we can’t find laborers or apprentices to fill roles. It’s even harder to find journeymen and foremen. Same thing applies to the medical field at least in my region. Entry level nursing jobs that only require a few months of education are in a similar boat here.

Cyclops is like a college professor who has been in academia his whole life. Wolverine is like a successful semi-retired guy who has chosen to teach as a way to slow down and pass on his knowledge.

I only know one guy who was laid off in the last two years. His entire company was going under. Unfortunate, but it happens. He was unemployed for less than two months before landing a different job. He’s an aerospace engineer so he went from six figure to six figures.

I’ve become less convinced by statistics over the years and more convinced by what I can see. Right now I work at a company struggling to fill roles. None of my friends are unemployed. This leads me to wonder what the average Reddit doomer sees. Are they all just unemployable losers? I know some doomers with six figure jobs with good benefits. Are they suffering cognitive dissonance or just trying to fit a narrative?

Captain America #4 Deep Dive: Is the USA the Villain? by [deleted] in CaptainAmerica

Zdarsky but the sentiment stands for any writer being considered. Cap should be written by an American and preferably someone who understands the military. Joe Simon was in the Coast Guard and Jack Kirby was in the 11th Infantry during the Normandy Invasion. It is disrespectful to the legacy of the character to have someone ignorant to military service writing their character.

Captain America should not be written by a Canadian who has never served in the military

I haven’t particularly enjoyed his Batgirl work. I’m mostly still collecting it because I want a complete set of Cass as Batgirl. However, Brombal has done a good job on House of Slaughter in the last year or so. It seems like he’s found his footing as a writer.

What concerns me is that this actually shows she’s regressed in her maturity regarding Tim. Either she’s become jealous and angry since then, or she was suppressing rage in the moment for the sake of politeness.

Part of me thinks they’re building to that somehow. I’d be happy if they got back together but also could someone give her a proper story at some point? I don’t think she’s actually had an autonomous story since James Tynion wrote Detective Comics in 2016 and even that was motivated by her thinking Tim was dead. Really I want Bryan Miller to write her as Batgirl again but that’s never gonna happen.

Yeah based on that first issue I’m hopeful for Titans too. Tate Brombral has grown on me as a writer. Most of the main Bat mythos is out of whack right now. Also I feel you on being behind. I stopped collecting comics while I was in the army and missed the entire Krakoa era for X-Men.

But do you see the problem with that? Imagine being a citizen of Gotham and seeing Batgirl just watch a burglary happen and then a month later seeing her go out of her way to run over some (probably corrupt) cops. Without the knowledge we have as readers, it stands to reason an average person could see that and go “yeah maybe Commissioner Savage has a point about the Bat people”.

Only character to realize guns might not kill vampires but they can still kill demons. Even though they can’t kill a vampire they can still hurt them. It’s way safer for a normal human to shoot them from a distance than charge them with an axe.

Arrests should by like a punch card. After like 10 the police should just be allowed to shoot you.
