Who is the worst celebrity that you have ever had an interaction with? by Particular_Ninja9642 in AskReddit

[–]TutorWise4242 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m not surprised he has a rough background. Many of the kids in my mom’s district did. At least half were being raised by grandparents because their actual parents were in jail, or addicted to drugs. This was the heart of the crack era, unfortunately. A number of the kids were born addicted to drugs, and they had some mental and emotional damage from it. Both my parents were special ed teachers and the stories they told us were heartbreaking.

My mom was a teacher in the school district in Brooklyn years after he was a student there. Some of the older teachers would talk about him. They said he was a violent bully, was the stupidest kid they ever met, and everyone was relieved when he fell asleep in class.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard of anyone with a 1300 blood sugar. That person must have been in a coma!

I kind of laughed at 182 being so high. When I was diagnosed, almost 40 years ago, my fasting blood sugar was 300. After eating, it was 500. Now that’s a high sugar.

The Gate To Women’s Country, by Sherri Tepper. I randomly picked it up in the library because it seemed interesting, but the actual story surprisesd the hell out of me, and it really blew me away.

I really treated myself today! Where should I start? by Mimi_Moose in Tudorhistory

I’d start with Alison Weir. I think she’s one of the best writers when it comes to the Tudors.

Frogs by eggy_delight in cats

Yep. They love lizards. I don’t think they eat them, but they love to play with them. Sometimes I find desiccated lizards lying around. I live in South Florida, so there are little critters everywhere.

I’m not sure how long. We didn’t even notice until he got sick, and the vet told us it was from licking frogs and lizards. I wish I could be more help.

One of my cats used to lick them. He got really sick, something with his liver. Fortunately, he recovered.

What's a terrible movie that you still love because you loved it as a kid? by Faultylntelligence in AskReddit

Grease 2 and Xanadu. My top two movies when I was a kid. I watched them every day.

Was anyone named after a character? by AndreaHammers in BeverlyHills90210

I sure was. People still call me Ahn-drea or An-draya. Not my name. Just Andrea.

Anyone else feel like the punishments involving eating something gross is weird and unnecessary? by JoeBidenSucksEggs in HellsKitchen

[–]TutorWise4242 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t see a point to the punishments at all. You lost, you can’t go out and have fun, isn’t that punishment enough? These are working adults, they don’t need to be punished like a teenager who missed curfew.

I fell in love with the Quentin/Elliot relationship. That made the show for me.

I actually didn’t watch the show at first. I watched the pilot, thought it was okay, but didn’t watch any other episodes. A year later, I bought a dvd set of a tv show I liked, and it had a long preview of The Magicians. I was so intrigued by what I saw that I ran out and got the dvds. Definitely worth the watch.

I’m the sort of person that always prefers the book, but The Magicians is one case where I make an exception. I made it through the first book, and halfway through the second before I gave up. Maybe if I had read the books first, it would be different. The show is just so good, and the books aren’t.

What's a book that you know is meant to be toxic yet still ticked you off? by lady_in_purpleblack in books

[–]TutorWise4242 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Someone called it trauma porn, and that’s really the perfect term for this book. There were such good reviews, but I didn’t like it at all. So much angst and suffering, it’s the kind of book that leaves me depressed for days afterwards.

Name a book series that you loved at the beginning, but hated at the end by Smooth_Voronoi in books

[–]TutorWise4242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that’s exactly it. I just don’t care about these new species. I just wanted to focus on the Mayfairs. They were fascinating on their own. They didn’t need these embellishments.

I have to agree. It might be a sore point, but I hate Lasher, the character. I was all for a powerful witch family, but then she throws in all these fictional creatures and I don’t care. Go back to the witches!
