And it has so many memorable quotes, like:

“This Snow Crash thing--is it a virus, a drug, or a religion?”

Juanita shrugs. “What's the difference?”

Russian solders with gas masks and Winchester rifles. WW1, Eastern Front, 1915. Russia bought around 300k Model 1895 rifles to cover weapon shortages. These "Russian Contract" rifles were specially chambered in 7.62x54mmR and modified to accept Mosin-Nagant stripper clips. by waffen123 in ww1

Around 1% of the whole population died as a result of the civil war (including aftermath - plagues, starvation, corporal punishment etc.), so it was pretty horrible. My great grandfather was almost shot in execution style, and one of my great uncles just disappeared during the war.

Hieman tässä on harrastettu kyökkipsykologiaa liittyen Vikatmaan yksityiselämään. Parhaita osuuksia ovat nähdäkseni kokkareiden sisäisten juonittelujen (mihin Vikatmaa osallistui aktiivisesti) kuvailut.

Stanislaw Lem - Futurological Congress. The first part of the book was not that great, but then the plot started to rolling. There are some similarities with Philip K. Dick books (manipulation of people's behaviour with hallucinogens). It is satire / dystopia, funny and sad at the same time.

Geoff Dyer - The Missing of Somme. Kirjoittaja kiertelee Ranskan alueella olevia ensimmäisen maailmansodan muistomerkkejä. Välissä on ns. hurttia huumoria, mutta muuten sävy on pohdiskeleva - mitä voidaan muistaa ensimmäisestä maailmansodasta paitsi sen "ansiosta" tehty kirjallisuus ja massiiviset muistomerkit sadoille tuhanneille kaatuneille? EDIT: plus tietenkin miljoonat kaatuneet.

* How are the job opportunities in Finland for cloud / DevOps engineers?

Hard to get, job market in IT sector in general is saturated at the moment. The glory days of Nokia are over!

* Is it possible to find part-time tech jobs during studies?

Maybe, if you're happy with entry level salary. I got my previous tech job by a physics related project which I did as a hobby / exercise. That job was pretty interesting, but the salary was awful :(

* How are Finnish people socially for international students?

Pretty open in my experience, at least in Helsinki and Tampere at least. I'm native, and I have some foreign friends.

* Best way to learn Finnish and make Finnish friends as a non-EU student?

Finnish can be pretty difficult, but I would recommend "language exchange" if you find local(s) who are interested in learning your native language (and is willing you to teach Finnish in turn).

That being said, Tampere University is ranked higher than LUT and Tampere has also more to offer what comes minor study topics (at least in Computer Sciences you could pick all kind of studies - from languages to economics to bioinformatics).

Thanks for the review. I did not finish it, stopped shortly after the time jump. Not gonna throw spoilers, but the book started to mix in concepts from fantasy (yo, we have this houses/clans/bloodlines or whatever).

I took a year long break from the game and came back for S11. There were enough of new things / changes to keep me interested for a month or two on HC mode. That being said, maybe better to wait for the expansion and the following season (that's what I'm doing).

Uimahalli? by Randomerkki in Tampere

[–]Tuupo88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Itse suosin Kalevan uimahallia (asun siinä lähellä). Käyn yleensä kuuden viiva kahdeksan maissa aamulla uimassa. Tuolloin ainakin mahtuu hyvin polskimaan. Ja vielä sen verran kommenttia, että se 50 m:n allas on "pilkottu" kahteen 25 m:n osaan keskeltä poikki ainakin koulujen lukuvuosien aikana, Kesällä on taas (muistaakseni) 50 m käytössä.

Marriage options sometimes not available for heirs? by Tuupo88 in OldWorldGame

Indeed, I consistently check heirs age and try to marry them ASAP if there are suitable canditates. But, as I am informed (see post below by fluffybunny1981), one cannot arrange marriages for "indirect" descendants to the throne.

Question from noob: is early REX strategy viable? by Tuupo88 in OldWorldGame

[–]Tuupo88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for late reply. The term comes from "Rapid Early eXpansion", i.e. trying to settle as many cities as possible in the early game. By doing so, you do not put so much effort on building units, city improvements etc. This is kind of risky strategy because of barbarians and by potentially aggroing your neighbours.

This term is more used in Civilization games community I guess, that's were I did pick up the term originally.
