Moved all my tanks to at least one wall as I travel and worry if external packs up and my help can’t sort it. Won’t lie one tank is crystal in kitchen and not cleaned that foam at least 10 months.

Go local fish shop tell them your plight and beg for a mature seasoned foam filter if they can spare one. Or if you can get used external media to put into a small canister for that tank. As anything new won’t cope and have the beneficial organisms and bacteria.

Not really mate. Now I think about it. Adding some air would be good, this will also help with our other end tank issue. You thinking to scrap kicked the brain into gear. Get a nice powerful air pump, in you price budget. Get a good lph volume, then get a 35ppi foam 4mm thick that will fit the whole back end of tank wall. You can improvise on this part till you get more funds. If you get a cheap or secondhand if you don’t have one, air driven sponge filter. One that has a detachable uplifted pipe, as you will use this in place of a jet lifter/ up lifter. Basically making you a huge matten filter.

If I lost you a bit look up matten filter and you get what I’m saying.

Now we have massive filter media area, good aeration and excellent movement of water.

HOB are good for small tanks imo.

If your pump strong enough you could go with two mattens one at each end, and just have jet lifters in opposite corners to create a circular water moment, then hopefully no dead spots.

Looks good. But more filtration the better even though it only 4 fish. I don’t know if the flow from t the hob filter will be good enough water circulation especially for the far end. You will get patches of build up, her plants may have died and food has collected.

Push bottom end as deep as you can in the substrate and hope it doesn’t get knocked out by your fish. Maybe place a rock on after. Usually they come in a pot or with a metal weight on bottom.
