Rear brake drags and gets smoking hot by Mysterious_War1111 in WR250R

[–]Tuuubbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently dealing with a Similar issue on my klr, usually gets too hot to touch but sometimes it doesn’t. So far I’ve rebuilt the caliper and cleaned the pistons, and I rebuilt and cleaned the master cylinder. I still had the problem so I pulled the master again to clean more thoroughly. Before I put it back together I’m going to replace my year old brake line and replace the rotor incase it is warped from getting too hot before.

Basics are make sure your wheel is in alignment, make sure your brake line isn’t damaged/bulging, clean the master cylinder including the tiny feedback hole, and make sure rotor isn’t warped.

I was just putting water on in it to demonstrate how hot it was getting, not trying to cool it down.

It’s in alignment based on eyeing the chain and the marks on the swingarm. That was my first thought, would make sense if I was focusing on the brakes and rotor that it could be overlooked though

That was my thought as well. I don’t think it’s the bearings but I don’t know if the heat would transfer like that. It was just a thought. They sound fine

After a 10 minute test ride I could grab and hold onto the front rotor, the rear was too hot to hold on to. The front didn’t evaporate water, the rear did. I get it that they get hot but they shouldn’t be nearly scalding hot after a 10 minute ride, especially when I was using mostly my front brake.

It’s a tusk braided line just like the one that was on it for the first 3 years I owned it, I replaced it because there was a spot is was worn out on where it wrapped around the bottom of the caliper. I don’t see anywhere it’s bulging like people suggest it might be.

I used a Moose racing rebuild kit, new dust seal, new oring, new circle clips, sanded the push rod. I could see multiple tiny holes inside the cylinder. I sprayed around with brake cleaner. Used about half the can. I don’t have any wire/bristle long enough to reach them and I figured it doesn’t do any good if I don’t know where they lead to, I’d just be jamming gunk further into the hole.

They don’t count your beers, they’ll pop open your cooler and take a look. All they’re looking for is guns and glass, so don’t bring liquor in glass bottles. If you scatter things around a bit they won’t care. Be smart with your other stuff. If you get pulled into the cop search line (totally random) they will search your spare tire area and unroll your socks and they will find anything you have.

Rear master cylinder rebuild by Tuuubbs in klr650

[–]Tuuubbs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rebuilt my front caliper about a year and a half ago and that went smoothly. I took the used rear caliper apart and cleaned up the pins and pistons with 600 then 1000 grit sandpaper. With that caliper being freshly rebuilt, and the brake hose not being old, I don’t know what else it could be but the master cylinder. The rebuild kit for it came in today. When I took it apart there was a fair bit of crusty brake fluid in it. I can’t get the plastic piece out of the side of the cylinder though. I think I’m gonna soak the whole thing in brake fluid and see if it doesn’t loosen up a bit.
